Great video. We stayed at ocean club at the end of April. We went over to the surf club pool a few times without issue but they did do wristband enforcement for the water slide. No problems floating the lazy river without a wristband. Definitely agree on the noise level between the two - surf club seemed like a zoo in comparison to ocean club

I agree, Surf Club is much busier. Time of year may make a difference on how strict they are. We were there in June and did see them more strict. But their enforcement isn't all that consistent. Thanks for watching!

The Ocean Club was the first MVC that we ever stayed at. When the Surf Club was built we would go with another couple and one of us would stay at the Ocean Club while the other was at the Surf Club. This way we could use both of the pools as we wanted. While the Surf Club is definitely more popular I will say that using the Ocean Club pool is definitely more relaxing than the Surf Club. The lazy river is wonderful but it is also extremely crowded so your advice to head down to the pool around 4 in the afternoon is spot on. Great video

I love your channel - always great information! I’ve stayed at both of these places and Stellaris and the Renaissance - Palm beach is the best! We are President level and continue to have difficulty booking either of these places - any suggestions?

Due to the nature of ownership and it being an international resort, any point inventory requires owners to elect points from their owned week. So this resort is highly dependent on owners electing points and many owners don't believe Marriott allocated enough points for their weeks. So owners tend to use their weeks or rent them. We have been successful exchanging in through Interval International, but that requires that you own a Marriott week. The best advice is to be sure you are online at midnight eastern time on the day of inventory release to make a points reservation. I know MVC says 9am eastern, but many people are able to see and make reservations at midnight.

Excellent comparison. Both are great MVCI properties. Our preference is the Surf Club with the in room laundry. Surf Club is definitely in need of a refresh which is in progress. We spend most of the time at the beach renting an umbrella from Vanessa so we don't have to deal with a Palapa reservation and guaranteed to be front row. Looking forward to a 3 week trip in September.

Thanks for watching. I am curious, how much do they charge for the beach chairs and umbrellas up front? I recall when they started this a number of years ago and many Surf Club guests were not happy with the change.

@@DestinationTimeshare Increased from $40 to $50 in 2023. Since the beach is public land only the Aruba government can control what the vendors can and cannot do.

Great info, thanks! My wife and I stayed at the Ocean Club back in 2006 and 2007 and haven't been back to Aruba since. Back then there was no issue using any locations pool, but I know they've changed things up since then. Now with two kids we're thinking maybe the Surf Club, although all that's available for the summer seems to be the efficiency studios so a little more cramped than the Ocean Club. Do you think the fact that it seems like it would be more fun for kids at Surf Club makes up for the smaller room? Also do you know if the activity calendars are available online?

Hard to say. A studio unit would be rather cramped but the kids would love the lazy river. Great video. We have a an upcoming reservation at the Surf Club end of April booked it 13months out seems like that was the only way we would be able to get a reservation. Debating on if we will rent a car? Can you recommend a rental car company Have you had any experiences with rental car companies in Aruba?

We've rented cars every time. I don't know if the rental agency matters all that much. We have used Alamo and Budget, but they are just franchise locations. Cars tend to be older and beat up. We like being able to drive around and explore the island. Driving around is pretty easy. Thanks for watching!

We didn't use the spa, so I can't speak to it. We always rent a car in Aruba because we like to drive around. Though once you've done that a few times there isn't much else to see. We might not rent a car on future trips though. The Palm Beach shopping and dining district is just a short walk from the Surf and Ocean Club resorts. Thanks for stopping by and for watching!

@DestinationTimeshare Thanks for the quality response! The remaining question is whether you'll check out the MVC properties in Bali anytime soon? We loved the Phuket Beach Club...it seemed a tier above because it's also classified as a JW Marriott property

Sorry that I missed answering the Bali question. It doesn't look like we will be going there in the near future. It would sure be great to go, but probably not in the cards for the next few years at least.

We prefer the surf club over ocean club, however availability is still tough for both. Inventory gone less than one minute after 9 the last two times I tried to reserve. Lots of week owners at these resorts which makes availability difficult for points folks.

Yes, they can be difficult to reserve with points. Owning a deeded week helps and even using a week to exchange in through Interval International is not that hard. Thanks for watching!

I've been told the Aruba Marriotts don't have deeds for the time shares; just leases. What happens when the lease expires, do you have to pay more? I'm looking into buying one at the Surf Club, and the leases expire in 2056.

That is my understanding. The contrasts in Aruba are what they call Right to Use. You don't own a deed like they have in the USA. I don't really know how it will work when the lease expires. I understand it has to do with MVC actually leasing the underlying land from the country of Aruba. The lease may simply expire and you no longer own anything. They may do this even if MVC renews the least and then MVC can just somehow turn this into a points only product.

How crowded does the Surf Club get during Thanksgiving week?

We've never actually been there during Thanksgiving. But I suspect it is pretty full given most travelers to Aruba are from the United States. You may want to see if you can find a Surf Club owner group on Facebook to check. It certainly isn't a peak time to travel but it isn't the lowest time of year either.
