Omg for the last week or 2 I’ve been thinking about going into HR and getting the BA for it but it’s a big financial obligation. The certification in 6 months sounds right up my alley. Then if I find I really love HR I can get the degree later. Thank you so much. This made my decision and my life so much easier 😊

I learned this the hard way! I signed up for a master’s degree in HR management- big mistake! 😮 the courses went deeper than HR. Lots of economics, financial analysis, etc etc… it’s best to wait until you get in HR first. Get your certifications first, way cheaper….Some jobs still pay really good! I have a bachelor’s already as well in humanities . I’m going for my certification and dropped the degree!! 😮

Very helpful and informative! Thanks for breaking down the differences. I too am at a crossroads between getting my SHRM certification or Masters. I’m already PHR certified but would like to add another notch to my professional development “belt”.

You’re welcome! Thank you for watching! If you’re already certified, there isn’t a need to get another certification unless you’re going to see an immediate ROI. What type of work do you do in HR? What work do you aspire to do?

i just want to thank you for the time that you’ve put into this. I was literally sitting here tonight, tired of being passed over and frustrated with my career path. I know God led me here. I want a degree, but i’m going to go for this certification first. I would love to pick your brain more in regards to it. i have 2 or 3 more questions in regards to the certification path. Again, thank you so much for this breakdown!!!

Is your company paying for it or reimbursing you? If not, you should ask them before taking it. Start with SHRM and HRCI's website to decide which you qualify for then apply to sit for the exam.

Great advice!.. I am getting my BA because a lot of jobs in the job description either require or prefer BA. I haven’t come across many jobs that say certification in the job description.
@HeyyyHR
@HeyyyHR 11 месяцев назад
You normally don't see certification until you apply to higher level roles like Manager, Director or VP. I would research which BA programs I wanted to start that position that as professional development for the company and look for companies with tuition or education reimbursement. Let the company pay for those degrees and certs!

I will be graduating from a community with an associate's degree in HR ( December 2021), and I am transitioning careers from a supervisory (15+ years) position to HR. Do you think it would be beneficial to take the aPHR certification and continue with a bachelor's degree?

@@HeyyyHR Yes… but depending on the market, it may be difficult to get an HR position. Many ppl end up getting a degree or certification after working in HR for a company and getting stuck at the same level because they don’t have a degree. In Chicago without a degree you’re gonna have to have 3-5+ yrs experience to be considered for $45k… they won’t even consider paying a non degreed person more than $40k unless there’s tons of experience. I have a degree in HR and I am scheduled for the certification.

Hello, I am living in Europe and things are a bit different with HR here, there isn't this giant requirement for a university degree as long as you can do the work- there are like tests at the job interviews to asses your skills etc... I was wondering, would it be better to do only certifications? since they are more up to date? I did start Uni back in 2015 but decided to quit because it is TOO long for information I can learn with google to be fair. Thank you for reading

Hey Timeka! I just found your channel today, and I'm lovin it. I want to become a worker in Hr one day but is it normal for someone to get a degree and a certification at the same time? Also I heard the the Hr field is female dominated. Would it be harder for me to get a job in this field for being a man?
