Awesome video ! I'm inlove with the Type R . Also excited but I have to wait until 2025 for mine to arrive. The Nissan is on a different level though God damn that RWD is powerful. Keep it up.
@@jponz85 nah, the Evo and sti make like 240-250 to the wheel… the R it’s like 280 and the N is around there. The R and the N are lighter than both the Sti and the Evo. So top end it’s GG roll or dig
Good race...Sam, you should try the 50mph roll race speed next to see the outcome. Interesting that the speed was the same from a dig and roll race. Looks like it was about a 5 car gap from the dig on the last one with the Elantra. Can't wait to see the Acura integra Type S race!
Thanks for keeping the Elantra N in the mix, so cool to see how it does against more expensive and more powerful cars. It really is in a unique niche in terms of performance.
Current N car owner, former Q50 owner(same engine as the Z). If you want to drag race, the Z is obviously the way to go here. RWD>FWD. Tires and a tune and they'll probably beat the fastest FB0 tuned N car out there. My Q50 went 11.71 tune only, 11.39 with just downpipes and an e30 tune. N vs CTR, I can't comment about the manual Ns, but the DCT Ns post faster 1/4 mile ETs than the CTRs do. They tend to come off the line quicker, even having skinnier tires and all that. I'd still expect the DCT N to lose in a roll race to a CTR with a good driver most of the time. Slightly more power, slightly lighter. On a track, manual vs manual, it's been proven multiple times that the CTR is generally a bit faster. A savagegeese video was recently done comparing lap times of the CTR vs EN(and a few other cars) all done by the same driver on the same tires. The CTR won, but not by a lot. The EN, from what the video shows, was only boosting 15psi, so it may not have been octane learned. Octane learning is a real thing on these cars and might account for a legit 30-50hp or something. In my testing, just octane learning reduces almost a half a second from the 0-60 alone from the extra 3-5psi boost(depending on fuel grade). That being said... The CTR looks way better than the EN inside out and has a higher build quality. Resale value on the CTR will absolutely crush the ENs. People sell 5 year old CTRs for the same price they paid for them, so you could buy one and basically drive it for free over a few years of ownership(assuming you could get one at MSRP). A 5 year old EN will probably loose $7-12k or something. Hard to say exactly, we're not there yet. All in all, as an N car owner, I'd say the CTR is a better overall package, but is it worth the $10,000 MSRP over the EN? Eh, maybe if you have no issues affording that and don't care that the DCT EN for example might run the 1/4 a little better. Is it worth the $20k extra people are paying with markups and whatnot included? Eh, no, but at the end of the day with markup included and less depreciation it's probably going to cost you about 10k more than an EN. If 10k isn't a big deal to you, I'd probably go CTR. At the end of the day, you could buy an EN, spend $1000 on an ECU tune, it'll be faster than a CTR in almost any scenario, and you'll still save $9,000 out front. It may not look as good(personal opinion) and may not have the prestige, but it will likely provide more overall performance for less money. The actual amount of money you'd save over an extended ownership period has yet to be determined. I apologize for the slightly incoherent rant, it's still early and I haven't finished my 1st cup of coffee yet. I was out late enjoying the 50 degree air, ripping my fantastic tuned DCT N car around on the local country roads. #racetracktheworld #neverjustdrive
Love seeing the z make it's way in every so often! Not alot of coverage since launch day. Would like to see a run with good tires because it seems to be a running theme with all the Z runs you've hosted Sam. Tha KS for the amazing content!
@@e46m54nissansr20937 Because they know they could've done better with it and didn't. At least they actually came up with something, and the roots are definitely there. It'll most likely be short lived since everything will transition to electric in the next 5 years.
@@jordynhixson655 I actually have. Its actually embarrassing how much posts ive seen on social media about blown up DCT transmissions for Hyundais. I had a 22 VN 6 M/T for a few months and it showed signs of unreliability already despite being a fun ass car lol
Love my EN manual. Less power, but geared well, designed well, wonderful balance of acceleration and handling for such a great price. Money left over for some modest mods that will make it más macho 💪🏼👍🏼
@@Mike-lt6sj Have to say that I prefer the way Hondas look overall. Just the same, have you seen the Elantra N up close? It’s actually quite stunning in its own rite. But yeah, looking directly at the front of mine, pretty much resembles a catfish 😂
@@riccitone Yeah, there's a few of them in my area. I just can't get over that. I prefer the teggy type s over the type r as far as looks go, but the new type r looks a lot better than it used to.
