For me the Leafs would be an avatar of Canada. I wouldn't call it a win for Toronto, which as an American I recognize as the capital of Canada.

Not gonna happen bro, my best friend is a Hawks fan so it would be kinda nice for him and other fans, but nah and Bedard needs to play some NHL games to prove the hype is true. NHL is a different beast altogether, but I'm kinda pulling for them to come outta this rebuild sooner than people expect. And I had to laugh at perry getting 4 million bucks as well as Foligno at this point in their careers, but good for them to get that bag lol

I have high expectations for Buffalo to at least make the playoffs. If they win it all they will be a long shot, and long shots making the Cup and winning it all is something we haven't seen in a while.

As a Pens fan, I definitely would bee grumbling if most of the Metro teams won a cup, the exception being the Devils oddly enough. They're just a fun young team that I would be happy for them.

this. that scandal has painted a massive target on the franchise, such that only maybe boston is more universally hated, as best i can tell. and i think that kind of mark is going to linger for a LONG time.

Everyone including their owner who died is no longer involved with the team currently. Why do the fans have to suffer for something they had no control over?

If Vegas repeats I wouldn't be thrilled, but that team is expertly built and extremely well coached. Same goes for Tampa. But if the Hawks win with a draft pick they should have been stripped of? Justifiable rage from every hockey fan with a conscience.

Doesn't make sense why New Jersey was supposed to lose draft picks for circumventing the cap when they tried signing Kovalchuk to a 17 year deal (they ended up retaining those draft picks, but the original deal was outlandish and it would come back to haunt the franchise even though they reduced it by 2 years), yet the Blackhawks didn't for not only employing a s*x offender who ruined the playing careers of at least two prospects, which ended up destroying the legacies of everyone else involved with the organization (mostly the players, coaching staff, and front office personnel), but also for giving said s*x offender letters of recommendations, which led to him ruining a teenager's mental health by doing the same thing that he did when he was part of the organization. I understand why they kept quiet about it during their 2010 playoff run, even though I would have still let the commissioner know about it and that I planned on dealing with it after the playoffs, but they should have addressed the issue that following summer, instead of trying to bury it only for it to be discovered a decade later.

Toronto is one of two franchises I despise due to their fans (Minnesota is the other). It won't bother me a bit if they don't win a cup. Edmonton is trending that way as well (and a close friend of mine who was a Oiler fan this year, so I don't feel obligated to spare her feelings in public now).

While not widely accepted, I can't be bothered to hate on the team despite the excessive media coverage. [just don't tune into it] The way I see it, if your nemesis has gone decades without posing any threat to you, they aren't really a nemesis anymore. Kind of just feel sorry for them now really.

It's funny cuz I think everyone in the league can see on paper that they put in the work to win. It's not an A-list team like Vegas was right off the bat. If we win a cup.. it'd be with heart. Which is totally within my realm of reality this year. I bet people would accept it more than Vegas winning again tbh.

As a Rangers fan I would be pretty angry with Islanders’ Cup. Devils would be just annoying since their fanbase suddenly appeared out of nowhere and is incredibly annoying. But I have to say their team is pretty strong and exciting to watch.

i can get behind that. personally i'm indifferent about canada winning a cup, but that ticks pretty much every box for me that doesn't involve my own team winning the cup (LA). not a rival, respectable group of players, the fans have gone through suffering, and it's not a fanbase that i really find particularly mockable.

i think that has less to do with Bedard himself and more to do with the whole kyle beach thing. that's likely to linger for a while too, i'd think

It's not entirely true though. While, yes leaf fans will not cheer for the Habs in the final or vice versa but most people in leaf country cheered for the canucks when they made the finals. I think it would be the same for Oilers, Flames, Jets.

I actually think it's the opposite. It's a uniquely Canadian thing to root for your arch-rival just so "Canada" can win the Cup. You think Red Sox fans would root for the Yankees to eliminate the Blue Jays just so the World Series stays stateside? Hell no.

@@Badnercalabrese Flames "fans" are a weird breed I find. Their team could go 4-78-0 on the season, but 4-0-0 against the Oilers, and they would call that a successful year. That said, I probably should have emphasized the *many* not being *most*. Just that the "My team or no one" group are a sizable enough, and obnoxiously loud minority, that negatively affects many interactions with the fan base as a whole.

Of those that are close - Edmonton should be the most acceptable. I think both Dallas and Toronto are due for another one too. Buffalo would be fun too, but they have a few years more to improve.

It's interesting. I knew Oilers fans who cheered for Vegas after the Oilers were defeated out of respect (myself included), but I'm not sure how common that is. A lot of Vegas fans seem to really despise the Oilers.

Islanders didn't make the playoffs in 21-22. It was 19-20 that they made it to the CF only to be overwhelmed by Tampa Bay. Then again in 20-21.
