Marc, can you please stop doing all these quizzes? I really don't care how well you do on a quiz and I doubt anyone else does. It's so boring. It's also very obvious you just keep typing in random names over and over again until the quiz tells you that you guessed the right one. A real quiz means you only make 1 guess and then you find out which ones you got wrong at the end. You're basically figuring out which answers are the right answers by guess and check before you even move on to the next question. That's basically cheating. Everyone could do it that way. The only difference is there is a timer but I promise you no one cares how fast you can cheat to get answers on a quiz. It's very boring and pretty lame. Please stop. Thanks.
The braves deadline was actually really underrated, and I’m glad Marc noticed this as well. Although they didn’t get any huge blockbuster guys, they got several really solid everyday players and gave up almost nothing
How the Rockies aren't selling pretty much every year is amazing. They have an awful farm system, they aren't competing, and they for whatever reason decided not to sell to try and build up said terrible farm system
i feel for u...coming from a rangers fan. we should've blown it up a few years ago...but i think we're finally trending in the right direction after the trades this year
I think the Mariners deadline aligned with the rebuild plan that was put in place, they don’t want to deviate from the plan like their old general managers have and that is why I think the Mariners have been so bad over the past 20 years… it is because of general managers who had no balls to stick to a plan and went out and tried to buy a team
Diehard Mariners fan here. It's pretty crazy to me people being critical of their deadline thinking they needed to be aggressive buyers. The prospect capital that they would have needed to deal for 1-3 years of what would amount to marginal upgrades is insane. This team is a fringy playoff team at best that has 5-7 years of impact talent coming through the minor leagues. That coupled with how impressive Toro has been for them since the acquisition makes a C+ grade almost seem like you've been listening to Jon Heyman more than you've been watching what's happening in Seattle.
I respectively disagree when it comes to my favorite team the Mariners. Toro was a great pickup a guy who was among the Astros top prospects just a year ago and he's under team control for years for a reliever who is going to be gone in 3 monthes. Replaced the closer with a better closer and gave up one prospect of note and this closer is under control for 3 years and filled out or rotation without giving up much. I'd say it's closer to a B+ grade.
relatively new fan here, was this a crazy deadline? like the cubs and nats just completely offloaded their rosters? The Yankees and dodgers somehow got even better... I was shocked to see all of these names on the move
In baseball at the deadline, there are buyers and sellers. Teams that are buyers are teams that have a chance to contend for the playoffs and possibly go far. Sellers are shitty teams that will probably not get into the playoffs this year or maybe not even any time soon. So sellers might try to trade their best players to get really good prospects that are going to be stars in the future. Because if your team sucks, there is no reason to keep the good players on your teams. And of course buyers are teams that are good and want to become even better to try and win the World Series so they might trade their best prospects for stars to help them win now. In conclusion, gaining elite prospects will make your team elite in the future, gaining elite stars will help your team win a WS now
It's pretty rare to see so many big name players move around. With the cubs it was more of a matter of time and everyone watching them so that's less of a surprise but players like scherzer and turner both well known as steady player's was a big surprise. It's such a crazy deadline because it's a cumulation of so many years wonder and debate. Nearly all the players were main players for their clubs. Synonymous with those teams for so many. I know I'm not going to get used to Rizzo in pinstripes since he was the face of the scrappy team for so long
This was one of the craziest trade deadline years ever. Part of that is because it was a HARD DEADLINE. Previous years teams could still swap players through wavers until the end of August. So this year teams knew they had to try to get everything done by the deadline. This was part of what caused the craziness plus you had the Cubs and Nationals who won WS recently and had a lot of big names with expiring contracts. Its all about 💰. The Cubs had a bunch of great infielders come up at the same time so their team control ends at the same time so they leave at the same time.
Looking back in hindsight the Braves were an A+. The guys they brought in literally got them a World Series championship. And they really didn't give up much of anything at all. Also pie in the face for downplaying Eddie Rosario and up talking Richard Rodriguez
Getting rid of Montero is an A+ move. Goodbye and good riddance. Scott Servais cannot trot out our second biggest run differential destroyer anymore when he is no longer on the team.
Adam Cimber also fits the "deadline" qualifications, and has only given up 1 run and 7 total baserunners in 12.1 IP with the Jays. He's definitely the very solid bullpen arm you were talking about wanting to see us get
@@thesenate5245 And they would’ve only had him for 20 more innings then probably would have lost him in free agency🤷🏽♂️ I’d rather take Toro for three years than Graveman for the rest of the year
100%, this is what I noted in my comment. Now that they are transitioning to competing, there is no reason for AA to accept “eh” deals on players just because. These guys provide more value on the team than a prospect would.
