I wanted to explain the differences between the various MK1 Audi TT models since they don't get a lot of comparison anymore. These are probably the best bang for your buck performance tuner you can buy right now and more people should know about them.
I am building one of these on my channel so If you would like to see that feel free to like and subscribe.
Thank you so much for watching!

I had both the 180 and the 225. I recommend the 225 hands down. Super simple car to work on too. I love that you can remove the front end and pull the motor out pretty easily

2005 3.2 owner and have to say that the sound and not having to worry about boost issues are enough to not even consider the 1.8T. Granted I use it as a daily and am not tempted to tune for more HP. The included body upgrades that come standard with the VR6 models (extended spoiler, front bumper/grille/headlamp differences, and rear honeycomb accent) is just icing on the cake, too. Not to mention the DSG is something special which is remarkable given that it was a first for a production car. My timing chain at 130k is still at -2 and -1 degrees btw with regular maintenance. Plus, with the VR6 being much more rare, it’s even more of a reason to seek it out. Did I mention the sound? Even with the stock exhaust it’s one of the best sounding cars around.

I’m doing forged rods, f21 turbo, ecaconcepts tune, wide band conversion, intercooler, rims tires, I’ve already done r8 coil pack, evap delete, diesel geek bushing, short shifter, wheel bearings, black widow exhaust,

Great information!! I daily a 2015 VW R-line Bug but have always wanted a small, zippy, two seater. I've been on the edge of getting an old TT and this video is pushing me over! The 3.2 is super tempting but I'm leaning more towards the 225 because I loooove turbos. I'm only holding back because project cars are a huge investment... financially AND emotionally. 😂 Would I fall in love!? Thanks again!

I’ve been watching a lot of your videos. I really like the mk1 TT and am thinking about getting a coupe. Any suggestions as to what I should look for? I only drive about 4000 miles per year in my own car so I’m thinking the TT could be my daily or maybe my winter car. I know I should make sure the timing belt and water pump has been done. About how much do you think I should pay? I think most the cars I see have around 100k miles. I’m hoping to find a silver one with black interior. Or maybe black on black. Thanks for the great content. If I get a TT I’ll certainly try some of your upgrades-although I’ll need a mechanic to do it for me since I don’t have access to a garage.

Awesome informative video! I'm looking to pick up my first car and I can't really decide which one to go with, the 180 or 225. How much faster is the 225Q than a FWD 180? I've heard that the difference is very minimal since the 225's AWD system weighs more. 🙂 I've heard that it's around 150KG more on the quattro, correct me if I'm wrong

I own a 225hp 6-speed Mk1 Roadster with Baseball Leather interior. I've added an aftermarket diverter to it which improves throttle response and torque relatively easily. I'm intrigued by the other possible Mods and will be researching them. One thing I was surprised didn't come up in this video is any discussion of FWD vs. AWD. I used to assume AWD is always preferable from a handling and torque-steer standpoint, but my mechanic educated me that the AWD on the TT Mk1 is Haldex, not Torsen, which essentially means the TT Quattro is FWD until the AWD kicks in. I've never driven a 180hp FWD TT, and I've also read there are a few Quattro 180hp TT's out there (although they are rare) and I'm curious if others have opinions on FWD vs Haldex AWD in these fantastic little cars.

Here in the good 'ol UK of Britain, there are still a few TT's running around, most of them 180's. I bought a 3.2 because I didn't want a turbo, and as you say, the performance is very linear. Accelerating hard in Sport mode is frustrating because 2 gear changes sees you already exceeding our 70mph speed limit with the car still pulling strongly......and making an amazing noise while doing so. Would be good to take it out to Germany and see what it's like on the Autobahns.
@HunterDirection
@HunterDirection 2 года назад
Yeah the 3.2 is an incredible engine! My friend has an A3 with the Vr6 and it's so fun to drive! You are spot on, it's so linear that you don't realize you are going 70+ until you're well past it :) thanks for the support!

I get around mid 20's avg maybe, 29mpg @ 75mph long trips. And yes my 225 has been sorted and I accelerate as gently as possible given the price of gas now... I could imagine 32mpg at 60mph on a flat surface. You're referring to mpgs not kilometers, right?

