I'm having FUN while playing Live but still at the edge of my seat, the crowd draws you into the game. It's full immersion while on the floor for me.
I chose Live because 2k don't play any defense & 2k is too scared to let the defender touching them without calling a foul. But with Live you can get in there face without calling fouls like in real life & 2k slacking in the area but 2k fans don't play defense anyway.
Why are you complaining about bump teals? Pretty sure if NBA players dribbled the ball to the point where it hits the defenders body it will have a high chance of being stolen. Don't want a bump steal? Don't run into defenders. Just like in real life. You don't really see NBA players bump into the defenders. Simple as that.
kysheem burns I'm not though? I like to dribble sure. But I'm more of a team and pass first player. I can't be a dribble God if I'm constantly giving the ball away to my teammates. And there are bump steals in the NBA. I've seen it happen plenty of times. I literally watch pretty much every game of every team throughout the whole season.
yoshatabi I am also a pass first player. I pass as soon as I get double teamed. But when you drive defender run into you on purpose I know that because that’s how I play. Not all builds have to struggle with that

my opinion on what NBA Live needs to really compete with 2k are all signature animations, bring all star weekend back, add the hype man that does the real life Pro-Am games to the to the Pro-Am, street,and court battle games, add stuff to the commentary throughout the year like madden does, and gameplay wise i think live feels a bit off to some people because sometimes it feels like the players feet move faster than their bodies, and when they jump it doesn't feel natural almost like they body gets fast on the way up i don't really kno how to explain it, but its still fun though
NBA Live 19 has improved a lot over last year's game. I'm definitely getting it. I also like NBA 2K19. As you mentioned the gameplay is more fluid and I like the simulation of it all. The story in MyPlayer definitely seems good. But this year I'm going with NBA Live. It's more fun for me to play. I don't have to be concerned with buying VC and I like the fact the WNBA is added and you can create a female baller and dunk on people's heads lol. Overall 2K is still king but if NBA Live stays on this path and just improve in the next couple years....2K will have problems lol.

Which means as they improve they can be legitimate competition in the basketball game market. No longer will 2K be the only candy store in town. If they continue to improve in the direction they are going.
I’ve played both and have a few hours of gameplay on each. With that being said, NBA Live passes the initial eye test over 2K in the graphics department. Once you get past the initial graphics 2K is better gameplay, but honestly not by much. Both are animation heavy and are both kinda derpy. I’m hoping that 2K20 and NBA Live 20 both figure out how to run the game without so much emphasis on animation based gameplay.
Played both 2K19 and Live 19 Demo's and i feel that at least for me Live feels better gameplay and physics wise, its fun. Dont know why but 2K series started declining for me since 2K16 Its good to have 2 games because not everyone has the same taste. Same goes for Pes and Fifa
@1389 Gaming ... Would you be able to elaborate on why you think Live is better represented in the physics department? There are things Live does way better than 2k, but when it comes to physics, they fall well short. The vertical animations such as jumps/blocks/dunks does not respect the physics of a free falling object. The upward acceleration/deceleration/ velocity of their jumps doesn’t respect physics. The downard landing phase also doesn’t match up to real world physics. Some of pass speed are ultrafast. As stated there are things that’s very solid with Live but physics isn’t one of their strong suits yet.
Maybe thats why, physics are fun, they dont have to try and chase realism and fail at it. Its a game its supposed to be fun. Same reason i moved away from Fifa, tries to be simulation too much.

