The FK8 is way more refined than the GR... 2 different approaches in my opinion. Both are awesome but I opted for the GR ❤ in ⚫️ fully loaded and I love it 😀
Keep in mind that +R VSC mode off (it's off but maintains the torque bias by brake) isn't available in individual mode. Individual mode has only VSC reduced. The pedal dance completely disables it in any mode.
Don't forget the Type-R costs more, and you get less with not having AWD. Seems backward, I know... you want to add AWD to your CTR, it will cost you about $20k in the aftermarket. It's been done, is how I know. You want to add nice seats to your GR Corolla, it'll cost $1000 in the aftermarket (but you can probably put in nice camry seats out of the junkyard if you tried). Do the math.
Pretty poor comparison ... completely ignore that the corolla is 4 WD. Introduce a wet road or any poor surface and the front wheel drive Civic will be destroyed. If you are going to do a comparison put on the tyres!!!!!!
@@Sean-gu3tq Also, they should put on the AWD in the CTR for $20k more... or they could add the aftermarket rear electric motors that are integrated into the wheels... oh yeah, also $20k.
I owned a Morizo Corolla and a GR Yaris (Rallye). I sold the Morizo because I could feel the weight and the width of the car on tight mountain roads compared to the Yaris. I looked at the Honda and while I loved the seats and seating position, the amazing gearbox and thumping power, it just felt way too wide - even wider than the Corolla. Not to mention axle hop, torque steer and understeer are always going to be haunting a front wheel drive car on wet mountain roads. On a silky smooth track? The Honda will destroy the Corolla, but the rougher and wetter the roads, the further the Corolla (and Yaris) will get away. In the end though, for me? I love the Yaris and will no doubt buy another one when the updated version comes out sometime next year (cross fingers)
I'll keep my FK8, it's a blast to drive and I don't need the 20k more expensive FL5. The Corolla looks nice, the Yaris is more popular here in Europe though.
Here in the States, Honda dealers are marking up the car at least $10k USD, which is almost 1/4 of the MSRP. For that reason and a few others, I'll be taking delivery of a GR Corolla in a few months.
Great Cars, nice review Drive. The Civic is an awesome beast and the Corolla is not far behind. But these cars still are not as fast around this circuit as the GR Yaris Rallye, 1:01.80 according to Scott Newman. I would love to see all three of these cars go head to head. Wet and dry, track and road.
In Canada, there is a Core version of the GR Corolla priced at around $50,000 Aussie dollars with the same performance numbers as the Circuit Edition. So comparing this price with the 72,600 on the Type R, I think there is more value to have on the GRC even if it can't outperform the Type R.
Literally depends what you want. I could care less about rhe fwd honda, nicer interior, and slightly bigger vehicle. The awd and front and rear differential with cylinder turbo has me sold.
Wow.. Civic looks a lot smaller when next to the Corolla. By itself it looks kind of big. The GR is surprisingly fun on track - way better than I expected though I had the diff give up within 15 min every time. Some coilovers, stiffer rear bar and different wheels/tires would make the Corolla a weapon I think. I can't help but think you should have your rear seat back up a notch so the wheel is not so far away... I bet control would be finer.
Loved the track battle, but could have been more objective. For the price difference, could have put them on the same tire. 4S is better then the Apex 0.32s around one lap. Never mind that the R uses 265 vs 235 for the GR. I think that on an equal tire the Corolla would have won.
Whats the point of that? They tested the cars as they leave the factory and they are exact the same on that track. Do you speak of the six hundreds of a difference? 😂
I wish more of these car comparos would take this into account. Obviously, not every channel has the means to bring several sets of tires to do this type of review, but it is something that an enthusiast owner would consider doing.
And the GR has AWD and is newer. Where do you stop? The cars were tested as they would be when bought -- directly relevant and comparable to potential buyers.
@@chillikoala If a review mentions tires and they state that this compound is better than the other one, they've opened themselves to the question. An enthusiast owner would want to know.
The FL5 R mode suspension seems to be a downgrade on the FK8 - they overdid it in the FL5 and it seems to be a common complaint from track users. Most tests on RU-vid seem to be in Sport mode.
I would like to see how the 2024 circuit with the suspension upgrade does on a track. They made several changes to the new models and changed up the lineup a lot.
Red interior wins and looks luxurious on camera. Corolla black ceiling and black everything is too dark. Add dark tint at night and its like being buried alive with your cell phone.
But they look ugly, especially the new ones, they look like they have hemorrhoids, plus the wheel design looks weird, could've stayed with the typical round around the wheel.
What's Honda known for? FWD econobox that drives really well with VTEC and is not ridiculously expensive. If you want RWD you're only getting a 2 seater if from Honda and in today's money will be $90k+ which you won't buy so Honda won't make it before the EV chassis designs.
@@onandilewis3290 Cool. You cared enough to reply nonsense now twice. Your dream bubble can stay but just one of those you don't understand what Honda does well if you think that and that's fine, it's just a dream.
The hood vents on the GR Corolla are fake. The tire repair kit of the Civic is not underneath the trunk carpet but behind the left side cover and you can switch off automatic rev matching in the Type R Infotainment menu.
@@nfspeedy2 No doubt they are more form over function. They do however extract some heat albeit minimal. A fake vent would not allow any heat extraction.
All the vents are real if you own one and you wash it the water exits from another hole in the front guards and the rain trays on the bonnet vents can be removed
Absolute piece of junk for the money you have to spend. It is a shame that people are taken everyday by this company for their garbage cars. I know because back in the day I've had one. It was nothing but a bottomless pit of money and big construction. The workmanship the quality of what they use for material was absolute horrific junk my Nissan GTR will blow the doors off of anything at Ferrari makes. And I have just slightly under 300 grand in that car and you can't touch it. I'm telling you that only so you can wise up and not go through what I went through with the false a hood that they give you about how great. Their cars are. Talk to the people that have owned him. I think you'll be able to decide for yourself. We're a better area of money would be spent and ensure as hell. Isn't a Ferrari?
