I run ox lockers. I like the manual cable/shifter. Then no matter what you use with the ox air, electric, or manual cable if something goes wrong you can use their drive away lock which installs down at the axle to keep it locked and bypass all the shifter mechanisms. Some people only use the drive away lock and leave it locked all the time or crawl under to lock/unlock.

I have been wheeling my 2018 JLU Sport "Whiplash" for 3 years on open diffs a 2.5" lift and 35s and the thing is VERY capable. I've done soo many trails that friends have said I shouldn't attempt without lockers but with good lines, decent driving, patience and some good spotting where its needed so far I haven't had too much trouble, i've even gotten through some spots where my friends got there Rubicons stuck and had to winch off me. From SoCal, to Arizona, MOAB, Colorado my little sport hasn't let me down yet. Eventually we will go bigger (tires, lift and axles) and add lockers but for now weve got other projects to focus on and Whiplash is keeping up just fine.

When you started to talk about wheeling with open diffs first, you couldn’t be more accurate. I currently have a JL sport with stock axes and have had an FJ cruiser with an e-locker in the past. You definitely appreciate picking your lines more when you have an open diff. The locker definitely helps in certain situations, but my JL sport has kept up with plenty of Rubicon‘s. And having a spotter is absolutely helpful. Thanks for all the videos your content is absolutely amazing. Keep them coming.

A long arm vs short arm podcast would be awesome!

Reliability wise on the JL, im looking at an eaton, or arb or an ox. Eaton seems the simplest for the install to be entirely honest. The arb is neat cause of engagement speeds etc and since I’m already installing an air compressor it would pair well. And then ox, I would love a cable engagement but have no clue where I would route it, so air engagement would probably be the move for me , or an electric engagement for it also. What usually recommended?

On the JL, Eaton or OX. Eatons electric engagement is solid and for OX I would go air.

@@Exodus4x4 With the locking mechanism, would one have to worry about rocking the jeep back and forth? I’ve read that rocking an eaton will have it unlock for about half a rotation. I’m basically sold on getting an eaton compared to an air locker. And are there any strength issues? It looks like the eaton has a 4 pin ramp up on the collar.

I have an '05 TJ Rocky Mtn 4.0L with 3.73's and lsd that has served me well on the trail 90% of the time with just 2" Old Man Emu coils and 32" ko2's. But might be moving for a better job that will get me near better and more challenging trails. Wondering if you can tell me what lockers I can get that will not affect the driveability on road at all, and will be rock solid dependable? I will stay with 32's but get BFG MT's since the build is dialed in perfectly now making this TJ the best and most fun, capable vehicle I've ever had on and off-road.

Question on long vs short arms. Could you get a long arm kit for a wrangler with 0-2 inches of lift? And would it push the axles further than stock? (Long arm vs short arm podcast would be greatly appreciated)

I mean you could but it wouldn't serve the purpose most people are looking for in a long arm kit.

So it sounds like you kind of lean more towards the Eaton E locker how about the half tire revolution before the locker locks that I hear about. Is that true or is this just what arb people say. Ha

Man, I've been pricing the curey 5 lug with the Eaton lockers and using the switch pro 6. I think this would be the best way for me and bang for my money. Will this handle a 392? What are your thoughts? Thanks for all the good content little different approaches and I like the older stuff, but I know you have to find new ways to make all your stuff work for you again. Thanks

What do you think of the Detroit Locker?
@jasonlovell3934

I have used them in Jeeps since the 90’s and they work great but do push you around on the street. If it is only a trail rig run a Detroit rear and selectable front.

Don't you think it's a little irresponsible to start a podcast with, "...most people know what they are..." when you know Cheryl and I are listening to this? You were a little harsh on my boy Ryan in this episode. Chill on that boy, you know he's the star of the show. Just finished listening to this one for the fourth time. I need the four pin Eaton's front and rear