🚙👍🏼👊🏼Awesome video! Such incredible cars!! Early this year I traded my 2019 FK8 Type R and got a 2023 FL5!! I have really enjoyed it and over all I like it better than my FK8!! The build quality of the FL5 is quite a bit better than the FK8 in my experience and opinion! Everything about it is a step above the FK8! I think it’s hard to explain the difference if a person hasn’t driven both for any good period of time! I was fortunate to get my FL5 at msrp because I have a great relationship with my local Honda dealership! Keep up the amazing content!! I am a new subscriber and look forward to more videos in the future 🚙👍🏼👊🏼🙏🏼🔥
Great races between the Elantra N and Type R but I would have liked to see a driver swap. Both very consistent but the fella driving the type-r was a bit better
The Z has two turbos and a V6 so no surprise that it’s faster but it’s possible to make the type R way faster then stock so the potential is there for sure .
I hope it's the DCT N at least. Even though the N isn't winning either way because of power. Of course it's the manual 🙃 not a fair race at this point. After watching this video I can say the automatic N would have taken the type r or a really close one.
Sam found the roughest Elantra N he could find with that 300,000 mile steering wheel, black badges everywhere and driver who short shifts losing 20 metres each shift. (see his hand fall off the shifter in the video) A manual Elantra N traps 107mph stock so it shouldn't be miles behind, it should stay with TYPER on a roll. DCT is faster again as it doesn't dump boost through gear changes, has more boost and shifts quicker. Sam also likes to get the jump on the runs... He hits the gas and 2 seconds later says GO..
This was easily the most fake test I think I’ve seen in perhaps eleven years. Civil, and short, I know how to do. Hyundai, I have no doubt, spent several million developing that ‘N-Series’ and you slow-walked, and trashed it, horribly. I watched the whole menagerie six times, and thought, I must be losing my mind, and if that’s happened, It will take longer finding it with this channel as a compass. Outside of that, fantastic camera-work. Good luck
@@larrycharles-dm2hs Not if they consult with Lotus, and Infinity in two areas… I just got off the phone with a friend just now. He seems to think (suspension tuning, and mid-band reserve engine power) I told him, from his lips to Hyundai’s ears. I agreed.
@@larrycharles-dm2hs ….. and I still think they came-off way too cavalier, and matter of fact about the whole dxmn thing. It’s ok. They’ll be getting a letter from me in Seoul.
I have 16k miles on my N and the steering wheel does not look worn at all. How is his so worn? Also, with mods and tunes, they are very similar. I beat previous gen type r’s all day on track and autocross. Mods matter, driver matters, they are very close though. (I pocket the 20k real world price difference) plus, I am always a fan of the underdog.
@@Justaeuropeanman but it is kinda sad that you have to spend so much on the Type R, and then spend more on mods to beat a car that is significantly cheaper. Performance per dollar per mod the EN wins.
@@lllll981 I mean you kinda get what you pay for. You can get a Elantra N that is cheaper but no matter how much modifications you throw on it will never run as fast as laps as the Type R. Or You can pay more for the Type R and with modifications you can outrun pretty much supercars around the track.
My thoughts exactly!! I was lookin for this comment. Even if it had a decent amount of miles. The car is relatively new being a 2022. Should be falling about like that
I was going to point that out as well. I said let me check the comments. Glad to see I am not the only one who noticed. Really says alot about the quality. The leather steering wheel on my 07 accord is in better shape
@@jpm408 funny you say that I just got the 2023 accord sport hybrid as my daily driver and I have a mustang as the weekend warrior. I must say the Accords leather steering wheel is top notch.
That's just dirt because the nasty ass who owns it doesn't clean it and it's sticking to the oil from his hands. Also the dude driving the Elantra needs to learn how to NLS in that EN.
The key thing to note, is that the real problem are the dealerships that mark these cars high. These franchising laws need to change. It was VERY difficult trying to find a Nissan dealership that didn't want to sell the Z at a ridiculous mark up.
