Totally agree with your assessment. I love the Sideshow version. Sometimes Hot Toys miss the mark in likenesses and considering they are so much more expensive than SS, I don’t think some of their products are worth the extra cost.
Hey mate thank you for watching. Yes I think you are bang in there. They doe some great work but sometimes they either miss it or don’t put in the same effort. It’s more evident I think as you can see they know how to put out some great work.
I put magnets on my Maul’s neck which extended his head. It makes it look better. I’ll definitely swap heads when I get the 2.0. Good timing with this video.
Agree with all points. I'll be keeping both. The SS version displays in the Theed Hangar battle appearance while the HT version is robed. If Hot Toys released a 2.0 with the Sideshow headsculpt accuracy and moveable eye feature I'd throw money at them.
Hey Rodney thanks for watching! It a bad idea, I do quite like Maul in his hooded appearance. Shame the sideshow version didn’t come with the robe. Yep same here I would definitely be all in for a 2.0 maul like that
I guess I’m going to keep the 1.0 Sideshow, 2.0 Sideshow, 1.0 Hot Toys and 2.0 Hot Toys Darth Maul figures. He’s my favorite character along with Batman. Was originally upset they aren’t offering an upgrade kit of some kind, but it is what it is.
That’s a lot of Maul! Any clone wars of Solo mauls in there? An upgrade kit would have been nice! But, and as much as I love HT, I think they knew most of us would pay up for a whole new figure lol
@@jimcollectorI don’t have the Solo or Clone Wars Maul. However, I am slightly interested in picking up the Solo Maul now at this point. I think the 1.0 Hot Toys could do with just a headswap. The figure is basically the same, outside of that. The 2.0 has better sabers and a better speeder and has removed the suit padding or heavily reduced it. The cloak might be worth getting as well, because the 1.0 cloak wasn’t good.
I don’t own either of these figures. I have the Clone Wars Maul. In my opinion the sculpt on the Sideshow Maul is much better along with the saturation of red. It looks much better at a distance. If you could mix the best of both of these figures, I think you’d have a perfect representation of Darth Maul from TPM.
Hi mate thanks for watching 🙌 and yes I agree, form a distance the sideshow definitely looks better to my eye, up close you can see that their quality isn’t quite as finely tuned. A mix would be ideal for a 2.0. Hopefully it will happen but im beginning to think it’s probably unlikely.
Great comparison video, totally agree that Sideshow did do a better sculpt, however, your assessment regarding the black tattoos on the face being more accurate on the Sideshow version is incorrect, the black lines should be thicker on the face tattoos more like the Hot Toys version.
Hey mate thank you for watching! I went back and had a look at film stills again and you are totally right, the sideshow markings are definitely too thin at a closer look.