Can’t really judge this game by the demo. Here’s what to do guys: grab an EA access account. It’s 4.99 a month. Just pay for one month, you’ll have FULL access to the FULL GAME for 10 hours. I played it and it is GREAT. This LIVE reminds me of years past NBA LIVE. I’ve already made my decision. 2K has been scamming us with this VC nonsense for years. A little known fact for you for 2K19. Even if you purchase the 20th anniversary edition which gives you 100k VC you will STILL need an ADDITIONAL 100K VC just to get your player to 85. That is a scam. Whereas in nba live. EVERY PLAYER works on their game to upgrade. There’s no buying ANYTHING. Your in game currency is ONLY for clothes, accessories and players for your squad. That is it! Live gives you COMPLETE control of your dribble moves. If you see curry leaning right you can cross to the left then it a spin move to a euro all SEAMLESS. Do what YOU want to do with the ball instead of 2K throwing you into an animation. You CONTROL everything in LIVE. If you make a mistake and they score it’s cuz YOU made the mistake. In 2K, how many times have you said “damnn 2k” “it was 2k” “felt like 2k wanted me to lose that game”. Come on guys. I’ve played 2k since it was called espn basketball. Don’t talk gameplay until you try the full game. Trust me it does have a learning curve because it’s NOT 2K with all the assistance the gameplay gives you. This game is TOTAL CONTROL. Not animated like 2K is which is why gameplay seams flawless to you.
100% agree and I like Live a lot, but you are focusing on 1 game mode only. My League is light years ahead of anything Live is currently offering. Overall 2K is still the game to beat and the best overall package. But it's nice to see Live back in shape
@@Mbolf24 they made contested dunks and layups much harder this year, but please don't be too close minded, it does have a lot of control, like if you move your left stick too much on defense, your ankles are broken but if you don't react you won't be broken, but you can get burned. Last year I got NBA2k18 and I loved it especially My career. I got the demo for NBA2k19 and NBA Live 19. As I was playing Live I was thinking that this game was hard. I then got the game and I actually like it more than 2k. I would definitely recommend Live instead of 2k this year only. Live gives you more if a real feel this year. 10/10 (BTW nice vid)

2K gameplay wise is better. But I'm going for Live this year for a couple reasons. EA servers are better and microtransactions aren't out of control. Those are my two main things about 2K I hate. I'll go with 2K all day if the VC never existed.
2K 19 gameplay has always been a step ahead but honestly the characters look like they slide into position more as if they have no weight I’m going with live because it just looks and feels more crisp and the lighting is amazing...This is what Madden 19 needs another competitor in the marketplace! Live is pushing 2K and vise-versa...
One area where NBA Live 19 is superior to NBA 2k19 is the realistic area sounds. If 2K would incorporate more of that it would be a near perfect basketball game.
Also arena lighting, and skin colors NBA Live on broadcast damn near looks like I'm watching ESPN is just when you zoom on players its not as accurate, whereas in 2k from broadcast it looks good but looks a little over satuarated and made up, but when you zoom in it looks almost as real and close to life.
I noticed in 2k19, the players dont have any reflection/light shading on them. They simply look like colorful characters. It almost looks cartoonish. Only the players i mean. Live 19, looks fantastic. Iv played 2k19 to the point of boredom. Have live 19 ready to go but just have lost interest in basketball at this time but live 19 is up next.
I have to say Live due to the fact they are not trying to take all my money or use the predatory micro transactions called VC. Plus Live has a honor system that allowed me to purchase the game for $35 dollars if preordered and the loyalty system. I’ll play Live another year and know they are dedicated to making a better game. Let’s look at it this way, the fact that we are comparing to two games is a win for Live already. One can say they are no longer on the outside looking in they are now in the room.
Great comparison/review as you don't come out as a fan boy of either and it seems very accurate how you compare them. As much as I wanted to go with Live this year and skip 2K due to their VC - playing both as you (and I did the EA access full Live game) - I just can't see myself putting in as many hours in live as I would 2K. It's mainly as you pointed out the animations in live are to similar to each other so players don't feel that different. I can see myself buying Live 19 when price drops a little as I must say I love the MyCourt battles and all they did with the online "Tour" around the world + plus their online servers are less laggy and you don't have to wait 5min for "Got Next" as you're just taken in to a lobby.
I want to go back to live this year, that hiatus killed their position in the debate but if they improve on animations it’ll be back on top again. And no one still wants to buy vc
2K has been in this bizarre era for the last four or five games. 2K is more of a fashion show than a basketball game. They've spent more time incorporating a neighborhood into the game than revamping core gameplay. There's no defense and all offense. It's all about looking pretty, spamming screens/dribbles, and shooting 3's.
I hate that nba 2k story mode is connected to the servers. Once 2k takes down the server for that year. Story mode goes away. Story mode should be a offline feature too!!!
The one thing that EA had to do to edge over 2K is add in the All Star break. I'm sticking with Live because the gameplay and updates are only going to improve with Live plus I was able to pre-order it for $35 with ZERO worry about having to spend more money on VC just to make my player better. One thing that you did not touch on is player architypes which is where Live definitely had the edge because you can actually change them in between games.
I respect your observations and comparisons on both games. Thank you for the content. But I honestly believe it's not necessary for all of us to continue to compare the games every year. I feel like these are two games who struggle in one area and excel in another you know.. Why do we feel so obligated to pit the 2 against each other? As you've made it clear there are some things you enjoy about 2K and some things you enjoy about live. They aren't the same game and they don't strive to be. Yes they both strive to provide the best NBA experience but we don't have to be tore between deciding who is better. If you're seeking a more competitive and skill based game then roll with 2K. If you seek more arcade,excellent presentation and fun for people who are experienced and inexperienced then run with Live. I get both each year, you feel me?
Great review, honest, unbiased, and straight down the middle. Live did improve on many aspects but as far as an overall product, 2K definitely has the upper hand
only issue with 2k19 is pay to win....190k vc to upgrade player to 85...so i can spend 60$ on live 19 and be good from day 1...or i can spend 90$ on 2k19 and buy game and 30$ worth of vc....hate that!!!