Im thinking to buy a tt 225 or a pug rcz or a fiesta st mk7 one you think is the best??
@HunterDirection
@HunterDirection 2 года назад
That's a really interesting question. From an american perspective the rcz will always be cool because you cant get them here haha. From my research though that car is basically the mk2 tt. The fiesta and the rcz will both feel like more modern cars than the 225 which is a blessing and a curse. The mk2tt platform is known for being very reliable and I've been in a mk2 tts quite a bit, which was a blast! The 225 feels like more of an analog car when compared to the mk2 platform from my personal experience. Lots of that classic turbo car feel with turbo lag and fantastic road feel. Id look into if the rcz has magnetic ride like the tts or not. Both are great though. Ive also only heard good things about the fiesta st, but it's fwd so it will feel alot different than the haldex systems in the audi based cars. Happy to chat more about it if youd like. Buy the car for what it is - a piece of automotive sculpture and one of the best looking cars to emerge from the late 20th century. If you want something faster more nimble, buy another car. If you do mod it, do so sensibly and try to leave the car's iconic lines alone. You wouldn't buy a Picasso and improve it with a few brush strokes of your own, would you?

@@HunterDirection Au contraire. Merci Vous. And, I haven't used French since I took it for 14 years to get credit for 2. Your work has helped me beyond what I can describe. I'm thinking I'm going to apply to RU-vid University for a BS in HunterDirectionology. My previous 30 or so cars have been old BMWs so I'm getting raised eyebrows from both my daughters. The oldest started with a 150K, '82 320i in '92 to ease the taxi runs to after school activities. It ran another through college and another100K. My explanation is, I've just turned 80 and am doing my best to get back to my first car, a '54 100-4 Austin Healey roadster with which I learned about cars during the mid-60's. I'm weeks away from running out to Tempe and picking up my '01 Quattro roadster with a baseball glove interior and fat 5 wheels. I want to change nothing on the outside other than perhaps a lip and in the back of my mind, remove the rear lip, but for sure, want to do 3" in and out of the turbo and maybe (?) larger injectors before a tune from Motozaperformance. Then vacuum lines. I bought my new big smile from Chuck who owns Autodealz AZ, my 3rd purchase this year, and it's with now with Rick, an independent tech there who will let me know what I need before I head 1,900 miles east to mid Ohio.Haldex (?), etc He helped with shocks and control arms on the last one, an '04 545/6. Your tt sounds like it will be a great car! I love the fat 5s, and have a set as my winter wheels. A full 3 inch airflow system and tune would really wake the car up! @@HunterDirection I stay in touch with a friend since kindergarden. He saved $600 and got a 2 door Merc stick. Shaving the head a bit and adding duals was the way to do it then. We were blessed to have parents who wanted us to learn stick so we had back to back 2 dr Pontiac, V8 sticks, '55 & 60. I learned to pull transmissions with the first one. My dad walked to work for a couple of weeks while a friend and I figured it out. Cars weren't the be all to end all. We all went on to different things. I, a linguist. I was able to buy the Healey, $650, and did a frame up rebuild in my folks garage while I worked in a steel mill one summer. My mom sat at the upholstery shop and watched them make the seats, top and tonneau. That went away with our first daughter, for whom we bought an '82 320i when she was 16 for $1,500 with 150K on it. I was so impressed they used compression rather than friction lock washers, we switched to buying old BMW's for ourselves.Both our daughters started with 320's, and are having strokes dad is defecting to an Audi. Thanks for the support! Yeah, there are definite downsides to having a modified daily. The 1.8t is thankfully pretty reliable compared to some of audis other tuner friendly engines. I agree though, the lack of space with the vr6 definitely makes it harder to work on.

In Germany the Prices of the 225 and 3.2 are skyrocketing … a 3.2 manuel will set you back 15k+++ €. A good 225 in a nice colour will start at 7-8 and will go up to 15k! The high horsepower builds in Germany are all based on the 3.2 Vr6. There are streetlegal turbo Kits that give you 500 hp and 500 Nm for like 8k. The TT Mk1 is the best and cheapest platform to run a reliable and good looking 500 HP, Manuel, 4wd 👍🏻
