A review comparing the Honda CB750 Hornet and the Honda CB650R, with Russ from RoadcraftNottingham, to determine which motorcycle we think is better.
Riding the motorbikes back to back we give you our thoughts on the power, riding modes, braking efficiency, handling, seating positions, suspension, engine braking, and overall comfort for riding these motorcycles in a variety of settings (town, country and high speed motorcycling).
The Honda CB750 Hornet is a super fun parallel twin cylinder engine, nimble and powerful motorcycle, with lots of extras, on a comparatively light motorbike. The Honda CB650R is a smooth in-line 4 cylinder engine, in a compact frame, with plenty of power, and incredibly well tuned fuel injection. Each bike has its own character, but which is better? Take a look and let us know what you think!
Thanks for watching, please comment, like, subscribe & share.
See you soon,
Leanna

Well, I think you hit on something here with this format. This is an absolute gem of a video! The side-by-side riding comparison by two people, man/woman, taller/shorter, on the two bikes and honestly sharing your thoughts and feelings whilst riding just gave me a much better idea about these bikes than the myriad of bike review videos on these bikes that I've watched from the litany of solo RU-vid riders.

Sub and like from me.... I can answer this. I just traded my CB650R for a new Hornet..... with SC Project Can New. I can confirm at least in my humble opinion that the Hornet is way better. Both bikes are evenly priced within reason... Many have complained that the new hornet is a twin rather than the 4 cylinder it used to be. The new Honda twin is beyond belief... it doesn't need 4 cylinders. I enjoyed my CB650R for 3 years. However, it's heavy and slow to respond. The hornet is a dream. Great realist review . Thankyou

Great review! I loved the 650 when I did training on it with you guys, loved it. However now I have my Hornet I'm not sure I'd go back. The new software update makes the navigation display really nice too, with google maps showing turns on the dash.

Hi Leanne I Love the video as usual. I like the way you two talk to each other about the bikes as you ride. I think its a bit better than when you do solo just because of the banter and the comparisons you both make about how you both feel on each bike.. maybe we might see more of this 🤔🤣😂 stay safe stay healthy your stalker Kev 😉

I've just swapped my CB650 for a Hornet. All you've said is exactly what I've found in comparison. Certainly more vibes. and keeping a steady low speed much easier in a higher gear on the 650. I'm pretty sure, when I measured, that the bars on both were the same width. Thanks for the vid. Safe riding.

I'm still on my CB300R due to my rather unusual circumstances. Both of these bikes will probably be considered when the time comes to move up. I think I like the idea of the CB650R more than the Hornet though, being more refined and smoother. Was really good to see them ridden back to back by two experienced instructors.

@@motorcyclelessonsuk Thanks so much Leanna, my present instructor is way more strict than the one we did CBT with, he said if he was doing it I would scrape a pass. Lolz, been riding motorcycles since I was 14, but its one thing to ride another to ride to pass a test, watching all vids with much eagerness and I really thank you for making them!😘

@@RoobieRoo2 you're welcome. It sounds to me like you have a great attitude. We see quite a few people who have been riding for years who are over confident and actually take longer to train because they don't take on the procedural elements quite as well as someone who is effectively a "blank slate" and wants to learn everything thoroughly. Well done for taking a sensible approach, training isn't just for the test, it's to keep riders safe for life 😊

i didn't testride the 650R so can't really comment, but the hornet is the one i've gone for due to virtually every reviewer on YT raving about how much fun & flickable it is, and as someone who spends most of his time on b-roads and lanes thought it would be a better fit for my needs

CB650R engine is smoother than butter and it looks like a work of art. Hornet looks a bit meh but it’s probably better at commuting whereas the CB650R is THE pick for spirited riding.

I passed my Mod 2 earlier this month on a CB650R after doing the DAS at my local Honda Approved riding school. I too got pins and needles in my right hand quite a lot; interesting that I’m not alone in that. I’m currently pondering what to buy as my first “big bike”; I went into the Honda dealer my riding school was attached to, and they said I wasn’t allowed to test ride anything until I’ve had my licence for a full year. Seems a bit counter productive. Is that normal?

I made my decision with my money and I picked the CB650R. The Hornet just looks cheap like they cut corners. Look at the engine and swing arm. It looks like a budget bike compared to the much more premium engine and swing arm on the 650. I managed to get a great deal on a 2022 CB650R brand new.

I am agree and I have a dilema which one to pick. Over all, I think unfortunately the Hornet is better.
@The.JZA.
@The.JZA. 3 месяца назад
@@jorgecastaneda6639 Depends on what you define as better. The hornet does have all the modern tech like RBW throttle with up and down QS so that’s definitely a plus but I don’t think the TFT makes any difference, personally I think the LCD on the CB650R looks better, sleeker, cooler but minor. The Hornet has more torque so if you are a “lazy” rider who likes to cruise in high gears then it’s better but ultimately the 650 has the same/more power so as long as you use the gearbox, it’s still very fast and the way the power climbs through the revs is very exhilarating. Also even at low rpm the inline 4 engine feels smooth and torquey. Maybe not as much torque as the hornet but honestly it’s plenty and still accelerates swiftly and you can also cruise at low rpm, say when in traffic, at very low rpm and the engine is smooth which I don’t think you could say the same about a 750cc twin with huge pistons thumping up and down. Also I’ve seen a lot of reviews that say the hornet is harder suspension and is a lot less comfortable to ride. I personally think the 650 suspension is perfectly balanced. It’s sporty but forgiving and comfortable. It’s definitely not a couch, it’s still firm but soft enough so that it’s not annoying to ride any time you see a bump. Also it’s a cosmetic thing but I think having a 160mm wide rear tyre looks a bit weak so I prefer the more traditional 180mm rear on the 650. And then there’s the looks. In my opinion it’s a no brainer. The 650 looks amazing whereas the 750 just looks generic and boring and kinda cheap in some ways. I want a bike that I look back at when I’m walking away and the CB650R brings a grin to my face every time I see it and from all angles. It’s a fantastic looking bike with a staunch, brawler kinda look while still looking sporty as well. The hornet looks like a generic Japanese naked sports bike and as I mentioned before, the engine is bland which is a huge downer for me. Look at Hondas 650 and 500 engines. They put effort into making the casings look nice and cool but the 750 engine is a black box with smooth faces. It looks utterly generic and honestly I wouldn’t spend my hard earned cash on something that boring even if it does have good torque and power. To each their own and I’m sure you will love either one when you get it. I love my CB650R and I’m going for a ride on it soon. It’s a sunny Saturday here. I’ve done 2,500km on it so far and still love it and have no complaints whatsoever. Its brilliant. Even when I have my girlfriend on the back it still rides beautifully and I don’t even notice a difference in handling with her on the back. It really is fantastic.

I want to go from France to Spain, on the Hornet many guys are doing this already. And last one, did it consumes about 5l/100 km ore more? Thanks a lot. @@jorgecastaneda6639 I have done some long rides. The longest was about 3.5 hours but I didn’t have a passenger for that one. The longest I have done with a passenger was about 1.5 hours and it was fine. My bike has been tuned so the fuel consumption is quite high unfortunately. I only get about 16km/l which is about 6.25L/100km. If you look at Fuelly, most people get 20-21km/L.

The main problem for me with 4's is the weight, they're generally darn heavy. I'm biased in favour of Hornet, in sport mode I think it's faster than the 650r.