Just decided to give NBA Live a chance this year and I’m glad I did. This game has so much going for it that by next year live 20 will dominate the 2k franchise. I love the one story mode. No long drawn out cutscenes you can’t skip with a corny ass story line like we’ve seen in the last few 2k games. Another plus is NO VC!!!!! when they decided in the last 2k to charge vc for a damn haircut I was done lol. The neighborhood was a cool concept in 2k18 but the actual street ball courts were bland and dull looking where as the new Live 19 has bright vibrant courts from all over the world. And with EA implementation of REAL PLAYER MOTION the game feels more fluid and smooth and looks fantastic. Live 19 is more of a basketball game from what it looks than 2k that looks like roblox with all the neighborhood bs that has nothing to do with basketball....2k19 looks exactly like 2k18.

nba 2k feels like the cpu decides the outcome of games and not like you are really controlling it, it feels scripted a lot of times, not sure why, that is why I will pick live this year.

Overall NBA live has the better more fun gameplay. The NBA that we watch is supposed to be fun not boring. 2k sucks ass and is extremely boring and because live had fell off for a minute and then stopped creating games people were forced to play 2k. 2k is the same warped forced unrealistic game since 2k16. Playing NBA live 19 will have you jumping out of your sit playing against others it is a great game and it's already preordered. Another thing is EA actually listens and has improved every single year in all aspects. I can bet by next year Live will take over once again. 2k is money hungry and majority of the gameplay involves soap opera stories and not the actual boring gameplay

My Problems With NBA Live 19 (First NBA Live) 1. People making Contested shots in my face. 2. People making HEAVY CONTEST Layups. 3. People missing wide open layups. 4. Impossible to move if someone is spamming steal on you. 5. TOO MANY STEALS!!! I get stripped too many times. 6. Lack of Archetypes. 7. Lack of blocks and shot contest even if your a defender. 8. 2K19 easy, 2K19 dribbling, gameplay, and player movement is way better. Live 19 isn't bad but the player movement is slow and stiff, and it's more of a arcade game with all the highlight plays, every score is a dunk or fancy layup. I already pre order Live because it was only $35 but I'm not going to play it much.

