I’m curious how much the London series skews the numbers for St Louis and Chicago

My guess would have been teams in the corners of the country - Mariners, Red Sox , Marlins, Padres. And with everything being more spread out in the west it would be a west coast team. The only thing that would help is if they went to a minor league type schedule where you play a six game series every week and then have a travel day. However that wouldn't work with the current MLB schedule. Of course the players travel first class and they're young so it probably doesn't bother them that much.

Are teams traveling more miles now that all the teams play each other?

Good video Brodie! And before you had airline travel, the teams took trains. That's why the pre-1960 teams were pretty much restricted to the north east and upper midwest with the farthest west teams were St. Louis and Chicago, all a days travel or less on a train. And that's why we had the Pacific Coast League with the Padres, Angles, Stars, Seals, Oaks, Solons, Beavers and Rainers. Then the Giants and Dodgers moved west in ;57 and the whole thing went to hell in a handbasket. I still wear my old worn out Oaks jersey to baseball games much to the delight and amusement of the old guys like me who wander around the colosseum doing "guest services." I never pass up the opportunity to stop chat with these guys (while both of us catch our breaths), but alas, they are dying off like I will one of these days and hopefully my great grandkids generation will pick up the old jerseys and wear them in rememberance of the "good old days." Not much as changed, the west coast teams by definition will travel further in a season than the east coast teams and I don't think that MLB management, still headquartered in the Northeast don't give a s*** about the west coast. But that's another rant for another day. As a final comment, it will be interesting to see how games are televised with each team. My bet is that the West Coast will come in at last. But then I'm biased, being a 4th generation Oakland native. And how many of you guys know the Oakland Oaks played in Emeryville?

Crazy that the Padres and Angels made it to MLB
@Old_Foxy_Grandpa
@Old_Foxy_Grandpa Год назад
@@adanalyst6925 The MLB Padres and Angels that are in MLB are totally different organizations than the old PCL clubs. The entire PCL went under when the Giants and Dodgers moved west. And airline travel made the whole thing work. The expansion clubs just picked the names. The Giants, Dodgers and Athletics were early east coast clubs that moved west. That's why we don't have MLB clubs called the Seals and Oaks. The Seattle Rainiers were owned by the Rainier brewing company up in that neck of the woods. I think, if I remember right, the Portland Lucky Beavers were owned by a beer company as well. Much like the original NFL clubs that were owned by packing housed in Green Bay and the Staleys that was owned by a starch manufacturer. You know the Staleys as Da Bears. They moved to Chicago from downstate when the Chicago Cardinals moved to St. Louis and finally to Phoenix. And our beloved A's started in Boston, moved to Philly, Kansas City and Oakland and probably Lost Wages is next. Professional sports teams are somewhat nomadic in that respect.

How many miles are the East coast teams traveling this year?
@OliverSolorzano

Does anyone know if any teams travel by team bus in the East Coast?? Philadelphia to New York is roughly a 1.5 hour drive. Do the Mets, Yankees, Phillies take a bus into Philadelphia or New York?? Same with Baltimore, Philadelphia and Washington DC. Baltimore to Philadelphia is also a roughly 1.5 drive. And Baltimore and Washington are less than an hour apart. They gotta take a team bus, since it’s a short hop. I doubt that the Nationals are taking a bus to New York, but they’ll likely take a bus to Baltimore since it’s close. I’ve seen that the Angels, Dodgers and Padres take a bus to each location if they’re playing one another. I don’t know how they do it, as well as the other leagues. However I know that MLS teams take buses if their next destination is within 2 hours.

I'm surprised the Mariners will travel more than the A's, since they're further away than everyone else, but I guess their interleague travel schedule is less than the A's.

But Oakland still has some teams close to them unlike Seattle which has the closest team being the A's.

Why such a mismatch of travel
@jameserickson5372
@jameserickson5372 Год назад
Everyone is playing everybody else. A lot of the central teams are nearby each other, causing minimal travel. The central is also right in between the coasts, and they'll usually hit these coasts multiple cities at a time to cut down on travel expenses

@@jameserickson5372 I don't understand a' s are in Oakland n travel to Tampa bay then Baltimore. Y not play marlins
@jameserickson5372
@jameserickson5372 Год назад
@Jesus M I'm thinking because they can only do a couple cities at a time without the trip being too long. Also, and I'm not sure if this is the case in Florida, but in metro areas that have multiple teams, they are almost always home at opposite times, making it harder for them to schedule it like this. I agree though, it is weird and is probably something that should be looked at by MLB to make it a little more fair.
