Solar ships have the same maneuverability range as fighters NOT counting the bonus from the sails that every solar automatically comes with, AND their sails also recharge launch thrusters (slowly) and I think the pulse drive as well; and while fighters have higher damage potential, I frequently find, with the RNG, the solars spawning with just higher stats than fighters all around (at S-class, the fighter damage will be higher apparently according to the percentages on the wiki, but if you're hunting S-class, the upgrades will have you blasting things so quick on even shuttles or explorers the difference is negligible). Pretty much, aside from haulers (which handle like a brick), and shuttles (which just intentionally suck at everything), the "best ship" is which ever you think looks coolest. The upgrades will compensate for most any other shortcoming of your chosen ship.
That is very true. I would recommend choosing whatever ship looks best to you. I always like to throw in my personal opinion but i forget not everyone thinks my same way. Thanks for Watching!
I feel rather fortunate that I managed to purchase an S-Class Solar ship in the first 15-20 hours of the game, and I didn’t even realize what I had done. I spent most of my money on it, but I gotta say, I like it. Makes killing pirates pretty fun, and I don’t even have any fancy guns yet. IT’s not the prettiest ship, but it works!
I use a sentinel fighter. I can't use anything else... It's so responsive and fast. I have some insanely rare ships, but they're just for looks. The sentinel ship is the one I will choose for any mission, every single time.
I spent a couple hours at a trading post looking for a exotic ship, eventually giving up and going to scrap some cheap high tier shuttles I'd bought to get nanites. As I was scrapping them, the exotic flew right into the space station next to me. After staring at it for a few moments I ran over and bought it.
When scrapping ships for nanites, be sure to remove and store all ship technology in your inventory. Tech slots and tech upgrades don't contribute anything to thr final price. The only rhing affecting price is how many non-damaged non-tech inventory slots the ship has. Then take the packaged tech and sell them to a tech vendor in the space station. Voila, you earn like 400 nanites per upgrade. I liked your story about the exotic ship hunt. :D
I have a soft spot for Explorer type ships but I really think they need some sort of benefit outside of the hyperdrive range since that is next to obsolete when you've got an upgraded freighter hyperdrive
Tip for finding the best looking solars: To see what a solar's sails look like before you buy it, hang around outside a freighter or space station and watch the ships come in to dock. If you see one you like, you can follow it into the docking bay and buy it there.
I'd like to note that explorers with large nacelles also come with as many as 38 slots, and you get that hyperdrive boost. So among shuttles/explorers/haulers/fighters they are the best, IMO, because weapon upgrades will more than do the job for what you are likely to encounter, and you can use every inch of your upgraded hyperdrive range.
Honestly in NMS nearly all ships can do the job, I mainly use my Living ships since they are all maxed out to S class modules and can jump beyond 1400ly easily, they are a joy to fight with and everything else, one Hauler as storage cargo and the Exotics are the best choices imho, Solars. Explorers and Shuttles are basically useless now. Solars are good as well.
I do agree, if nothing else i at least recommend that everyone has 1 hauler and 1 living ship. Anything else is just personal preference on ship types.
I traded a C class wide body fighter ship for a pretty good C class solar sail ship and purchased a standard solar ship. Was that the right call? Probably not, but they look cool!
Great video. I really wish they would change some ship related stuff. They need to do something with shuttles or just remove them from the game all together. Make it harder to hit in combat and make them incredibly agile but easy to kill. I wish they would let us at least change coloring of the ships.
