As a photographer and videographer, I personally like the Omen because of the fact that it provides the SD card slot and a more colour accurate display.
The displays are basically identical as far as color accuracy...the Omen is like 3% better at 74% vs 71% in adobe rgb but they both have 99% srgb. Thats not really big enough difference to be a deciding factor in which the to buy. But the legion pro does get 100 nits brighter.
I'm so glad gaming laptops have gone away from looking so dumb. Four years ago one of the hardest parts of finding a gaming laptop was finding one that didn't look like a child's toy. Generally, I don't care that much about what my laptop looks like. For instance I'd be ok with the look of just about any 2022 gaming laptop. I really hope RGB is the next thing to go. Doesn't really add anything of value except manufacturers get to charge a little extra for it.
I don't know much about the omen 16 but I personally have the omen 17 i7 with a nvidia rtx 3070 and it's a blast to use fast and efficient, plays AAA titles with the greatest of ease, and it's very easy to upgrade it to your specifications
I tried the Legion 5i Pro, but the heat on the metal keyboard deck was pretty bad, and the temps were sitting in the high 80s/low 90s for the CPU when gaming, even on balanced performance mode. I returned it and ended up getting a Legion 5 non-Pro with an AMD 6800h/3070Ti combination because it ran cooler and quieter than the 5i Pro. Unfortunately, as neat as a metal keyboard deck and metal bottom seems, they actually heat up more than plastic because plastic is an insulator, and metal is a conductor of heat. The AMD CPU is also more power efficient, and never seems to get much higher than 79-80 degrees most of the time when gaming on balanced performance mode.
@@mohammedomar1870 I haven't measured the max time the Legion 5 with Ryzen 6800H/3070 TI that I have gets, but I can tell you it's easily more than double the Intel 12700h/3070 Legion 5i Pro. Basically, if you want to be able to use your laptop in battery at all, the AMD 6800H is the way to go.
@@Moshe_Dayan44 i have some questions abt this laptop cause im thinking of purchasing it: 1-i heard from a review that while typing on the keyboard the screen wobles is it true? and is it annoying? 2-how is the display and screen colors 3-is it a solid laptop?like wolud you recommend it?🙂
@@Moshe_Dayan44 it seems like the idea legion for you might be the Legion 5 Pro with the 6800H/3070 TI, since you will get the best speed/cool temps/and metal build. I am currently looking at one refurbished one with 2yr warranty, and contsidering cancelling my Alienware M17 R5 with Ryzen 9 and 6850xt graphic. I know I will loose speed on both cpu and gpu, but seems like legion 5pro will offer better construction and screen at 500nits and higher res. What do you think?
Hi, Just a tip but I am sure you are aware - when testing the cameras - its best to always wear the same clothes with the same lighting - as in this example on the one test you are wearing a black shirt, in the next test you are wearing a red shirt... this obviously impacts the auto white balance of the camera - as with the first you will have a warmer tint, and the second because you are wearing red the camera will have bluer tint... Maybe always have the same lighting and wear the same (Black or Grey) Tshirt in order to correctly compare cameras.
I bought an Omen 15 recently for 1200€ (having it delivered in few days), also saw some Legions, but for me idk, I personally don't like the design and numpad of the Legion. And the extra thickness provided by the ports behind the display. Regarding screen wobble, my personal opinion is that you shouldn't get a laptop with more than 15.6 inch display, if you are looking for budget machines. Less screen, less wobble lol. Currently using my beaten up MSI Gf63 thin and that device was 900€ when I got it years ago xD. Omen gonna be a huge upgrade for me.
I respect your comment, but I like legion more becuase of its quality of pure and quality specs than omen as thier specs are same but I like legion more. DISCLAIMER NO HATE
@Ben - Some things missing from your comparison that I would love to see Mux Switch - I know that the Legion has one but its kind of wonky to switch on and off as using the software dims the brightness and turning on Dedicated graphics card and rebooting. But how about on the Omen? File Transfer - Being in the editing world I transfer tons of files and file transfer speed is important. Would be nice to see numbers from an external hard drive to internal hard drive and back again. Does one of the 2 laptops have a faster transfer speed? Thunderbolt Ports - I believe the Omen has 2? vs only 1 on the Legion? Power Supply - I know the Legion has a Brick and a half for a power supply, would be neat to see the one for the Omen. Also the Legion supports power delivery through one of the USB ports, does the Omen also support this? Memory Type & Upgradeability - I believe this model Legion you are stuck with 8gb of soldered memory so a total of 16gb in dual channel mode. How about the Omen? Great video though. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
I don't think this should warrant Buyer's remorse, unless your unit is defective. The comparison seemed almost a draw, with a slight nod toward Lenovo. (until the price difference is revealed.)