yeah this dude must not follow the tigers very much or just doesn't know what he's talking about when it comes to them. he said the tigers should've traded schoop and soto and they extended schoop lmao and most likely will keep soto when they contend soon
Mariners deserve a higher grade, we filled a big hole at second base with toro while only giving up graveman who we weren’t gonna keep after this year, we got a solid reliever in castillo to replace graveman, and adding tyler anderson gives us more depth in our rotation so no more bullpen days
I’m going to be honest, your approach of “win now or full rebuild” is a bit shortsighted for a lot of these teams with poor grades. For example, the Orioles don’t have many talented veterans on expiring contracts to trade off, they already traded those types of players. Instead, they have cheap guys they’re letting get playing time. To give them a poor grade because they didn’t sell of decent controllable guys looses perspective of trying to develop players. This is even more apparent with the Tigers. You provided them with a poor grade because they didn’t sell off all their pieces. Why would they? They’re 26-14 since June 14, that’s only behind Houston and Seattle in the AL. They’re in a transition year from rebuilding to playing competitive baseball. It would make zero sense to trade off the talented controllable players you noted, like Soto. Even when it comes to an expiring contract in Schoop, he provides more to the team in terms of production and culture than a middling prospect would. Just my thoughts.
Blue Jays - We picked up a front end starter in Berrios, 4 quality relievers if you include Adam Cimber, and a left handed bat in Corey Dickerson. And to do it we didn't give up anyone off the main roster other than an expendable Joe Panik. Our top prospects sent for Berrios were someone with only 250 PAs in the minor leagues with no elite defensive position, and a pitcher with a 5.76 ERA in Double A. That's an A from me!
I can agree with what you’re saying for the tigers, but not about Soto he’s young and someone that could be a legit bullpen arm and that’s what the tigers need.
Mark...as much as I hate to admit it...you pretty much nailed it. I can't think of any grades I didn't agree with. The Cubs got great return for big name rentals who have seen better days. Bryant's numbers are a little inflated by his hot start this year. As a Giants fan, of course I'm excited but they gave up 2 really good prospects. At least it wasn't Bart & Wade like the early rumors said...
As a Reds fan, I can say I was excited to see the Reds acquire both Cessa and Givens, as they both have sub 3.00 ERAs, although I would’ve loved to see a trade for Story or Merrifield.
Agree. As a Reds fan myself, I don't think it would have been worth the cost of Story or Merrifield, but would have loved to get either. I love Farmer, but he ain't a SS for a championship team.
I'll give you Trevor Story and Jon Gray but the Rockies control German Marquez for 3 more years after this one. I can definitely see keeping him if the offers are underwhelming. One player who they REALLY should have traded was C. J. Cron. At least Story and Gray have probably done enough to get QO's.
I was disappointed that my Padres didn’t get another starting pitcher but Adam Frazier is one of the best bats in baseball, Daniel Hudson strengthens our Bullpen which is already the best, and Jake Marisnick brings offensive/outfield versatility
Orioles shouldn’t be an F at all. Their big prospects are getting closer to coming up and the “bullpen”‘players you are taking about are not UFAs. When players have years of team control left, you don’t move them just to move them.
My Giants didn’t do much, but what we did do was important, Kris Bryant fills in a hole in our roster. The only thing we could have done better was maybe going all in on Scherzer, but our starting pitching is already great, and our bullpen is one of the best in baseball
I really liked Luis Cessa a bullpen arm. He’s been one of the under-rated guys in that Yankee pen. Unfortunately, he was the price the Yankees had to pay to get the Reds to eat Justin Wilson’s money for this season, get a little wiggle room under the luxury tax threshold (turns out they didn’t need it-the Rangers, the Cubs and the Angels, respectively, are paying all of the players they sent the Yankees way for the rest of the season). It was also about making sure that Wilson wouldn’t be on the books for the Yankees next season, as he has a player option for 2022. This move was made on Wednesday at about 1 a.m., probably when Brian Cashman wasn’t sure if he was going to be able to get the Rangers and the the Cubs to eat all of the money for Rizzo and Gallo. If he had known the luxury tax wasn’t going to be an issue, I like to think they would have held onto Cessa because, no offense to Holmes and Rodriguez, but they didn’t pick up any bullpen arm as good as he is. Of course, these are the guys who are running Brett Gardner out there every day in center field and just sent down Greg Allen….I can’t justify that move. Brett Gardner needs to retire and Allen should be in center field every day for the Yankees, unless they’re starting Stanton-Gallo-Judge, left to right. Even then, he should come in for defense late in the game.
Was expecting the Braves to be selling but I was pleasantly surprised with the moves they made. Got some nice outfield bats which we badly needed and a solid bullpen arm which has been much needed all year. Got enough to remain competitive in the NL east while Acuna is out (among all the other injuries we’ve had this year)
I personally think my red sox did decent in the deadline... they traded away a subpar performing chavis to get a decent bullpen arm in Robles and the traded away a prospect for Schwarber who when he comes back will be an additional lefty power bat to go along with Devers... they also picked up delino deshields Jr after the deadline who will most likely be on the active roster. They still didn't address their starters who are all struggling. They could have used another solid starter to fill in until Sale comes back in a couple weeks.
