raveners are by far our best melee unit, and their shooting is even better than ranged warriors. with the ability to deepstrike, you should atleast run 6 of them in every army.
I think the Tyrannocyte is ranked correctly in general. That said I do like you can T1 drop in of a full squad of Zoanrothropes or a massive blob of troops with it for shenanigans.
People keep saying Zoanthropes are really good but in my experience they kinda suck. They just don't get enough shots and are surprisingly easy to kill if you only take three of them. I may be using them wrong as I am currently playing in a campaign with small-ish armies but so far all they have been able to do is take four of five wounds off something big with their focused attack because they are always going to miss one or two of their shots and damage is a roll, and their witchfire can only really kill one or two marines, unless they have invulnerable saves like Bladeguard, in which case you may only kill one. Then they get shot off the table by something that has better range than them. If there is an ideal way to use them please tell me as at the moment tyranid shooting seems incredibly underwhelming and these guy are supposed to be the best part of it.
They allways play like "shitbag" in meaning that they need for provoke oponent shoot in them and gather all damage from the table. You right - they do nothing on the table, maybe gives 6++ aura to hourmas/termas because all other units in index don't need it. Try them with hyper-agression adaptation and in combo with exocreens. Shoot only wichfire, and if it needed use additional adaptation for 1CP.

I think Rippers were underrated considering their cost and ability to deepstrike.
Yeah, they are one of the best utility units. Massive force multiplier, extremely versatile and so cheap that shooting them hurts the enemy more than you.
About to play my first tournament in a couple weeks and this video helped me tremendously! I went from all forgeworld monsters to a bit more variety so I can actually play the game 😅
As someone who’s starting the nids with the leviathan box not feelin too hot lol however they are my secondary army I’ve got about 2500 points of ultramarines and there’s still a handful of units I really want for them, have really been enjoying painting the nids tho after doing so many marines lol
I wouldn't be too discouraged. Aside from the Winged Prime and Screamer, basically the entire box is at least very usable. And even then, I'm very sure the Screamer gets a points buff in the near future
it's weird to hear S10, -2ap, 3dam isnt exciting, especially with 10 attacks that are either gonna sustain or get lethal hits. sure you arent gonna one shot a baneblade but thats a pretty fantastic profile in the screamer killer. 180pts is a bit expensive i agree but the SK is not a bad datasheet by any means neurogants are good until you attach them to a tyrant and someone brings indirect fire weapons and maxes on bring it down with one shooting profile. or gets easy overwhelming force and no prisoners bc they have like the worst defensive profile in the army besides spore mines
Imo its just its points compared to other monsters. The haruspex specifically. The haruspex is cheaper, better toughness, better wounds, and better oc. The shooting on both is eh, melee wise the haruspex has more attack overall but they are probably about the same given the different str, and damages. Its really just for cheaper i can get just as fast of a monster that is harder to kill and will do just as much work or more then the screamer. I really hope the screamer comes down in some points because the model is great now.
@@TheJasonDragonsbane yeah you make 100% sense there and i agree, i bring haruspex way more than i do SKs but to say the SKs profile is not exciting is blatantly wrong. and then to later say the raveners is "incredible" bc it's twinlinked? the math isnt adding up from our dear leader here
@@johnnyohm4579 I would agree his profile isn’t bad, just not good for it’s points compared to others. Raveners I think have more value in secondary scoring then in melee. They aren’t terrible but only against certain targets.
The big problem is that most tanks are T11 to 12. Weaker vehicles / Monsters like Dreadnoughts, sure they're T8-10... but most people running vehicles have higher toughness, so the screamer's attacks aren't actually wounding on a 3.
@@GusOmega if you're fighting a ton of vehicles you should already have lethals, and you should have zoans and rupture cannons for high toughness units. besides unless there are zero infantry on the map you shouldnt be charging a tank with an SK anyways, play into the obvious matchups there. If you're willfully through lower S into higher T units when there are other things to fight it's your fault if it doesnt go your way, not the unit
I think ranged warriors are underrated. Their ballistic skill should be better, but 1. Squads of 3 aren't appealing targets for elite infantry-busting blast weapons 2. They are innately Synapse, which is surprisingly useful 3. Being able to Fall Back/Shoot/Charge gives them decent movement flexibility Nothing flashy, but I think they definitely still have a place in most non-nidzilla lists, especially with a Tyrant on foot
I get that they are cheap but every time i look at neurogaunts it just feels bad to add them into an army, i don't think that they should be that high on the rankings
They shouldn't even exist. They fill a role that doesn't need filling. Nids are full of throw away chav units, no need to introduce a even worse one for a few points less.
