It's no secret that pretty much every engine in the Rev Awdry's Railway Series was based on a real-life vehicle, but which ones still exist today? Which ones were scrapped? Time to find out!
I accidentally put Pug's status as survived, despite saying in the voice over that he was scrapped. My voice is the right version, not what you see on screen, lol.
If thomas came out around the same time the E2s were build, i think ppl wouldve preserved them, since the thomas series unironically helped some engines get preserved.
I mean, the first Thomas book was published 20 years before all the E2's were withdrawn and scrapped. And there's the question of what it would even do in preservation since there's plenty of other locomotives that do everything the E2 can offer and more
@@Iggyslime8910 Yes, Godred was the only one not to survive - although Culdee made up a story about another loco ("King Harry"?) gradually being dismantled for parts until there was nothing left.
I actually made a video similar to this one, albeit with almost every character (shameless plug?) I noticed a few characters were missing from here. Niel, Alice and Mirabel were the ones I noticed immediately. Regardless this is a great video (and series) and I think you did a very good job. Also Total Drama music FTW!!
Yes, Awdry worked in a few puns like that - Sir Handel is based on Sir Haydn on the Talyllyn Railway, Handel and Haydn both being composers. Similarly Stanley being a Baldwin is a joke about Stanley Baldwin, who was British Prime Minister before WW2. (Incidentally, Stanley is not named in the book in which he appears and is only named in "The Island of Sodor: Its People History and Railways" and on Awdry's "Mid Sodor" layout).
Would you consider doing a list based on the magazine exclusive characters? (there is a shocking amount of characters that only appear in the magazines. A lot of them are one-off builds according to the wiki, but some of them have actual bases.)
Fundamentally enough the whole Jinty and Pug thing makes this interesting Cause in my headcanon at some point Jinty would be bought as the 100th Knapford station pilot (cause how many engines have started from knapford shunter to running a branch line??), because Percy knew him and Pug, that’s why TFC bought Jinty since he had some experience on Sodor by now…however it was too late for Pug…Leading Jinty down a depression for many years as he wished Pug could’ve been saved
For people thought that one engine from the mountain railway it was not scrap and i forgot the name the engine fell off the cliff and it was put in the back of the shed he was used for other pieces
Interesting video - just a couple of comments: 1) It would have been helpful to have arranged the locos in the order they appear in the books, and to have put up a caption saying which book they were in - there were several at the beginning I didn't recognise. 2) The music really doesn't add anything to the video.
Thanks for the feedback. Having a bit more info about which book they were in would definitely be handy. I add music because I hate having silence behind my voice
What? I completely disagree with your second point. Music and soundtracks give more life to the video. It also drowns out some unwanted background noise that may be present when doing a voice over. Yeah they don’t add anything in terms of facts and information (like this almost every other video on the internet) but it’s nice to listen to and could potentially keep viewers engaged. Sorry for the little tangent there 😅. That particular statement was a little strange to me imo. But I actually agree with your first statement of arranging the characters in order of appearances.
@@giantfightingroboto TBH it wasn't so much the presence of the music, as that perhaps it wasn't the right music in that distracted from rather than complemented what was being said.
The fact awdry is dead for some reason and his ocs are this character and wilbert and for some reason the engine awdry is scrapped irl. 2:27 For some reason I would find it funny that culdee fell engines and alled greedy, 98642, 87546, 1020, bear, and the green engine from a shed for edward had been in this video same with the second red engine and flying thistle 4:05 Famous rip godred in the stories an real life, isabel was supposed to be in the model series as Oliver's coach but then they removed her so they decided to keep toad 6:03 fun fact neil is scrapped in real life and the railway series stories as being over 150 years old he met skarloey but then died after meeting him so skarloey is the oldest surviving engine.
I’m surprised you didn’t use a picture of the real Wilbert when talking about Wilbert & Sixteen. Like Stepney, Wilbert is a real life Hunslet Austerity 0-6-0 from the Dean Forest Railway named after Awdry who was president of the railway.
Pip and emma will die due to being flqttened by a petrochemical train hauled by a secondhand SD70ACE having all of the tonnage behind it on Corredor interoceano 3:42 correction : boco survived not D5701
@@giantfightingroboto D5501, D282, D31120, and possibly Percy's friends, the Class 52, Jinty and Stanley. Also 10751 was the headcode number for the BR 127 and 1020 and D199's numbers are fictional.
@@Jetthehawk1994 are you on about the characters themselves not surviving? Because that's not what this video is about. It's about the real life engines.