Omen is much cheaper, and I like the design more. Too bad it's plastic in the bottom. But im probably going for Omen just because of the design and price alone.
Great comparisons videos. As a side note, you don't even need to bend screens manually to check for screen wobbling. Right after you opened both laptops lids and released hand off lids - you can see Lenovo stopped much sooner than hp. It is more natural test than manual bending as it removes human factor. You could just do it couple times and bring to attention of viewers explicitly Also HP lid wobbles much more than Lenovo - every time after you move it around table.
Atlast some one reviewing rtx 3060. Every reviewer prefers the high end version. but in reality people who buy the low-medium spec products only end up watching the reviews. thanks a ton.🙏
At this price, the 3070Ti with the 8 GB VRAM is a lot better than the 3060. I am actually surprised people still buy the 3050Ti version crippled with 4 GB VRAM
The Lenovo link does lead to a 5i Pro, but not the one you reviewed. The one I'm seeing from the site only has the RTX 3050 and not the RTX 3060. They must have just made some kind of change because your review hasn't been out that long at all. I actually can't seem to find the model you reviewed anywhere, but maybe I'm missing it.
They’re probably out of stock or something or sometimes it gives you the option to “build your own” and you can choose the specs. I just got the 2022 5i pro with a RTX 3070ti
Hi, very nice review indeed. Even though I have to say that I've just bought an Omen 16 and there's no wobbling in the screen as in the model you review in the video. Maybe they have improved that.
What a relief to read this! He´s not the first youtuber to mention these wobbling on the screen, but I'm guessing it's a minor or irrelevant thing. All the laptops I've come across always have a small defect, but then again, who am I to talk? I'm trading a Huawei matebook 14d for this Omen 16 and I bet I'll love it!
Hi, can you kindly do a review of the 2022 Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 with the WUXGA config, RTX3060 versus the G14? I would also like to know if the FHD panel is also color accurate 😅 GREATLY APPRECIATED!
As someone who bought the omen i personally would get the omen 16 over any lenovo products as its not worth $700 mark up for the name, aesthetics, some extra aluminum and just a 5 fps difference.
@@minseokwon6484 yeah the battery is lacking but it hardly gets use unplugged because I always need high performance. I just needed the portability for traveling reasons not because I want to have it on my lap unplugged.
Lenovo legions go on super sale all the time. I just saved 600 on my Lenovo legion 5i pro 3070 2021. Got that bad boy for 1500 before taxes. Would much rather have gotten that than the hp omen equivalent which was on sale for 1500 at Best Buy but lacking the brighter better resolution screen that legion pro has. Legion gang 4 life son!
Great comparison. It will be useful for many buyers to choose between the two, both offer great value for money, personally i like Legion due to its build and aesthetics and almost everything........ Screen wobble on hp laptops is usually horrible
HP laptops always have a problem with wobbly screen and trust me this starts causing problems after a year or two. I used HP laptop and there were so many problems due to it's weak body. Laptop body broke after opening and closing it. Go for something solid.
i have an older hp laptop from 2017 never faced an issue with wobbling also it still works and now i have an hp victus 15 and the screen wobble is little and pretty much all like other brands so ig it depends on the usage too
Sir there so difference in frame drops where hp drops less and Legion drops more. I think you should check Legion again after updating everything including premier pro to latest version. Legion has been checked before hp so premier pro released new updates. Legion must perform better than hp any day. Again i have watched your Legion 5i pro 2022 creator review i have seen same red frame drops as this. Must recheck please sir
@@mariuspuiu9555 for what though? I never touch my macbook trackpads or my LG gram trackpad other than scrolling on the timeline, I honestly have no clue how useful that is lol
Hey , I'm from India I like your hp930 wireless mouse video ,i like that video ,how you made that I want to know and make some videos same as yours with your help!
5:45 "random grouping of extra keys" - that's actually a standard layout of a tenkeyless keyboard. It's a big plus for Omen, it's a shame you presented it that way.