Having a super cheap unit to extend synapse can be more useful than you might expect, it can improve the survivability of your backline by just being cheap idiots that sit on your home objective
Thanks as always! I think the Toxicrene may be worse than you say, just because the damage is so low, the enemy can simply ignore them and there's not much you can do as she is hard to move around the table. That being said, this entire codex is odd. It seems more and more GW just went with a bunch of "that sounds cool" rules and the players have found uses for the units.
Rules as written suggest that if you attach a winged tyranid prime to warriors and have them in reserves, the can all rapid ingress using the primes deep strike ability, unless I’m missing something here
Iv watched a lot of tyranids games at this point and have not seen a single model from the leviathan box used. Not a single one lol I find that hilarious
@scolack123 ud think so but no. Not in any of the games iv seen. Tho I have seen them in tournament lists on trevys tactical Tuesday so maybe that counts
I've been converted to running Dakka-fexes with Old One Eye. The full re-rolls combos excellently with lethal hits, so the unit is good against both infantry and tanks. Olde One Eye by himself is usually enough to end any melee threats that engage with the unit.
I tried that in a game tonight and unfortunately both of his carnifex bodyguard got killed turn one, getting rid of his buffs and didn't even get to shoot. Is it best to put them in strategic reserve?
Haven't heard of you or your channel before, but the fact that you, like so many other people who get distracted by big monsters and butterflies, think rippers are shit because they come with 0 OC on them, let's me question your understanding of the game and basic math ;) They more or less double the OC of any friendly unit they get placed alongside with, at least relatively speaking, so even if you just let them run with 20 Gaunts, they double their OC value for an investment of just 35 points. The enemy can't choose to ignore them, so he HAS to waste resources to get rid of them or he'll struggle massively scoring any Objective markers. And that's perfect because every shot the enemy pumps into the rippers, is a net win for you because he can't shoot anything more expensive. Plus they are amazing shield units. Rippers are extremely versatile and belong in almost any list, if only a unit or two.
I loved the video! I want to ask if you happen to have any solid lists? I’m having trouble really coming up with stuff to play with friends because I haven’t been able to play 10th yet
Unfortunately none of the Leviathan models are any good rules wise. Rarely are the taken amongst competitive lists. Lovely models. Disappointing rules.
Uh, what lists have you been looking at? I regularly see barbs, termagaunts, neurogaunts, and neurotyrants played. I think the Screamer and Winged Prime just leave people with a bad taste in their mouths for the rest of the box
Ooof. i just started painting my gorgon nids, and like 90% of what I have is bottom tier. 2 Toxicrenes, Sporocyst, Tyranocite, Harpy, Tervrigon, Tyrant guard. Rest is leviathan boxes, Ground tyrant, zoanthropes, and venomthropes. On a side note I hope they "fix" the biovore mine stuff in the codex, it seems very unintended for spores to do objectives.
Honestly I think he under-ranked the tyranocyte and sporocyst. The Harpy needs a major rework, the tervigon and toxicrenes are 40-60 points too expensive but aren't mechanically unsavable. And tyrant guard are a meta issue more so than a unit card one.
I'm still not sold on the exocrine. I think even with the lethal hits the strength 8 is pretty meh against vehicles and we have a ton of stuff that's good at clearing out infantry. I can see the argument for including one of them for the reroll 1's to hit though.
I dont have a biovore so i normally use ripper swarms to score tactical objectives from deepstrike and they normally score me a few points, but then again I can see how a biovore is infinitely better
As Aeldari player I totally disagree that it's difficult to kill a Tyrannofex in 1 single shooting phase 😉 As a New Tyranid player I don't share that love about new barbgaunt : they have roughly similar output fire as Aeldari Swooping Hawks and the fact they have only 24" range and no indirect fire doesn't help them to inflict that penalty of movement to infantry units in the case opposent doesn't align a pure infantry list
Buggles are my army of choice, and I love them. I put in a lil houserule with my friends that units with OC of 0 cant score certain secondaries. So no teleport homers or engaged on all fronts for my precious rippers or spore and mucilid mines. Usually dont need em either.
