Watching this video makes me remember that Chudats legacy is criminally underated. Hes the only Ic main to win a major, he was ranked number 2 in the world in 2005 and number 7 in the world in 2017. Hes never lost to a shiek, has an amazing record against axe, and even has wins on top players post wobbling era (aklo, slug, ben, etc.) Not to mention hes the only ic to take a game off of armada (three in total) as well as wins on m2k, hbox, mango, plup, leffen, wizzy, zain, etc.

Every time I see that Axe clip my heart melts. It's crazy how much he has pushed Pikachu to the absolute limits for so long and to see him finally at the top just trying to process it all was a really cool moment. Shoutouts to everyone else on this list too. Melee is fucking crazy.

Honorary mention: Duck won Patt's House 3 in 2017 It had over 340 entrants and many of the top 100, just below a major level, though.

I didn't realize IC's had won a supermajor. They are definitely due for another big win though--SluG seemed close, not sure if he was serious about retiring or not. Funny that the first Falco solo major win came before the first Fox solo major win. Would never get that impression talking to Falco mains. I don't see any other characters being particularly close to this goal. Luigis, Samuses, and Docs started out much more popular than they are now, had plenty of experimentation, but have grown less and less relevant over the years. 10 years ago a top 8 with a Samus and a Doc would be normal. And luigi top 8s were normal for a while too. But in 2022 neither Franz nor the Swooper ever made top 16 at a major. We saw them finish 17th-24th a few times and we thought "wow, what a deep bracket run for that character." Eddy Mexio finished 13th-16th once last year at B4BC (a major, but not a supermajor). The highest win of any Samus, Doc, or Luigi at a major in the entirety of 2022. If there is another character that wins a supermajor, I think it's likely to be a character that was just severely underdeveloped. Like...maybe Leffen cracks the Mewtwo code or something? I dunno.

Crazy how the meta is still developing this many years later. There's so much opportunity for creativity.

Really goes to show how surprisingly well balanced Melee is for a rushed 2001 game that wasn't balanced around competitive 1v1s.

I think the most wholesome part about Melee is that at the end of the day, after all the trash talk and all of the intense, mind boggling sets of gameplay, the competitors almost always hug it out. Only eSport with such a level of comradery and emotion.

Great video. This will likely be the complete list of SSBM characters to solo win a (super)major. Godspeed to all the Samuses, Luigis, Docs and Ganons, though.

What amazes me is that, despite having begun watching Melee tournaments live relatively recently (around 2018~2019), I've been able to witness almost half of the characters to ever win a major win their first one. In a game that has been played competitively for 20 years. Can't wait for all the craziness Melee has yet to offer.

I don't anything about Wizzrobe on a personal level but he is still one of my favorite players to watch, he did really well at Ludwigs but I am not sure how much he will be competing. Obviously I wish him the best in whatever he decides to do but I do selfishly hope he comes back and starts competing at more events

I feel confident that I know all the characters that have won, but the first player to do it is hard for the really old-school guys. Best guess Fox - PC Chris Falco - PC Chris Marth - Ken Sheik - Jmook Puff - Mango Peach - Armada Falcon - Wizzrobe Yoshi - amsa Pikachu - Axe ICs - Chudat EDIT: 8/10’s not bad but I can’t believe spacies never won a supermajor before PP and Mango, especially Fox taking until EVO 2014. I was hoping to get at least one of them right with PC Chris, but I guess none of his wins counted as supermajors. Or did he play both spacies literally every time he won?

Definitely glad to see armada just straight up leaning into the fact that melee gets the views, but kind of upset that my views are getting armada payed as opposed to one of the lesser known channels that are actually apart of the community. Armada u are a sm64 streamer, not a smasher. Enter a tournament if u want to post melee. L + ratio wish u played a real game 😢😢