For the explorerships if they have these vertical "barrel" as wings (one side only is also possible) the cargospace is highly improved compared to the explorerships without those "barrel-type-wings". With that fact you can have a "haulertyped" ship with the benefits of the hyperdrive bonus (without the better haulershieldcapacity of course). And if you can get a S-Class variation of the barreltypewings-explorership the bonus for the hyperdrive range is even slightly higher compared to a lower shipclass variant like A-, B- or C-Class Types. The same gets here for all ships and its special bonus. The higher the Class the higher the bonus: Fighterclass -> DMG-Output; Haulerclass -> Shieldcapacity; Explorerclass -> hyperdrive range; (as far as ive came across and see that ingame)
Hi, I’ve been playing for about a week and on the surface this video is useful but what I’ve seen the community really needs are the actual stats for the ships and not just the % brackets. Eg, fighter dps = xxx min - yyy max. This would then lend weight to the %s that are given. 50% of an unknown value doesn’t mean much tbh. If an exotic has a lower % of dps than a fighter but the exotic does more base damage it could mean that the exotic does more damage than a fighter. Until we know these brackets of actual damage (before mods) it doesn’t help us understand many of these values. The internet is full of videos/chart stating all that you’ve just stated here. I was hoping (as a new player) that this video being 3 days old would offer more information. Sorry for the rather negative response but it does feel as though people really don’t understand this game very deeply. I want to know that if I buy a ship and it does 100dps (after stripping mods), is it worth upgrading it or buying a different ship with better base stats, as they will scale better with the % that you mention. Thanks. Hope you can shed some light on this because I’ve searched all over and asked lots of players and people don’t seem to know, in my short experience ofc. :)
No worries, I mainly was trying to show the base information for the ship types so people had a general idea of what type of ship would be best for what they like to do in the game. As far as the stats down to its most advanced form, I would highly recommend checking out this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RKGOxkKzXVE.html . Beeblebum is really great for the stats perspective of NMS and I didn’t want to feel like I’m stepping on his feet by simply repeating the info he stated in his video. I can also make a more advanced ship guide as well in the future, I just only have so much time to research and record/edit after work. I know that’s probably not the answer you were looking for but hopefully the video I linked at least helps.
@@Colmatt thanks for kindly responding. I’ll certainly give the video a watch. I’ve spent so many hours trying to find this information out that it’s silly! And I’ve only been playing a week. 😂 Thanks again and I look forward to future content. :)
Oh and don't get me started on the living ships. I absolutely refuse to even own one. They are extremely ugly. I don't care how good any stats are I just hate the look and the janking motion they fly with. Ugh just so fugly!
One thing you forgot the mention the living ship uses completely different fuel then the other ships for the various things it does. This can be either a pro or a con depending on how you look at it.
I prefer hauler because even though their are glitches to make your storage better in other ships I like the size of haulers and the look they have. I have a purple ball hauler
I can't choose.. got beautiful sentinel ships and just got a living ship.. and I have 2 beautiful exotics and an amazing fighter... also got an explorer that reminds me of Boba Fett's ship... I switch ships like every day I play
I made my S Class Solar into a f&$@ing tank. 385 shield, 5,000+ max dps, Maneuverability 1,000+, Hyperdrive 500 LY. Shield regen laser with s class upgrade, with rockets in a supercharged slot. I am proud of this for having just about 30 hours most of it not knowing what to do.
I started a new save for the huge new update last week and I got a SClass Exotic on the very first ship after the starter ship. I think it's was the one that is supposed to be Artemis' ship on that mission. It was the Royal and not squid. Yellow and gold. A stunningly beautiful ship. I am playing on normal and was blown away after finding one so early
A tip for finding solar ships: hang around or leave and re-enter your freigter if you have one. Ive seen the most amount of solar ships land in mine and they usually go for pretty low prices. Found mine with good stats for around 4 mil.
If you've maxed out the cargo space of your exosuit, you have no need for ship cargo space. Personnally, I mostly use my fighter since I love wrecking havoc in pirate systems. I also have a solar, a living and an exotic ship. All 4 are maxed out, my living ship I only use to show off when I go to the nexus. Its mostly blue (body and tentacles) with white head, black armor with white stripes and black engine so pretty cool.
4:40 okay but in the mid-late game there is no reason to have such a big starship cause at this point you would probably have decent A-S rated freighter with matter teleporter, so... to me, hauler is useless
How many living frigates do you recommend having? And is there any way to get a living ship on the switch? Stellar ice farming doesn’t seem to work anymore.
Me personally i am trying to fill my entire fleet with living frigates, realistically you probably only need like 5 to properly farm the upgrades. As far as quicksilver they only thing i can think is to just farm the weekly and daily missions on the anomaly when available. Ill update you if i find anything else though.
