Yes please more taste tests! Across different flavors on the same brand (like epic or rx) or even other brands that you think are better macro and taste-wise
I like that Jacob pointed out the sugar content in the Clif one. My wife is hella sugar sensitive, so our household tends to factor sugar content as a serious pro/con item.
Only score subject that I would add is price. I have a hard time spending $2 or more on snacks, mostly because I am that type of person that would eat all of my snacks before I break down and have to cook. Even though I know that I will feel better if I eat real food versus binging on snacks, I still binge, hard.
Thanks for sharing. I really liked this episode. As someone using the macro diet to lose weight I am always looking for great choices. I liked what you said at the end that when you are looking for a good protein bar but end up with a carb bar with protien in it... I feel ya! I'd love to see more episodes like this. I'm not a hardcore athlete, so when trying to find the best supplements and nutrition options out there, it can be overwhelming and frustrating. Episodes like these help.
Awe this is a cute video yall should do like a blind one test like for yalls protein shakes and stuff like can you actually tell a difference in taste if it actually better and is healthier for you if that makes sense
I sympathize with the macro issue, Jordan. I struggle so much with carb-heavy snacks/products since my macro setup is higher in fat and protein and dramatically less in carbs, so I basically have to say no to bars.
PLEASE keep going videos like these! My search for quality, tasty protein bars has been fruitless so far, and I am getting pretty desperate. I have appetite issues due to meds/chronic illness, and it's screwing up my attempts at weight loss/fitness. This, and your last nutrition videos, are going to help enormously.
You really should have used net carbs. That changes the macro scale pretty significantly. Yeah something like the quest bar has 20+ carbs, but subtracting fiber and sugar alcohols (which cannot be used for energy) makes that a net 2-5 carb protein bar.
I love RX Bars, but they do get stuck in your teeth. Think it taste good compared to the other protein bars. I had a lot of them and most are pretty bad, gritty, and very chewy. The ThinkThin protein bars are pretty good as well and has a little more protein. I heard good things about SinFits, but that's not widely available. They may be easier to find at a supplement store. Not so much at grocery stores though.
I love this. I would love to see your taste tests for different brands. This is super, SUPER helpful because I'm the same way. When I eat a protein bar, it's not because I really want a protein bar, it's because I need that energy. And I neither have the time nor patience to look at every. single. label. to decide whether it meets my goals or not. So... thanks! Awesome job, guys.
Really like this idea for a video ! It’s helpful to hear both of your scores because I’m usually grocery shopping for both me and my boyfriend. I will have to try the epic bars !
YES. Especially what you said at the end. I got so frustrated the other day looking for a quick snack and so many of the "protein" bars had all this fat and added sugar. It got me so upset.
I actually loved this more than I thought I would. I am not a huge gym nut but, lately I have been working out more, trying classes, using more and heavier weight, and paying closer attention to my diet. I did use protein bars as a snack before or after a workout and before I saw this video I was annoyed to find out about the amount of carbs in them. It was nice to see the different options in this video and it would be cool to see more protein bars or just other healthy bars in general
I loved this! i would love to see more of these videos, it's always nice to see new ideas for a quick snack in a pinch. I got so frustrated when someone tells me a specific bar is SOOOO healthy and then it has 22g of carbs. I don't need that right now, i get that elsewhere.
Yes! I 💯 agree with your gripe. I'm a powerlifter but need to keep sugars and carbs low from PCOS. Can you consider reviewing protein bars with sugar as a focus? Also ingredient decks! Have you seen how long the ingredient decks can be sometimes?
My absolute favourite protein bars are Grenade Carb Killa, caramel choas flavour and Fullfill Bars, triple chocolate flavour!! They are both low sugar and lower carbs perfect for dieting 💪🏼
So glad y’all did this!!! I’ve been trying to find a fairly good tasting protein bar. I completely agree with you Jordan, it’s irritating trying to find quick protein snacks that aren’t largely carbs and fat.
i LOVE quest bars. yes, they are very dense, but if you microwave them for 15 seconds, to me they taste delicious! they are also pretty low in calories, so it’s a great breakfast. it’s also a great breakfast because of the protein.
This was so helpful! I’ve recently had some health issues and have needed to up my protein intake. But like you said, sometimes you need something quick and so many protein bars are just sickeningly sweet. So, thank you for showing me some options/helping me rule out some bars without having to buy and taste them. 😊
Yes videos like this are super helpful. I have also had issues when I look at protein bars cause I like that’s not that much protein for a protein snack. You should do one on shakes next
Saw your guy perform in the musical Oklahoma in my hometown! I always wondered why he looked so familiar and then it dawned on me! He was very good btw 😂
I use the mint chocolate chip Clif bars regularly. I try to eat dairy free since I am vegetarian but not yet full vegan. I have also used the Clif builders bars in the flavors mint chocolate chip. I have never seen the protein Clif bar like you have in the video before.
