I was lucky enough to get the Ranger when it came out. For me it was the movement and the simplicity of the dial.A reasonably priced Tudor that was understated. I love wearing it and it flies under the radar nicely.
@@DC-uf6ve meh, maybe. But I purchased an Explorer uno in 2009 for $3,200 and now that model is selling for $8k... Yeah, if I was shopping now for a $3,200 watch I'd go with a Tudor and save the rest.
@@roamready9732 Oof 8k. It's a compelling argument to go for the Tudor under this circumstances I guess. I'd probably avoid Rolex and Tudor now as they're both prices way above their worth. Omega is probably where the value is at now, you don't even need to pay list price for Omega. Wiggle room and a less cnty experience is available.
If i would buy a Tudor it would probably be the 54, but the Pelagos is really impressive. Lots of lume, highly legible, toolish in the proper measure and discreet.
For me it would be the Ranger Jody. I have always liked it's simple no-nonsense looks, and I feel like it is more of an 'original' (as in doesn't really look like much else out there except maybe an Explorer 1) than the other two, which have more of the generic 'dive watch' look to me. All cool watches though as you say, thanks for another great video !
Been wearing my Ranger for about a year now. It gives me the same vibes as my Pre-Ceramic Rolex watches with a warranty and out of the box experience. Absolutely brilliant watch, highly underrated.
The ranger in person is so much better than in pictures. I’ve tried on all 3 and I own the pelagos 39 so my next would be the Ranger because of the brushed finish and the t-fit clasp.
The Ranger has a very utilitarian vibe that I am really drawn to, butI, unfortunately, do not occupy the socio-economic strata wherein $4 grand plus for a watch, however compelling, historic or beautiful, is a realistic goal. I mean, I'm still trying to work out a feasible way to afford a Bulova Lunar Pilot and that one costs 10% of the lowest cost offering here!
Jody you are the master. I love the arc from a 22 dollar Casio to 18 thousand dollars of Tudor magic. Both vids were incredible and in sequence brilliant. I don’t believe it was an accident. Nothing like contrast to get us watch lovers all hot and bothered. Well done. The Casio vid took me straight to Amazon. This one left me wanting a Tudor more than ever. One day!! Merci!
The Ranger is the only one I could see myself wearing. The other two are - if this makes any sense - too much watch. But hey, on the plus side, that makes me a cheap date!
I've saved my pennies and been lucky enough to pick up all 3 (bb58 in blue), plus the BB Pro. I can honestly say that I love all 4 for very different reasons, but the Ranger is the one that strangely gets the most wrist time, followed by the Pelagos 39, the BB Pro, then the Blue BB58. The Ranger is just so different than anything else in my collection, and kinda takes the place of my Hamilton Khaki Mechanical on weekend adventures and casual days. All great watches and in 10 years I'd be surprised if they all have not gone up significantly in value. And for anyone wondering, I have a 6.75 inch wrist, and the BB54 is beautiful, but too small for me when I tried it on wrist 👍
I own the bb58 and I love it. It’s that simple. I wear it the most and not gentle with it either and still looks as good as the day I put it on my wrist. Even with the small scratches it looks better to me Jody.
Tudor makes beautiful pieces but the elephant in the room that is never addressed, is the cost of servicing. I own two Tudors and delighted that both still offer ETA movements, which cost me $200 Canadian to service at my local Seiko guru. In-house movements are awesome in terms of technology, but exorbitant to service… $650 Canadian at the low end, often more. That, in my opinion, is why there are now so many Tudors and Omegas flooding the used market (here in Vancouver, in any case). If you are looking at picking up a used Tudor, now is a good time as used prices are attractive.
As long as €4000 is quite a chunk of cash to me i won't ever buy one. I would be too careful with it. Also i like to see where my money went to. These look quite generic. (Unlike my Tissot Squelette for example.)
I own the Ranger and love it. I don’t understand it when people say it’s boring and then go on to say if it hand white lume and a flat crystal it will be better. To me what makes the Ranger interesting is lume and the beauty crystal. To each their own. They are all stunning.
The Ranger got a lot of unfair criticism on release, mostly complaining its not flashly looking like a Rolex Explorer. I think they are missing the point that it's supposed to be rugged field/adventure watch. The fact is hasn't, morphed into a piece of pretentious blingly jewellery like the Explorer is welcome.
@@ademyers2741 The Ranger moved upmarket from its predecessor. I own both and the older Heritage Ranger is a true field watch… more affordable to buy, very legible due to its larger dial, drilled lugs for quick strap changes and cheap as chips to service. In fact, the more it gets banged up, the better it looks. My Ranger MT5402 is much more dressy by design (no drilled lugs, for example) and I would not want it to get dinged as I work outdoors… it functions well as a desk fieldy and beautifully as a dress watch. I love both as the fill different niches in my collection.
The Ranger is very versatile due to its simple design. Since buying it 6 months ago, it has been my go to watch. It looks more like the Rolex Explorer I wish I could afford (the 1016) when compared to more recent Explorers . I am not a huge fan of the snowflake hands so the Ranger is a plus for me and you are spot on - the Pelagos needs a simpler dial, but otherwise is a gorgeous thing.