I would say explorers for furthest jumps or the new sentinel ships if you want to swap it up. Just make sure to put the hyperdrive in the supercharged slot.
Just a heads up. You don't have to have living frigates to get storage augs for your living ship. Since the endurance update I hadn't even gotten my dream aerial yet and 2 expeditions had brought back living ship storage augmentations. Maybe they patched that out but I don't think so. You know what's weird about the haulers? They tend to be the most expensive, and a large part of that is how many slots that it rolls when generated. On the other hand, I've seen several models at A or S class that cost 14 to 20 mil and then I'll see a different model at B class that 68 mil...and the amount of slots are definitely not causing that big a price difference but the more expensive ship itself had a larger wing span/larger in general and smaller more compact models were much cheaper, even though they had similar storage; makes me wonder about other things like hidden stats maybe?
Thanks for the tip on the living ships, i didnt know that. I think you may be right on the hidden stats as well, because ive had some ships with similar stats but one may be vastly better than the other. I seriously think we will be getting a new ship update soon so maybe we can see more stat if that ever happens.
I have souped fighters and exotics, and fighting pirates and sentinels have become cake walks, so I'm fighting pirates and sentinels in a guppy exotic now. Actually they were not a challenge even in a starter fighter. So I maxxed out the difficulty for space fights. Still too easy. I'm gonna have to weaken my guns rofl.
I have both sentinels and exotics also, but i stick with the sentinel ships, exotics just don't fly as well in my opinion, and the sentinel hover is a must.
I would like to say for alien ships that if you put max out all S type upgrades and max it out. It will surpass the explorer ships for long distance hyperdrive and it also work like solar ships that can be automatic recharge trusters. Alien ships also can be close to fighter ships attack power even though the numbers look lower than fighter ships but it hits like a truck. Again all of what I say will be possible if you put all S class upgrade in your alien ship max out. You can now also use your alien ship for locating traders and planets status.
About 2 years ago when I played on my dad's gaming laptop, I found an S class exotic and bought it. It was yellow and very small, it carried me through like 10 hours of the game, which was all I played
TLDW: Exotics for almost all playstyles (except absolute best statters for fighting or warping), Shutttles, junk, use them as giant trashcans because they are dreadful and you will be laughed at for being poor and homeless by Geks, and for being weak by vykeens and for being just plain dumb by korvax. Everything else "Meh"
Bet be too the game. The only way I actually got new ship was fixing abandoned ones. Wich is very fun for me xD got a hauler, a fighter and a shuttle. Did buy off a solar one from a merchant. The first time I saw the exotic. Cowboy bebop came to my mind xD
I realize the update that includes them wasn't out when this Video was released, though I love my Interceptor. They do kinda ruin the game for all other Ships since they can hover, they're beautiful and when you find them you don't need to fix anything, plus they're worth a lot more than other Ships for some reason- they're just too easy to get and, are worth too much, then there's the hover ability which on it's own (to me) makes it better than anything else. I've ran across 3 S Class Ships, one an exotic, one a Solar but they just did not come close to comparing so I sold them. Kinda wish I'd kept the Exotic. Nice Video!