@@MontaEllisSupremacy ur actually wrong, THEY HAD SO MUCH LEVERAGE!! They had a bunch of good players in a buyer’s market! They could’ve gotten a MASSIVE haul
@@WillTheTrainFan oh 100% my comment was misconstrued. I just meant that obviously ur not getting what you’d get for those guys in a vacuum. And as the deadline nears I’m sure GMs say u have to trade him anyway just take this.. but even worst worst worst case it still brings you much more than what you ended up getting
Why does every RU-vidr think that every team below .500 should sell every one of their players on a 2 years deal or less. Teams with promising top prospects might look to resign key contributors on losing seasons.
This is easily my favorite RU-vidr because I can rely on content and every video is always enjoyable as that’s why I try to like as many videos as possible
As a Reds fan I’m still happy with our trade deadline. We improved our bullpen and other than that our team has been really really good. Kyle Farmer has shown he can play SS for the time being and Moustakas will be back in days. Our #1 priority is making sure Castellanos resigns and by paying Trevor Story 8 million to put up stats similar to farmer feels like a waste of money that we need to save.
Agree. As a Reds fan myself, I don't think it would have been worth the cost of Story or Merrifield, but would have loved to get either. I love Farmer, but he ain't a SS for a championship team.
Word on the street is that the Dodgers are willing to offer Lionel Messi a multi million dollar contract! They should be able to pull this off and still stay under the luxury tax!
The Tigers didn’t trade Soto and Cisnero because they see them as the anchors to the backend of their bullpen. They also see them as two key pieces for challenging for at least a wild card spot next year. Now on to Johnathan Schoop who they didn’t move because they hope to sign him to at least a two year deal next offseason.
Fair grade for the Reds. They did the minimum. Not too upset about it, because our farm system is so top heavy. Would hate to see one of our studs moved, considering Greene, Lodolo, and Barrero, should all help the team next year. Also, Farmer is red hot and a good glove at SS, so not sure Story would have been an improvement. Their moves mean I dont have to watch Hendrix, Brach, or Doolittle pitch in close games. I'll take it
As a Twins fan…. Hard to see Cruz and Berrios go but so happy we got Martin, Woods and Ryan could be studs only wish we got rid of Donaldson for contract purposes, such a sad season for them but they had a good deadline
Mariners deadline was weird. Apparently they wanted Toro for years, and this is how they got him. They decided to go for people they have control over to build for the future more than the present. Kinda punted on this year.
Who's watching this when each and every outfielder the Braves acquired went on to be crucial pieces to their world series run? AA is the God Emperor of the bargain bin.
Trevor Story, by this year's statistics, wouldn't really an improvement over the Reds current shortstop, Kyle Famer. Their stats are very similar. As for their bullpen additions, all the Reds fans I've talked to (including myself) are happy with the trades. Didn't give up much, and got 3 guys who will immediately boost the bullpen, which is by far their biggest weakness.
As a Red Sox fan it would be easy to say their efforts were underwhelming and they were, but I don't think Bloom had much to work with in comparison to other teams. I think ownership kept tight purse strings again and what few specs the Sox had were not comparable to what was available on the market...i.e Barrios for Martin and Woods-Richardson...Barrios would have been ideal for Boston but TO had better to offer. Sox are in trouble long term where pitching is concerned as they really only have Houck in their system and the FA class the couople years just doesn't match up with the philosophy they are now using.
As a Nats fan, GM Mike Rizzo did well. He is a scout at heart. Josiah Gray started last night's game against The Phillies. He went 5 IP, but tired in the 5th. Gray was relieved by Mason Thompson. Not bad.
Looking at purely what they added in the deadline isn't the whole story for the rangers, the rangers also gave teams a ton of money too. We gave 4 million to the Phillies and 6 million to the Yankees. We didn't get any legitimate promising prospects back. It was not a good deadline we undersold very much
I dont agree with a few remarks about the Tigers. This team is not rebuilding any more. We've got our young core of players. Tork and Greene should be up next year and Mize, Skubal and Manning are already making an impact for us. Also trading Gregory Soto wouldnt make any sense. He's gonna be huge for our bullpen the next couple years. The only player I feel they could've moved is Schoop but only for the right return, I think he'll be back in Detroit next year.
He doesn't understand that trading Marquez would literally require getting a randsom in return. He's their ace and they have him on a team friendly contract for a number more years. You aren't trading that for prospects, it's too hard to find an ace in Colorado.
Ngl I’m a Yankees fan and didn’t like Joey Gallo. I liked him as a player but I didn’t think he fit our team. We already have a bunch of righty Joey gallos who strike out 35% of the time
I legit feel bad for Rockies fans. I have no idea how not moving expiring contracts for whatever you can get is going to help them. This is why they are in that perpetual limbo of being bad but not bad enough to get anything of value through the draft or trading your one-year rentals. They’re like Cleveland except taken to the extreme.
