I'm so so thankful I found this channel bcs I'll start my m.arch this october. I've been considering to buy an ipad too (and ofc the pencil) since I want to save all my sketches in cloud instead of paper
You forgot to mention the Lidar issue, which currently in view of measuring and creating floor plans and point clouds can be a more than valuable aid for designers.
I'm a full time site architect and I always take note even standing taking pictures as well. I'm stuck between Ipad Mini and Ipad Air. 1. Reviewing for Licensure Exam 2. Read PDFs for work 3. Take note for Work 4. Drawings in PDF 5. Sketching floor plans 6. Sending Emails 7. Take pictures and edit them during site visit 8. For vlogging 9. For watching movies and netflix 10. For casual to heavy browsing Can't thank you enough if you can help me.
@@HenryGao thank you Henry for your reply. I was wondering what bag you use when taking your iPad and other items into the field for site visit or site measurements? I am nervous taking my iPad in fear of damage. Thank you
@@bmacias8288 Same concern! I use this from ESR amzn.to/3KxqOmw with a regular screen protector. No hardcover. I found this to be the easiest way to take out of the bag to take notes and review drawings.
specially im a student im using my ipad for my web research and finding an imformation sbout topics and history and other subject in my homeschooling and also im using this for multitasking while watching tutorials and also im using this for math exam and also for reading is really great
im using my ipad for studying reading and editing videos and also playing a game when i got board and making some sketches on my ipad and drawing things i could emagine and also its very long battery life it last without an hour
and this tablet very great value and solid device because since i had my old ipad then now his ipad is worth upgrade for me because i never got an experience on new ipad only this year but im happy and im really satisfied with this purchase this tablet is great for what i need and also you can now take a note without choosing a color and using eraser/ruler that has already complete all things and its really convinient to use than any laptop well infact this tablet was lack 60fps so i dont have to worried to play the games or watch the video all day because its super smooth and when it comes on browsing its just really fast even the other few apps that i'ved been use you will never noticing some any frame drops or laggy its just fast with a12 bionic and im really greatful and happy with it this tablet complete everything i need
one note on pencil charging with old version ipads: there's adapter that came along (at least with ipad pro version, but this is really just piece of plastic, and even apple probably charge for this too much, lol), which allows you to charge from main ac charger. i rarely charge pencil from ipad itself. if you're on budget, and need ipad realy for sketching etc, jus get second hand older 12.9 version, still runs everything without any problem (i just try 3d sketching with new updated procreate app etc).
Excellent point, I had the 1st generation iPad for many years and since upgrading there really isn’t that much of difference when it comes to drawing in Procreate.
Thank you so much for this video. My daughter has shown interest in the field and asked for the iPad. Would a 7th or 8th gen with 128 gig storage be enough?
@@HenryGao beginning her dive into what she thinks her carrier will be, an Architect. Actually found a good deal on a Ipad 9th gen. She might need more later, but this should get her started
I have 128gb on my iPad Pro 12.9" and is only half full. So I don't think you need more than 256gb. But that's just how I use it - exclusively for business.
@@balathbo8541depends on how you use it. If you are always traveling and going on site visit. I’d say Cellular. Now there’s 5G, it’s even better for when there’s isn’t any WiFi.
I'm so glad I found your channel! Really impressed by your presentation style and aesthetics of your videos! I have a question here. 😊If I already have a windows laptop as my main computer, which one would you recommend between macbook air m1 and ipad pro m1 12.9?(as an architecture student)
Hi Oliver, good question! If you are already using your PC as the main latop, then maybe consider iPad for its illustration ability, especially if that’s an aspect of representation you want to use for architecture school.
I recently discovered your channel searching for ipad and I am very glad. I am so confused. I have never used an ipad and just got Air 5 64gb to get into sketching on ipad. I found out there is a pro version and that cost a lot here in my country. I havent opened the box. Should I return it and save more money to get pro version? I am so comfused :(
I feel kind of silly. I am currently using a Surface Pro as my primary laptop and I can connect it to my extra monitors. I am truly using it as a laptop but I also want to get an iPad for Architecture school and my other classes in general. I like the idea of having an iPad for notes and sketching, but I worry about certain programs being preferable for my Surface Pro and that I should have just gotten a pen for it but I like having something for notes, something to look at. Please help. I know that I can do some programs on the iPad (mainly sketching) and others on my Surface Pro like CAD.
Having an iPad certainly will not replace your PC. It’s a nice to have in school but not a necessity unless you plan to use it for architectural drawing with procreate or morpholio trace.
what kind of screen protector do you have? There are some are good ones for sketching and others are good for viewing movies. What USB connection do you use to transport your sketches from your desktop pc to your ipad pro
Dear Henry, I know paperlike screen protector is great for sketching but how about watching media? Or renderings? Do you find the matt finish a little dull?
@@user-xc4eh4kp9n I believe any matt screen protector you apply on the iPad will drastically reduce the quality. That is the sacrifice you have to make in order to have a nicer drawing experience. For me, it is well worth it than drawing directly on "glass". Hope this helps.
Hey , love the vid . I ordered a iPad Pro 11 inch with the Apple Pencil . Everyone is saying to return the iPad Pro , and instead getting the iPad Air . Thoughts . ?
