Which Ratchet & Clank should be ported to PC next? (& Rift Apart PC/Steam Deck Review!) 

I said most of what I was going to say in this comment at the end of the video, but for those that maybe scroll down early Ratchet PSP video is well underway! I didn't anticipate when I said I'd be starting that at 100k...that I'd hit 100k that following week. The Wii video threw everything off (in a good way!), because that was just a quick turnaround video I was dropping before July/August were set to be the busiest months maybe of my entire life so far, with moving, The Charity Room event, a planned trip in between those two things, and video deadlines. (And then Rift PC got announced for release the same week as the Twisted Metal show I'd had circled on my calendar for months, throwing it off even more!) I'm just working on interviews and whatnot now to put the development story together for the PSP games (if possible), but the retrospective part, or some cut of it, should be up for Patrons in September. Hopefully the entire video drops for everybody next month too, but I'm not gonna promise that, knowing how long the R&C stuff always takes! Much love 💙

Porting the future trilogy to PS5 and PC would be a massive win for the franchise

A fixed version of the HD collection and Deadlocked on PC would be a dream come true for me.

I think at this point, the biggest chance for a PC port of the PS2 games is a fan decompilation, like what happened with Jak and Daxter

I'd kill for a PC port of the original trilogy and Deadlocked, but I do realize it'd be unrealistic given the amount of effort required compared to the potential revenue for Sony. IMO the best possible "realistic" result would be sorta like a hybrid between the Spyro/Crash remakes and the Halo Anniversary remasters, the actual games being remade from scratch (faithfully to the originals but not exact) while leaving things like the music and voice acting (and the story, by extension) mostly untouched. Almost certainly won't ever happen but hey, I can dream.

A PC version of a crack in time or the og trilogy would be neat .

an outsourced Future collection to a studio like Nixxes would be awesome, honestly the only graphical upgrade that's really necessary is higher res textures and maybe more detailed lighting, although if they upgraded the classic engine to use PBR materials that'd be pretty cool

I feel like the HD collection of the first 3 games would be good. Especially if they threw in Deadlocked so more people can play it.

Before having watched the video, I would just like to say that the better question would be: Should all the other Ratchet and Clank games be ported to PC? And the obvious answer is YES!

Worth noting: With the Steam Input API bindings, there's no "half-pull" action for the triggers, only "full-pull". (This is an oversight on Insomniac/Nixxes' part that they can fix, not an issue with the Steam Input API itself.) To get the most out of the weapons (in particular the Burst Pistol's precise fire mode and the Drillhound's lock-on), you have to change the DualSense "Adaptive Triggers" option to "None" in-game (despite not using a DualSense gamepad), or disable Steam Input for the game if you have a DualShock 4, DualSense, or Xbox gamepad. That said, the Steam Input API bindings include an optional gyro aim feature. Having set that up to activate while holding the aim trigger, I barely move the camera with the right stick at all mid-combat. If you like gyro aim, that's a point in favour of the Steam version compared to the PlayStation 5 or Epic Games versions.

I was honestly expecting the movie game to come before Rift Apart, so I was surprised and excited to see RA arrive

If anything, 2016 would be the simplest to port, but I'd love to see them just do it chronologically.

I would like either a collection port of the future games, or a better done port of the classic trilogy and Deadlock so that I don't have to try to hunt down a ps2 version

i've been holding off for a better price for rift apart on steam, maybe in the winter sale. it makes me hopeful we may get the ps2 and ps3 games on pc someday.

Konami has shown how porting the HD collections from Ratchet and all the other amazing PS2 franchises to PC is not only do able but lucrative as well.

Honestly? All of them, it's a relatively small franchise. Port the HD Trilogy and Deadlocked HD in like January or something and a bit later on down the line the Future saga. Spin-offs like Size Matters, SAC, All 4 One and Full Frontal Assault idk, I wouldn't mind then being accessible to people as well, just don't see how they could be dropped. Maybe something similar to Sonic Origins Plus, include Size Matter and SAC as an expansion to the HD Trilogy and All 4 One and Full Frontal Assault as an expansion to A Crack In Time.

I played through the entire game twice, and now I am playing through it the third time, just for fun of it. I absolutely love it. It's not flawless, but it's just so nice and fluffy to play! I am lucky to have no crashes, although I had quite a few issues with assets not loading fast enough, performance drops and scripts not triggering. But even with all that, it's a great game. Entirely worth playing. On another note-- I played Rift Apart on mouse and keyboard and the game feels like it was made for mouse and keyboard from the getgo. I also tried to play it on Steam Deck and it performs just bad. I don't know what it was but it felt so not-right to me. I definitely prefer it on PC.

Can I just get the whole series downloaded and playable in my head at all times, thanks Insomniac luv u ❤

I'd say all the old games with mod support if you want to go crazy without running into problems. And keeping the replay value up.