I am a student from Odisha, India...Going to purchase HP Omen 16, Based on performance, its neck to neck but what differentiates my decision is the ""DIWALI" offer that HP gives over any other brand here in India. Its insane how at RS.1,34,500(1631$) at an offline retailer, HP gives you 2 year extended warranty, HyperX accessories, Omen Bag pack and 3 years of Antivirus for absolutely free that too preinstalled MS OFFICE 2021. Whereas Lenovo Legion 5i Pro goes to a price of 1,53,000($1863) for just the laptop. Went for too much research to select my top three laptops as Acer Predator Helios 300, HP Omen 16 and Lenovo Legion 5ipro.....and this video is that final stamp before confirming the purchase which basically clears my doubt of performance issues of HP Omen over its competitors.
legion 5i pro given max tgp 140watt for 3060 whereas omen gives 115 watt. hp has done many cost cuttings as well, like with micron ssd. legion uses samsung pro. I have a hp laptop, and it has a lot of quality issues. Legion series is also known for its build quality and performance. The lower tgp allows hp to use a cheaper cooling system. I am also looking to buy one, but can't decide between omen's low cost and legion's better quality... there aren't many video comparisons for rtx 3070ti 115watt (omen) vs rtx3070 150 watt (legion). Do you know any other information that led you to select hp over lenovo?
@@SantoshSatvikL I mean been using since 3 days. I am a beginner level 3D Artist and Graphic Designer and lemme tell you first Legion is way overpriced than HP Omen but comparing nearest two options would be Acer PREDATOR HELIOS 300 and HP Omen 16 , Gotta tell those little cross cuttings here and there feel nothing significant in extensive usage. It's just a 19.5-20 difference. Ofc 144HZ screen is a drop but me who was using a 60HZ screen before , for me it's heaven.... The cooling is absolutely beastly. I mean any of the option you go for , whether it's ASUS TUF F15 or HP OMEN 16 or Acer PREDATOR HELIOS 300 or Lenovo Legion 5i or 5i Pro.....It's all same if it has same Intel processor coz a 5-10 W difference in TDP of Processor doesn't make a lot of difference. Ofc any laptop at this price would give far far far higher performance than 70-80 K RS ones....
@@SantoshSatvikL Yep I mean I was watching some bench mark videos it's almost same hardly a FPS drop of 7-13 FPS doesn't bother much when already the FPS is too high
I would like to draw attention to the fact that the products of the hp brand do not always come out of the factory with the same quality. Even a product you buy for 3000$ can come with IPS glow and bleeding. But lenovo products always leave the factory with a certain quality.
ben mah man - i5 12500 & RTX 3050 with 16 gigs of ddr5 ram, also gen4 ssd, if that matters, is this adequate for medium quality settings 1080p gameplay, say for the next 3-4 years?
In this comparison legion is clearly winner. But bro make comparison on legion 5i pro 2022 vs Dell g15 special edition 2022. I think this will be tough for legion 😂
Now on micro center its available hp omen 17 3070ti i7 12700 32ram Ddr5 2tb ssd for 1899 and legión 5 pro same specs just 1tb ssd for 1799 wich one should i buy please Help guys im in a hurry to get a laptop because i will be traveling in the next days
@@kainatil i bought the legion 5, I have it for 1 week, then I returned to Microcenter and bought a 3080 Rtx with a i5 so I end up building a desktop pc to take it to my country. The legion was not bad at all but I was not happy with the performance, temperature and res so I prefer going for a desktop pc.
Are you sure you are using the 12 gen intel version 2022 hp Omen, 'cause this new model is supposed to have vents on both sides (& the back) and ports on the back. Check and be sure. That was the improvement in the thermal solution that Hp introduced in the new models that were released this summer 2022
While you've stated the Omen 16 has 8:5 screen, if I heard correctly, I think you might have been wrong about it - the SKUs I've seen in the wild seem to come with the "regular" 16:9 1440p compared to 8:5 1600p of the Lenovo...
I had nothing but bad experiences with HP. My first laptop from HP was the Dr Dre HP envy. Came to me with problems right off the bat. Then customer service was horrible. So yeah I would buy a Lenovo over a HP.
in general the legion is in a higher class of laptops. a better comparison would be using the Zephyrus models from Asus (the premium step up from the Strix models). performance wise, they should be similar if the specs are similar.