I would definitely love more taste test videos! Some of my favorite bars (I'm a huge chocolate peanut butter fan) are fit crunch, and premier protein. I've heard good things about think thin bars and one bars but I haven't had a chance to try them yet. So a review of all of those would be awesome
Good to know I'm not the only one hating on the quest bars, they seem to be popular but I think they taste aweful. I've found the barbells protein bar to be the best protein bars as far as taste and macro breakdown! Would love another one of these :)
I love this video! I found it super helpful - and I’m not an athlete! Protein bars are something that even us “average” folk grab because we think it’s a healthy option - but it may not be for us. This was really great! I would love if you did this with more things! Protein powders, shakes, etc. And doing a taste test with multiple flavors from one brand would be cool. Also - try the Think Thin bars!
Would be interested in Keto friendly bars. I've always been a fan of the Atkin's bars simply because there's such a wide variety of different bars for different purposes whether its meal replacement, snack, or dessert. Pure protein bars are also a decent choice if you're keeping carbs lower, or at least want to reserve carbs for meals. Though those bars certainly aren't "clean" they could be a good alternative for someone who is fighting cravings but still trying to keep their diet very strict on carbs or even having to pay attention to glycemic index. They definitely helped me when I was weening myself off of processed foods.
Loved this episode! I have been searching for a good new "protein" bar as well. I enjoy the Clif Whey bars actually, but I am usually using them as meal replacements during a busy day, so the macros work out for me and I love the chocolate coconut almond flavored one. I only use the original ones when I am out on hikes and need the energy. I love the Power Crunch bars! The chocolate mint one tastes like a thin mints. I like that it's super light and not dense like a lot of other ones. Down side is it melts easily, so have to be careful about that.
my absolute favorite protein bar is Combat Crunch. Macros are really good and they taste really good. My personal favorites are either the white chocolate raspberry or birthday cake.
This video is relevant to my interests. I agree that protein bars are kind of weird in that they aren't especially protein heavy... and as a vegetarian with like a typically female calorie restriction.. trying to fit a protein bar in always feels like a why bother. Too many calories and not the kind I'm looking for usually. Many of them are like full meals which sucks because I know I'll be hungry an hour later. I usually make my own.
Definitely try more bars though and I *highly* recommend giving Grenade Carb Killa bars a try. High protein, low net carbs, low sugar and low fat...literally the only bars I'll buy!
This was so good! I am in the same boat- it is so hard to find good BALANCED protein bars. And the ones that have a good amount of protein usually taste like crap.
This review was GREAT! I'm paleo and have been using the Rise simplest protein bar, and am getting bored with the taste. I never thought of using the chicken epic bar, which I already eat as a snack anyway.
loved this video! my favourite bars are carb killa grenade - best flavour i think is white chocolate. I cant wait until they start selling the selection boxes again so I can stock up x
definitely do another one!! I’m still on the hunt for a decent protein bar bc I haaaate the super chewy ones (like rx and quest) and that’s mostly what I seem to find. if you do do another one, would you mind maybe also mentioning how much sugar is in them too?
Just wanted to let you know I've been using zombie run nearly everyday and have actually been really enjoy running which is a first for me. Thanks so much for the suggestion
Do one for protein powder!!! Also, could you talk about added sugar content as well as macros because that's something I also look out for! (Love your videos BTW)
I'll keep my story short: - I lost 70lbs in 2 years. - I got pregnant at the beginning of 2015. - I gained 45lbs during pregnancy, lost 20 after the first month. - I went undiagnosed during my pregnancy with a thyroid issue. - Didn't find out until a year post partum and couldn't lose weight no matter how hard I tried. - I'm now losing weight again after being healed. Okay so my question - would you recommend protein bars for weight loss?! I try not to eat over 1500 calories a day, I work out 5 days a week either HIIT or strength training. I normally have a couple apples with peanut butter as an after workout snack. But looking into protein shakes/bars for a substitute and possible meal replacement. Sorry for the long comment lol! Just looking for advice😊
You guys should try Perfect Bars, they are refrigerated bars, really really good at room temp or a little warmed up. I get them at target, next to the produce.
I completely agree, I'm 3 weeks into Keto and bought some bars last week, but would Only consider them as treats for say once a week on a saturday or friday night as a dessert with a movie if I had room to fit them in. Ive had one of the 8 I bought and have no urge to eat them. Yes please do more of these :) its interesting to see the break downs. Could you please try Maxine's Burn - White Choc Raspberry is my favourite flavour Thanks :)
I don't have a sweet tooth and prefer savory flavors, too. You should check out EPIC's salt & pepper venison bars. The macros are pretty good (2g carbs, 3g fat, 12g protein).
I knew that this is going to be the argument why Jacob gave it 8 out of 10 and you gave it 3 out of 10 when it comes to the macros for the RX bar is pretty good but for us girls usually need less carbs so we don’t wanna waste carbs like that haha. Love you guys. I think quest bars are the safe option!! Try the birthday cake from quest bar it is my favorite!!
If you do another taste test, I'd love to see how the Kirkland brand protein bars stack up for you guys. (I like them because of the fiber/protein as well as the price).
I love this video! I usually eat the Cliff Builder bars- I can get a big box of them, and they're all fairly good flavours. I'm very sensitive to the things I eat, so I can't ever get past the taste... so I love hearing good reviews on other options!!
More pls. I get protein bars have to be pretty dense but I'd love to find out about ones that are less so. Or at least worth it, considering the macros.