@@denniskai2331 yes its good. they make the best homages only gripe i have heard about their pelagos is that it may not sit as flat on your wrist as you want it to.
I picked up a Ranger the week it came it, it’s by far my most worn watch. Super comfortable, amazing legibility, and just a simple design. I adore it. I do have the 43mm Black Bay Bronze (I love numerals) and the Harrod’s heritage with the green bezel as well. I love those but do wish they were as thin and the 3 in this video. Thanks for sharing!
Ranger would be my choice, dive bezels never seem to line up. The triangle always seem sit either side of the 12 which is totally fine for a sub £1000 dive watch you can of course move the bezel but it will almost always land to the side
I bought a BB58 in blue well before the Pelagos 39 came out. I think I made the right choice. I like blue and the lack of gilt helps it look more modern. However, I’d love to snag a Pelagos at some point as well
The design of the Ranger was just what I was looking for in my next watch. The clean unassuming face with a brushed steel case/bracelet and solid build quality that doesn't attract attention. This fits my style of a luxury daily driver like a Toyota Land Cruiser, well done Tudor.
Looks like Tudor is trying to achieve a higher level of exclusivity, based on their pricing, same as some other 'exclusive' brand that I refuse to even mention.
Would never buy another Tudor. My BB58 went back under warranty twice for the same fault which wasnt fully rectified. Very poor communication and after sales.
u dont hear this often. thanks for sharing. i suspect it happens more than one would like to think, but it is hard to express that u have issues with a company and product that u spent thousands for.
Great vid Jody! Pelagos 42mm is a grail of mine so for me, it's the Pelagos Pelagos Pelagos 39mm. Love the clean black dial and stark white hands and indices.
Ranger, best bracelet, easiest to read and i don't like circular indices plus the Ranger doesn't have any other varieties and its a watch which knows what it is
since I absolutely hate the look of the "snowflake" hand, it's the Ranger by default. I would drop the money on a Tudor BB if the handset was different. Shame, since I love the 39mm size and the rest of the design language.
As a old person I’ve been buying watches for years. Not being wealthy it takes a while to get things right. My Tudor Ranger is of a 1966 era, Rolex signed on the crown and the back. My Explorer is by Rolex, circa 2020, from my wife and instead of the Tudor Pelagos, it’s a 1996 era Tudor submariner.
BB58 for me. Easy decision. The only things I don't like about it is those 'snowflake hands' and the lack of crown guards. I suppose if it HAD different hands and crown guards, it would be called a 'Rolex Submariner'. To be honest, I wouldn't pay £4K+ for a Tudor anyway.
Speaking as someone who owns the BB58 and Ranger, and tried the P39 numerous times, it'll have to be the Ranger - Extremely underrated watch that isn't photogenic nor under boutique light, but looks terrific in natural light. Don't judge it till you've seen/tried it.
Tudor strikes out for me. Too big, too fat and the Ranger I hate look wise. I'd save my money for an Omega Seamaster Professional 300 or I'd spend it on a few fun watches
Oh, Jody, Jody, Jody, just why did you have to do this three way Tudor review? I've been a fan of Tudor since that late '70's, yes I'm an OWLG (Old Watch Loving Git), but I've never owned a Tudor. I love many/most of the plethora of 'heritage/reissues' from many historic watch brands and own at least a couple of them, the Oris Heritage 65 Diver is a favourite of mine and yours I believe, that 3,6,9,12 dial with a depth of ink that you could easily 'plunge' into is just amazing. For me the best 'Heritage' watch Tudor could produce would be either 'Snow Flake' handed Ranger, or a stainless steel Pelagos with date and a simpler dial, less is more as they say! BUT the Black Bay is just a 'Home Run' and can never be a wrong choice, IMHO?! Pleease keep up the good work/channel output etc.
Can you just imagine how good the Ranger would look with raised indexes!!! It would actually compete with the Rolex explorer. As it stands, it’s a hard pass for most folks.
I would love to see a blue no-date Pelagos, either full-size or 39. For me, the downside of the full-size Pelagos is the small date window, and the cyclops is part of what makes the Rolex Submariner preferable. Small date windows subtract from the legibility of a watch for those without perfect vision. If the Pelagos 39 came in blue, I would grab one immediately.
I've had the original Pelagos for a number of years and yes, the uncoated titanium marks easily. But, if you take a titanium refinishing pad to it, it comes up a treat.
I’m surprised you have no videos about Richard Mille homages… are you sleeping? 😁😁😁 Tsar Bomba and Onola and Pagani have insane fantastic watches. You should treat yourself with some of these. I’m super excited to have a few but was wandering if you had any reviews. I trust you. Congratulations for the Chanel.
I don't know if it's just me, but 39mm watches always seem to occupy an odd fitting in between 36/37 and 40/42mm watches - somehow the lugs are always slightly longer than you want, while the proportions of case diameter vs space given over to the strap looks odd. Maybe it's just my eyes though.