@@corrosivedevourer I believe it. I only saw one, it was a Proto. They were asking for $95k for the Proto spec and 70 something for a base. I decided to leave and go to Honda, I’ll probably throwup at whatever markup there will be on the Z NISMO.
@@juanfernandez8987 Yeah, it is simple, Dealers are very greedy and trying to control the market, because they have too much power. In todays terrible economy, people are very desperate, and companies are exploiting this. There are supply shortages everywhere, the economy is crap, so the rich people come out, and will pay any price they ask. Which is a HUGE destriment to the middle and lower class. It is typical greed and exploitation. Honda said, they sold 40% under their projections of the Fk8, all because dealers held them hostage at huge markups and refused to sell them for MSRP. What this does is artificially increase demand, for a supply that is already there, but is being purposely held back from the public so they can jack up the prices.
@@JonHop1 Remember Dell back in the day when it started? They sold directly to customer, bypassing all middle detailers. This was a breakthrough business model back then. We need to do that with cars. Buy directly from Honda and ship it to our house.
No clue, but that's a driver thing. It's just a plain nice leather wrapped steering wheel. Mine has no wear at all at 11k miles, and I've had it for a bit over a year lmao. The wheel itself feels better than any other leather wheel I've held, in my experience
I am rwd junkie myself and have only owned rwd cars, mostly m3s, amg, nsx 2nd gen.and currently gr86 but this gen type r and elantra n would be the only fwd cars that could possibly break my tradition. In line to obtain a type r possible after mid cycle refresh at msrp dealer
Imo they’re just showing what these cars can do in everyday scenarios like from a light or highway fun, even possibly drag strip. Lots of people do go to road course, but the vast majority of people don’t. Going to road courses costs more with memberships and don’t get me started on tires😂 along with brakes.
Good racing Sam, I always love to see EN going against other cars even if it loses 🙂 however I don’t know how much seat time Elantra N driver have, cause watching those races it seems like there’s no launch control or traction off cause EN is struggling bad from the dig and Sam was always ahead in rolls. But great video at least we know where manual EN stands more or less and btw DCT is definitely faster and actually make more power 😉
I saw another video where the DCT Elantra races the Type R it still lost but it was a lot closer to the Type R the Elantra only lost by like a foot thats a lot less than what the manual lost to it by that’s pretty impressive but trying to go against the Z stock there’s no way lol
@@Justaeuropeanman against Z hell no lol there are videos when EN wins and loses, but I’m yet to find out myself cause I have a guy who wants to race his Type R so I will definitely make a video about it regardless of the outcome haha 🙂
I got 24k of seat time in my 2023 EN. When I'm in kill mode, Sam's shifting style seemed limp in comparison. Don't know what's wrong with other driver... The hopping is bad, but u need to make it hop a tiny bit, or you're not giving it enough and then short-shift at about 300rpm (from redline) which will make it boogie in 2nd. Seriously, the inhouse shots of EN seemed very limp compared to what I'm used to.
@JoshLopez-fm5hi Because it's a brilliant driver's car regardless of cost or badge. I know a couple Porsche owners in an N owners page who could easily afford a CTR or Z. They chose the Elantra N as their trackable daily.

What a race! If possible can we have the weight on KG too when that lovely spec info box pops up? BTW having those car spec pop ups over the vehicles is very helpful for instant comparison.
The Elantra N weighs 3,208lbs Sam. Even though that's what was on the screen during the specs, you said it weighed 3,808lbs. But still an awesome video. Drive safe my friend
The results seem strange I might be missing something but many Elantra N’s on RU-vid are hitting 0-60 in 5 sec flat. If these numbers are accurate it would make a great difference in the dream results.
Sums up Nissan in general the past two decades. The GTR hasn't changed much and it's the only thing that was exciting in decades but it is stale if you ask me.
The z is just an over priced Elantra N or civic type r You can get similar performance out of a Hyundai N car for a lot less money unless you don’t care about putting your kids through college then I would stick with the civic or Elantra..
The z is a good bit cheaper then a civic type r also the Elantra n is only about 9000$ dollars less then the Z They all are slightly similar in their own way. Hyundai is coming up in the world all these Hyundai N cars that people used to call “cheap” are now made By BMW…. 🎉