I'd say NBA LIVE 19 is better because The One career mode is better than Career Mode in 2K. You do not have to spend money to upgrade your player in NBA LIVE. Literally in NBA LIVE 19, I already have a 94 overall with a ring (won championship in playoff) and I have all 3 gold traits, which is pretty much like purple HOFs on 2K. There is also "icons". You can choose what extra upgrades you want for your player to boost your performance. I chose the 'Chef' icon (Stephen Curry ), and I already maxed that out (using no money), or I could even use the sniper icon (Ray Allen) which I might level up in the future.
Nba live 19 is just too easy some of the layups you can make and shots you can make is just ridiculous. I mean their is no skill gap. The game looks good but it feels like nba live 18.5 in my opinion
So the Layup meter is actually a good thing and this is why. There was one in 2k18 as well, it was just invisible for no real reason. You had to time it by looking at your player and it can cause you to miss stupid layups that your player wouldnt have. It took me a while before I realized it existed, because I used to play with vibration off. And then I played at my friends house, and thats when i realized.
I think it was Mike Wayne that left Live,,, and when he did Live never recovered until now, For the pass 3years Live has been comment alone. And now they finally have a product where I hope they build off of this one ( NBA Live19 ),,,, and hope they don't let this one go to waste like they did NBA Live... The one with Dwight Howard, on the front cover when he was playing for Orlando Magic, that was by far the best one they ever made, and should have build off of it.

live has more basketball content, live gameplay is way more realistic then 2k and the fluid-ness in live is based on your stick skills just like in 2k. issue with 2k the ball speed, movement speed the creating space for your self is extremely fake. the defense is fake getting your ankles took by animation spamming is fake. but if you like that then fine. but gameplay is better in live, i'll give animation quality when it comes to lays up, hook shots,fade aways, post moves and floaters 2k wins on quality. 2k content isn't playing basketball it's silly running around,jump on trampolines, riding bicycles,playing dodge ball, lifting weights, buy candy bars that's not BASKETBALL content to me. 2k forcing me to run to courts wait for next, while feeling robbed with that unfair rep system. in live if you see a icon in live run it's because they play live run and has a lot of live run experience which means they have some skill. you see a 99 in 2k it's like are they park grind or career mode? you don't really know. you saying animation feel the same in live lets me know you don't have experience with live and your advice to another person shouldn't be considered. compare level 2 kyrie vs curries vs iverson vs harden they are completely different. In live you see that kyrie through the legs is easier to pull off, but curry behind the back has more momentum, while iverson hesitation has more of a driving effect which throws players off, while harden has better spacing creating step backs and you can't just choose the most effective one which gives that pros and cons feel giving the player a handicap which to me is fire. Even with that said the style of going through the legs,behind the back,hesitation are different from each other. I think you might feel that way because kemba style is similar to curry when it comes to their right stick throw the leg move. As far as 2k they might have more but that doesn't matter because 2k players only use the most strongest animations so having thousands don't mean nothing.
Yea I've NOTICED that in 2k mannnnn you'll do all types of crazy moves with 2 flicks of the sticks in my opinion it doesn't take much stick still but one thing your forgetting some of theses guys are LAZY GAMERS but playing live it's to hard for them so they call it stiff
I been a fan of 2K for a while , never really played any live games but I was mad disappointed with the 2k18- 2k19... it's the same game little bit extras , played NBa live and I'll never buy a 2K game again , nothing but the same shit every year
I'm going with live strictly off the strength that i have more fun playing live. All the new additions to the neighborhood this year scream one word to me... LAG!!! And knowing 2k its safe to say they did absolutely nothing about it. Theres been countless times over the years where games would freeze while loading, waiting for player, error messages and thats not even the half. Theres no solid way to grind multiplayer when you're constantly lagging, friends are lagging or worse getting kicked. And to take a stepfurther you cant even queue up or matchmake into a park game. You have to stand there like a dumbass waiting for what seems like a millennium JUST TO PLAY ONE GAME. Every other game known to man has a lobby style of matchmaking why is it still missing from 2k??? 2k robbed the entire community of a good basketball game last year with all those microtransactions and corperate Ads. And Fortnite came through like a shit storm to clean up the dollars... I wont be fooled this year. They didnt add any of the things we've been asking for but find a way to add dodgeball and skateboard tricks. All that shit is for the casuals. I WANT TO PLAY BALL, and More importantly i want to have fun while doing it. Live is exactly that...
I haven't bought an NBA game in about 5 years, but from playing the demos and reading about each game I'm going with 2K. Lots of the same reason given in the video, plus the myGM mode from 2K sounds absolutely amazing. Live is fun, thought The One mode was great, but didn't like the feel of the game outside of that (physics to keep you in bounds, commentary was boring). Can't see myself paying for that.
2K all-day , live still looks like a video game even tho it is where as 2K looks more like a real NBA game being played and the players movements in live seem like they still stuck in the PS2 days .