Think i am the only member of the @anythingButaBB58 club Ranger was very underwhelming, and such a missed opportunity So that leaves the Pelagus but would need a full sized one and love my FXD
I’ve said this elsewhere but feel like I’m living in an alternate universe where everybody is ignoring the gaping flaw of the Tudor handset. For years people have been falling over themselves extolling the virtues of the brand while turning a blind eye to the giant carbuncle on the hour hand! The ‘snowflake’ hand is anything but! It completely unbalances the entire face of so many Tudor watches. The materials, finishing and design of these watches is consistent and unified but the awkward, large, 45 degree rotated square on the hour hand destroys any balance and visual harmony of the dial. For me it ruins the aesthetic completely. Of course Tudor makes some wonderful products. I love the 1926 and quite like the ranger but apart from that it seems like everything they make has that square wart awkwardly slapped on the end of the hour hand. Is it just me? Have I woken to a world where everybody has collective blindness to this? Nobody has heard of the Beatles [‘yesterday’ film] and this unholy blemish is invisible to the rest of humanity?
Jody, you’re either talking about Casio or these $5k numbers. Let’s get back to the realistic watches most of us can afford (under $1k). I don’t think a $28 Casio is even worth talking about, but a $5k watch isn’t either. There’s plenty of choices out there that are interesting and different. There’s really nothing more boring than a Tudor that’s looked the same for decades. Just my opinion but you get the point. Cheers
I hate to say this...but why are we supporting another Rolex little brother. They are going to the same directions even with the "DODGY" business strategy...really hot items, put your name down for waiting lists...sound familiar? Good luck into people believing they are hot cakes....Rolex at least retain their value or even more.
Which Tudor would I pick? None of them. They are all incredibly boring and very generic and yes I can afford one, and have tried them on before the fan boys lash out. I'm getting so bored of the Rolex/Tudor BS.
Well i got the bb58 bronze boutique edition and it has the t-fit clasp already, so for me that is the superior and nearly perfect bb58. The only thing that could be even nicer for me, would be maybe a green or blue dial & bezel, just like the big black bay bronze. But i am perfectly happy with my brown watch anyway O.o
I have no idea why people are so obsessed with keeping the dial text-free. The text on the pelagos 39 is perfectly balanced to my eye. I think the ranger looks Spartan and weirdly empty by comparison.
Hmmmm, if I can choose, and just for the overall looking, I'll choose the Pelagos. It's a shame they have dropped the snowflake hand in the Ranger for a... peepee hand, what the heck!
Hi Jody! I picked up the Pelagos 39. I just wanted to try it on. But the sales representative told me I could have it, if I want to. So, what could I’ve done? 🤷♂️ Instead of purchasing the Ranger with its awful coloured hands and markers, I went for a BB41 in black. It makes for nice every day watch. Best wishes, Claus
Not a fan of the Ranger. It looks so pedestrian next to the other two. If Tudor had given it applied indices and maybe the snowflake hands too, it would of lifted that watch no end IMHO. Out of the three here the gilt dial BB58 is still my favorite. Maybe even my favorite Tudor ever. While the only fault I could find with the Pelagos is the lack of a scratch resistant coating for the Ti. If Sinn can create almost ceramic like dent and scratch resistance with their tegimented process, there’s no reason pricier Tudor couldn’t do something similar I reckon.
Don't know if it is different in Aus but they come with a 5 year warranty in UK. For mevthe pick ofvthr bunch is the BB58 the new Pelargos just feels a bit sterile.
I only wish Tudor was sold on US Exchange websites or in stores.. None of these really peak my interests though. Gonna save for a few microbrands.. Ranger for the win
3 great watches but not for me. For me I don’t like the green markers on the ranger. The gilt 58 is lovely but maybe a bit flamboyantly for me and no on the fly adjustment, if I could pull it off I’d be more tempted by the 54. I love the metal bits off the pelogos but the dial and bezel are too shiny but if forced, this is the one I would choose until the 58 gets a new clasp. For me the biggest negative is they have made 3 black dialled 39 mm watches and non have a date function, the black bay pro is the one I spent money on, date function and on the fly adjustment are now essential for me and I think it looks amazing.
I would, and did, choose an original Pelagos. The palagos 39 does not make sense to me. If I wanted a 39 mm, no date dive watch from Tudor I'd buy a black Bay
I could never buy the Ranger because of that hour hand you pointed out ha ha ha but, and this is a big BUT!! …it is a nice watch, I simply can’t unsee that hour hand though 😂
I also wear my 58 on a jubilee bracelet. It is one of my favorite watches in my collection and I will never sell it. About as close as one can get to buying a brand new 4 digit Sub :) Cheers!
Ranger handset is the clear winner when you include everything overall. I can't imagine buying a printed dial watch for that much. I have a have bronze case Stowa and that's about as far as I'd go a printed dial. I love seeing different dimension in my dials, that's the thing I'm actually looking at. BB58 would be my pick, if I had to choose.
No one. This synthetic shortage paired with irrational high prices led me to say goodbye to this market by now. The whole value of these watches is purely synthetic.