I'd love a port of the HD Collection, I've been waiting for years..

I've been thinking of getting this game on Deck for the portability and gyro aiming. Given how good the implementation of steam input were in the Spider-Man games, I expect this port to do that just as well.

Finally getting Ratchet to PC, and getting to play yet another Ratchet game feels so good... Only ever had Ratchet 2 and a demo for Ratchet 3... Insomniac did this so well, and the studio i forget the name of rn that made the port.. Those guys are amazing for doing it. I'm hoping that we get all the other games ported to PC, or maybe, even remade from the ground up, and done with enough time and care instead of all the time crunching they had to do twenty years ago..

The only R&C game I played was Size Matters on the PSP. Ive never played any other R&C game so having Rift Apart ported onto PC was a dream come true! I do hope they port more R&C games, it'd be so cool!

I'm sure if you use this with an m.2 with good read/write you might be able to circumvent those little loading hitches.

just imagine them remaking the og trilogy and maybe even Deadlocked (Deadlocked could even be added on later as dlc maybe??) in Rift Apart's engine, all the cut content from Up Your Arsenal could be restored and maybe even some cut content for Going Commando and the first game

I'm older, I grew up with PS1 Crash and Spyro in my preteens-earlyteens. I'm old enough that my first encounter with Genesis was when Sonic launched. No, I'm not dust in the wind old, yet.

I would be more than happy for any pc releases in the future. I have a old ps2 and really lived for the original trilogy plus deadlocked for quite some time when I was a kid. But i never played any of the ps3/4 games cause my ps3 which i bought used died quickly and i never got a console after that. I'm normaly a pc player so i never needed a console after that cause I only had one for coop games with friends back in the days. OG Trilogy or Deadlocked would be a must buy for me, but the newer titles that i never played would make a great addition for me. Least favorite would be the ps4 game but even that i would try out as a rewritten OG story. Long story short. I won't buy a console, but I love R&C. SO please give me PC ports and releases. The world is ready for Ratchet Deadlocked 2

It's great seeing certain brands that have been stock on a certain console be allowed on something else, it's weird but also very welcoming

I remember hearing earlier this year that Nixxes(the devs of the Spider-Man and Rift Apart PC ports) had started development on a remaster. Maybe a R&C Future collection might be that?

I couldnt wait for another port, got PS Now and was thourghly surprised of how smooth it ran. I also gave a good run at emulating tools of destruction and was able to finish it with crashes here and there

The best ones for story/availability reasons would've been Tools of Destruction & Crack in Time, since they tie in most important universe details along with giving access to best games of the series from PS3 era. Quest for Booty/Into the Nexus could either be made into additional levels for both or shortened into cutscenes.

I haven’t been able to get the emulated PS2 games to run all that smooth yet and it’s been almost a decade since I played the future games on my old PS3 (that stopped working in 2015), so when this dropped on PC it was a no-brainer, especially after having such a blast with Spider-Man and God of War PC as well this past year. I’ve paid and would still pay good money for working PC ports of my childhood favorites, and Rift Apart has been one of the highlights of my year after such a long hiatus from this series

I played Rift Apart on a (new and mostly empty) M2 SSD (and 6gb vram/16gb ram, if that matters), and it still took ~5 seconds for the dimensional level loads, which seemed to not be a thing on PS5 from gameplay videos on YT I've seen. Dunno if having RuneScape (rs3 at minimum settings, using ~1gb ram/0.5 gb vram) going on my 2nd monitor hurt it, or there's some optimization lacking, or if the game is intentionally stalled to be slower on PC, but it was definitely notable that the loads aren't as instant as on PS5 even with an SSD plugged straight into my motherboard on PC. As someone who grew up playing RnC from the first game up until Into the Nexus year after year (including the side games like Size Matters which I enjoyed a ton) before falling out of it due to moving to exclusively PC gaming at the end of the PS3/X360 era, I'd so love to play Going Commando, Up Your Arsenal, and Deadlocked many more times on PC with native ports without having to rely on emulators like PCSX2.

It'd probably be best to do a Master Chief Collection-style release, but in waves, like what they're doing with Metal Gear Solid. Give the HD PS2 Trilogy, then the PSP entries, then the PS3 era. That way people can buy the ones they want and it's not a confusing mess of "Which one do I start with going backwards?!" since each set is a complete arc. (And we all pretend the PS4 entry didn't happen.)

i intend to watch this video fully while im at work but i will go ahead and answer the question. and my answer is all of them except maybe the handheld variants i didn't play them so i have no opinion there.

I've been playing R&C for about 16 years now, and face lifting either (or please both) the original trilogy or the future saga would be wonderful. And please port the movement of RA with it 🤣Cause that's the only thing I miss in the old games now when I replay them.