I'm an huge live fan but I gotta give it up to 2k my reason is this. In live 18 and 19 your team members don't back u up hardly when u try to make the ball go in the basket, three of your team members could be right by the basket and when u is about to make a shot they don't back u up but the computer team always helps out they team, Soon as u get the ball u is like an magnet cause soon u have the ball u got 3 or 2 guys up on your ass forcing u to make an attempt shot that u gonna miss or the ball ends up getting stolen. It's like they know your every move soon as u get the ball, and last your teammates don't guard no body hardly at all so for me being an live fan I gotta say 2k takes the win.

I like Live, but I'm the same way, people should buy the game(s) they want to play, never mind what other people think. 2K is and has been a better game overall (Still play 2K11 and College Hoops 2K8 to this day), but Live is more fun to me now. But if 2K is more fun to you, play that. No need for everyone to see things the same way...that will never happen.
sales has nothing to do with actual gameplay. Of course live is on the come up so it won't have better sales as there was no other basketball game out for awhile alot of people are not hip to NBA live yet but it's actually a good game. Play the actual game with ea access

REMINISC3NT every game has good customer reviews so that point is irrelevant. It can make as many leaps and bounds but will still be light years behind 2k. Especially this year. 2k19 once again proved to be the better game. You can work on all the graphic and gameplay you want but eventually, you have to work on the content in the game, which live lacks. 2k thrive with way more content so you have more play time with that game. And as of now, llive 19 is already dead. People only talk about live only during the trailer and when it first drops but after that, it’s all 2k all year until the nest 2k comes out. Another thing what is the point in feeling connected to your player? that only matters in a continuing series like a game like god of war, where you are the main character getting older along side other characters you meet during your journey. 2k resets the story every year, it's like watching the spiderman series. You stop caring to see the reboot movie and just want to skip the reboot and get to part 2. isn't that part of the reason ya want to skip scenes in mycareer. live is ahead on giving us a basketball game, 2k has a identity crisis that doesn't relate to basketball. having social media and espn that relates to us today and gets to the point is fire for me. 2k is dated, not focused on basketball and money hungry . i think ya don't see the tides changed this year,it might because of hate, might be because it didn't hit ya yet or it might be because ya just use to 2k. but whatever it is, it's blinding ya right now. maybe next year 2k will get it back but this year live got it srry.
I went with Live 19- the appearance alone with the lighting reflections on the courts are super cool, love all the sports games that EA makes. It’s basically Madden Basketball. 2k 19 isn’t bad but seems like every year it’s the exact same thing and I actually feel like playing Live is more fluid than 2k. 2k has a Jerky feel to the movement. Again just my preference. Good video
My man... excellent review. On this fair and detailed review alone I'm gonna subscribe. It's hard to find a review on a recurring game that doesn't have clear biases and I didn't see it here. I'm gonna buy both and keep the better one for me. Last year it was Live I kept. I hear you on the dribbling feels the same on live player to player. That said 2K has so many I don't have the time to really lock down hardly any combos. Live is a pick up and play type method of dribbling. I hated missing layups last yr in 2K for reasons I didn't know. I'm in favor of the meter for feedback. Overall tho great review. Keep it up.