I played a fair bit until about 4 years ago, then NMS outgrew my old PC. Back on with a new machine in the last couple of weeks, I started a new game: very early got lucky and salvaged an S-class solar from a wreck, then came across a nice (if small, for now) exotic. I'd like a squid or a living ship, but basically with those two, I have all I need, and I can focus on adding slots to them and improving my freighter. Both can fight, the exotic has more HD range but the solar is bigger and so smooooth around a system :)
After they added freighters to the game, ships mostly matter for pulse engine speed (travel within a system) and damage. The freighter handles the warp jumps and inventory slots. All you need is the ability to defend against pirates with your small ship, while exploring solar systems. And one thing I don't like in this game is that they throw freighters at you for free. After 5 jumps and 3 hours, a freighter battle spawns. Another thing is that combat is so easy that you can keep the starter ship forever, if you use the Phase Beam which recharges your shields. So the whole "hunt for units for a great ship" is mostly obsolete apart from combat, pulse speed within a system, design/looks, and having a fun flight when exploring planets. Another thing is that you can upgrade the ship class for 10000 nanites. So it's really up to you whether you want to upgrade towards or find the S class of your dreams. But A and B class are abundant and start with more slots than C class, so I would not upgrade from a C class. In other words, my advice is just get a cool ship of B class or higher, with the design you want. If you like it, you can upgrade its class and storage to max it out manually. The only thing to keep in mind is that different ship types have different strengths and weaknesses, as you showed in the video. I orefer solar ships since the sails provide a ton of bonuses to speed and automatically recharges your fuel, while they also look great. Another thing is that each ship rolls a random value for each attribute. So even if two S class fighters are in front of you, their core values will differ a bit (you see the core value sin parenthesis when looking at it with the analysis visor). Still, the differences are so small, and ship technology makes up for it, and the game itself is so easy, that my ultimate advice is just "pick any ship that looks good and is better than C class". 😂
Solar ships variable geometry and automatic recharging of engines makes them my favorite 🥇 . I love the external design and capabilities of the Living Ships but the cockpit is just too weird for me so although I do put them in 2nd place 🥈 I almost always fly in 3rd person.
All you have to do is complete the story until you find a glyph portal find the first two glyphs using travelers, use those to enter in a certain sequence, find the rest of the glyphs, watch videos and spend hours collecting and repairing every S Class ship in the game then flex all of them in the anomaly
Too bad exotics and alien ships are so ugly, thats the reason I'm not using them. Simple and classic look is what matters the most, stats are totally useless. Even tho combat is almost non existant if you're not a pirate, fighters are the best for my taste. Solars look nice but only when not in flight, cuz I hate those stupid sails.
That's my opinion in a nutshell. And man I'm bummed. The solar ships look SOOOOO good on the ground until they take flight and those stupid sails come out. My god those things just ruin the look. Can't be bothered to look for one myself.
A few corrections/additions on living ships: - They actually got the same handling as haulers. Meaning it's shit and handle like a Land Rover Defender... or an oil tanker, your pick. - They have about the same cargo capacity as "wide" fighters. - The only really got one weapon type, which is an equivalent of Photon Cannon. The other one is mining laser, so unless you want to "fight" fauna, it's useless. - They are much easier to recharge, only requiring resources like oxygen, silver, gold or chromatic metal. None of that battery crap to recharge launcher like with other ships or warp cells for hyperdrive. - Otherwise much more efficient with technology slots, such as not needing any of the rainbow hyperdrive modules and the automatic launch recharger being built into another module, instead of being a completely separate one. This one is especially important in 4.1 update, because Hello Games decided to just remove general slots, so you can't sacrifice storage space for modules.
@@natanaelmireles75857 If you got a good fighter (or interceptor, it's the same thing) then yeah, it's still mid at best. But for general use it's very cheap on the upkeep, so there's always that to consider.
Haulers are a waste of time when fighters can come with 38 slots and 48 21 21 maxed out. Some hauler handle well but not many so its huge gamble buying one
I agree. Inventory slots can be added to a fighter, but weapon and maneuverability upgrades on a hauler won't keep it from riding and fighting like a bucket, comparatively.
My favorite ship type in this game are Haulers, just because I like the way they look, especially with the wider set of wings or the cargo balls on them. I got an S-Class hauler with 3 Overcharged slots in an L-shape together so I installed the positron ejector with upgrades there and it's a monster in combat, plus it makes it awesome for getting ferrite dust+carbon by airstrafing a planet's surface. I used my other slot on my Shield because they're naturally tanky and I've just got S-Class upgrades to fix the maneuverability problems it has. I have my freighter fully upgraded so I use that for hyperdrive warping instead of using my ships for it. I like to switch between the ships in my collection every now and then but that Hauler is definitely my favorite and I think the best one I have just because of the slot placement, lol.
I have an orange hot rod fighter s class. Not the best color but works fine. Most of my inventory is on me or my freighter . My ship just keeps stuff for the pulse drive