I'd like the 2016 game on PC, as then I would be able to play the entire series with just a PS3 and a PC. In fact, I actually own the 2016 game! I don't have a PS4 though! (It was $3 at GameStop, I couldn't not buy it)

If possible, I would love Ps2 Collection on pc, even if Sony would absolutely love it if everyone forgot about them. Seems like Sony only wants to show off the most high budget, blockbuster games now. I doubt even the PS3 collection would have a shot on the PC.

I think they should do it from beginning to end while also rereleasing 4k 60fps versions on PS5. Do the Ratchet PS2 Trilogy (and Deadlocked) 1st then do the Future Trilogy (Quadrilogy?) then if they want the weird side games (All4One and FFA) do those and obv the PS4 Reimagining. I think what is most likely though is they port the PS4 game since they actually put work into patching that game for PS5 already. They really should at least sell old PS2 games on PC. They are being emulated anyways. Might as well make money off of them. (also i love having complete collections so also put the psp games and rerelease Ratchet Going Mobile!!!)

I want deadlocked back. First game I ever 100% and I feel like a lot of weapons could end up getting even more fun if they got updated to have new functions centered around the adaptive trigger system

I only recently realized that rift apart had released on PC, I played the original trilogy, as well as Tools, a Crack, and Nexus all on the original consoles. But I switched to PC when I went to college back in 2011 and while I still have my old consoles and games, I would love to get pc ports for those games, preferrably in order. I just played Rift for the first time last night and it felt great, I haven't enjoyed a game so much in years. It's not groundbreaking but it's something I had missed. The doom comparison hadn't occurred to me, i'm playing on the second hardest difficulty and it can be a little brutal. Mainly in the arena, that enforcer challenge took so many attempts, the enemy aiming almost felt unfair. It's crazy beacuse i'm not a huge fan of doom but I had a blast with that challenge and it felt amazing to beat it, might help that the main story missions aren't as brutal as that, while doom tends to maintain the difficulty througout.

I would love to see Up your arsenal, Size matters and deadlocked on pc as those games were my entry points into the franchise. But since the games i used to play on consoles which were exclusive to that console, and how all consoles have at least one exclusive franchise i stopped looking at all consoles, as they are only actually for gaming, as i grew up and became more jaded(?) with having to remember which titles go on which console, or not being super into any of them as i used to, the freedom to pick and chose where and how i enjoy the games have become more important for me. also not having to subscribe for anything is also required.

Something similar to what Rare did with Rare Replay on Xbox One would be amazing. A massive collection that includes all the Ratchet&Clank games in one package. Even if they would still be the same games with only resolution and framerate boosts, being able to replay them on modern systems would be amazing. The problem we have now is that the only games playable with a PS5 are Ratchet 2016 and Rift Apart. Yes, I know, a decent chunk of them can be played if you are a PS Plus Extra member via streaming, but to me, this is not a proper solution. For this reason, keeping a PS3 for a hardcore R&C fan is a must because 6 games were released on the PS3 and you can play all the PS2 games with the HD collection on PS3 as well.

both this game and the Spider-Man games perform great on PC, I was holding a pretty consistent 60 FPS (with some hicups on large areas like Savalia) on a 1050 ti, it confuses me why Insomniac has an amazingly optimized engine for PC, yet makes PS exclusive games

I want every Ratchet game playable natively on PS5 and PC. As a long-time fan, it feels a little weird that Ratchet is on a non-PlayStation platform, but I'm not against it at all.

15:50 I think the answer you are looking for is probably along the lines of Ratchet & Clank: Retooled Collection. Edit: Maybe even Ratchet & Clank: Origins, R&C: Legacy, R&C: Cranked/Qwarked Up Trilogy or R&C: Rip Ya a New One Collection? You know, something that makes sense with the franchise like Jak & Daxter: Precursor Collection or Sly Cooper: Family Legacy or something along those lines (Legacy of Thieves works great for Sly but dammit if Naughty Dog or Sony marketing didn't already snatch that up for Nate).

I’d honestly be totally okay with a quick and dirty uprez and port of the future trilogy. Especially with PlayStation’s recent pricing changes, having them locked behind game streaming hurts. As someone who got rid of their ps3 when going to college, I just really want a good way to play my favorite games again.

The OG games could do with a proper remaster, a "Definitive trilogy". Emulating the PS2 games is an absolute nightmare, i can get better consistent performance on rift apart than ratchet 1, many cant experience those games anymore

I know people hate the ratchet 1 remake but I honestly thought it was a good what if game, and that a melding of the remake and the original story would make the best version of ratchet 1.

Honestly... It should be Deadlocked with Online Co Op integration, that would be quite cool.

I has the same brightness thing as seen at 8:44 while running on my m.2 SSD. Im not sure if that is a loading problems thing or more of a shader generation problem.

Realistically I think 2016 is the most likely, and the OG trilogy the least due to how they were coded.