Thanks a lot!, Your Video is really Helpful! I'm studying interiors & planning to get the pro soon 🤩 However, I would like to know Is the Applecare+ necessary to buy with? Have you experienced any bending issue ? Also which screen protector would you recommend? 🥺
I have never bought Apple Care, but if you are clumsy maybe consider. Try Paperlike for screen protector! Definitely get one, it makes drawing a whole lot better.
I’m about to start school for interior design in the fall, does anyone have a preference between the pro and the air 4 ? I genuinely am confused as to which Would be more beneficial when doing design projects and taking notes etc. 😅
Hi Angie, get the 12.9 if you think you will be drawing a lot on it. Otherwise I don’t think you will notice that much of a difference performance wise.
Hey Angie, as an interior design graduate I know that most professors have preference for paper and pencil for ideation sketches as well as anything related to the preliminary design phase. They do this to make sure you’re comfortable sketching ideation for clients. I went through 4 years of schooling without an iPad and would recommend that you spend money on a good pc or windows based laptop for the software that are capable of doing high renders.
@@elainechow139 yeah it’s so much better getting the iPad Air which performs the same as the Pro model and it’s much cheaper than the Pro. You can also get a decent laptop that could handle rendering well but if y’all have the money, then why not get both the iPad Pro M1 12.9 inch along with the high end pc/laptop.
@HenryGao Hi. Brother. I am just completed my architecture degree and started practicing... I'm not great with sketching and all.. Iam constantly following you around 1 yr. You r an inspiration. Now iam planning to buy an ipad for my architectural sketching and also some video editing works.. But I'm totaly confused with ipad 9th gen or ipad air 5(obviously budjet)...i pad air base varient has only 64gb of storage whereas ipad 9 256 almost close to ipad ais 5s price range. And it only supports 1st gen pencil. Can you give me a senssible suggession. Thankyou.
I’ve got an iPad with the first gen of Apple Pencil. I’ve been thinking about replace it with an iPad Pro because the display size of iPad Pro is similar with A4 paper and. Other than sketching, I sometime do some reading and that’s why I am looking for a model that suit A4 paper. Other than an iPad, I got a MacBook Pro for video editing, model building and so on. Should I replace my iPad with an iPad Pro? Or is iPad Air just fine?
iPad Air is plenty power, so you are really upgrading for more screen real estate. Because I draw ALOT, pro is better than air. Try spending sometime drawing and then reevaluate.
Also it would be nice if you can break down the iPad variations a bit more for not so tech savvy people like me 😆. I took so much time just reading to understand all the technical specs as to which iPad is better…like 12.9 inch also has so many generations out I’m being told 🙄
And what about samsung tab s8 for an architect, bc i have a laptop with windows and i was thinking that maybe I could also use this tablet as a another monitor
Hi Henry and everyone , am still confused to choose the size of iPad pro. Just need opinion, which size are more suitable for architecture purpose ? Perhaps anyone can help me on this.
@@HenryGao yes i like your explanation on the video. I target to get Ipad Pro for me do all architect stuff but still confused to choose 11’ or 12.9’ ?
@@HenryGao Thank you for your reply. It's going to be my first ipad, but I'm on a budget so I'm very grateful that someone with experience like you gives me an advice. 🥰
All we wanted was MactouchOS to iPad Pro not an accessory to MacBook with universal control, tablets is the future not laptops. We good if you got iPad Pro 2018 because M1 Pro superman with kryptonite belt.,
That depends. I got the 256 in case. You can always plug in an external SSD or memory card. I don't think I am every going to run out 256 for my needs.
*I'm an incoming architecture student next year, sir. Just want to know if an iPad Pro M1 12.9 can replace a gaming laptop for Autocad, or any apps that are need to use in architectural school?* 😅
Short answer is NO. iPad will not replaced your needs for an actual computer. You will need a real computer for architecture school. If you are into digital drawing, then consider buying an iPad to supplement your studies. Good luck in school!
Ramesh - you are witty enough to point this out. I guess this is my long way of suggesting my audience to make that decision themselves. Sorry it baited you in to watching the entire video. Best,
@@HenryGao Bro, Please dont use words "sorry". Your video was good 👍 👌 , but only thing is i didnt get it after watching full video. Actually i am new to ipad and i purchased a new Ipad pro M1. I am searcing for how to use AR in ipad as i have purchased a new house and wanted things to be setup in my new house. Unfortunately, i didnt find a single video in YT which says clearly how to use it in ipad pro for beginners. Feels very frustrating and hence my comment in frustration. Apologises if you felt bad . I was actually frustrated searching for AR in RU-vid since morning.
@@RameshKumar-ng3nf Thanks for the explanation, I don’t feel so bad now. I don’t think the the AR technology for architecture is that mature yet, maybe someone else will do a comprehensive video on that someday…could be you!
@@HenryGao Thanks a lot bro for your reply and details. Happy to see you very friendly 😊. As i am a beginner , still learning ipad , have subscribed your channel for if any ipad videos in future. Right now i am enjoying my new ipad pro M1, its feels nice fun to work with Ipad compared to a laptop😊. Have a good day !
