I am so happy to find your channel! This is my second pregnancy and my first was in 2015. I feel like a new mom during this time haha and I loooove that you’re both doctors, especially an OBGYN and a Pedi doc. Like what??? A subscriber for sure.

Hi Docs! I really like your videos😊 Is getting the Tdap vaccine at exactly 27 weeks too early? Why is it better to wait till 32 weeks? If it takes 4 weeks to get to peak antibodies response and you go into labor at 35 weeks then wouldn’t it better to get it earlier rather than later? Thanks!

We’re getting ready to start trying and I’m glad I’ve found your channel. I understand that vaccines are a hot topic right now, and it’s easy to find lots of misinformation. This video was extremely helpful to frame my list of questions for my obgyn. In Canada we’re doing a gradual approach to getting everyone vaccinated and as a healthy non-immunocompromised individual it’s unlikely that I’ll get the vaccine until I’m already pregnant. Glad to know that may not stop me from being able to be vaccinated overall. Thanks for the great educational content!

Hi, Thanks so much for providing such great videos. I have a question: me and my wife are expecting a child and thinking about cord tissue and blood storage if it is something necessary these days and how important it is. could you please share your thoughts about that and if yourself decided to register to store your child's cord tissue and blood or not. Thanks again... Kam
@TheDoctorsBjorkman
@TheDoctorsBjorkman 3 года назад
Hi Kam. We are not going to do cord blood banking. ACOG (American College of OB/GYN) currently feels that routine collection and storage of umbilical cord blood with a private cord blood bank is not supported by the evidence at this time. They feel it may be considered when there is knowledge of a family member with a medical condition would could potentially benefit from cord blood transplant. They do encouraged people to consider public umbilical cord blood donation to increase the availability of matched cord blood units for people of all backgrounds. Private cord blood banking is VERY expensive and the chance you need/are able to use it are slim!!

@@TheDoctorsBjorkman thanks so much for sharing your thoughts! 🙏 Based on your answer another question came up to my mind that: I have heard that the cord blood in very important to infant's health and some people say that it is better not to cut the cord for at least 2 minutes to make sure all inside the cord goes into baby's body. Is it true?

Hi :) could you explain why it’s recommended to be careful with metal intake (eating fish, working with heavy metals etc.) But vaccines are ok? I’m assuming because the pros outweigh the cons?
@eclecticdiva85
@eclecticdiva85 3 года назад
I wanna know too
@TheDoctorsBjorkman
@TheDoctorsBjorkman 3 года назад
Hi Mayra & @Mel B! Great question. The quick answer is that the TYPE of mercury in fish and and the kind of mercury in vaccines are different. METHYLmercury is the type of mercury found in certain kinds of fish, and it takes a LONG time for it to be broken down and eliminated from the body. Since it takes a long time to be eliminated, it can build up in your body if you are eating foods with lots of mercury. We know that high levels of methylmercury can be toxic to people, and the developing nervous system of a fetus is known to be particularly vulnerable to methyl mercury! High doses of prenatal exposure to METHYLmercury can result in cognitive deficits, motor skill effects, attention deficits, language skill deficiencies, and decreased learning capacity and memory. So that is why we are so careful about how much and what TYPE of fish you are consuming. Some vaccines contain something called thimerosal. Thimerosal has a small amount of ETHYLmercury in it. Ethylmercury is broken down in the body and cleared VERY quickly! So it doesn't build up like METHYLmercury and cause problems. --->Thimerosal is added to vials of vaccine that contain more than one dose (multi-dose vials) to prevent growth of germs that could potentially enter the vial when when a syringe needle enters a vial as a vaccine is being prepared for administration. Thimerosal is not in ANY pediatric vaccines, and if you were uncomfortable with it being in an adult vaccine, like your flu shot, you could ask for a preservative-free version (which just means it is a single dose vial!) Also, interestingly, the new COVID vaccines do not have ANY mercury in them at all! Hope that was helpful. Let us know if you ever have any other questions.

@@TheDoctorsBjorkman they were referring to metals in general not just thimerosal. What about aluminum? Also they are cleared differently because they bypass the first pass metabolism. Not only that but specific genetic polymorphisms in pathways such as the OAT, glutathione metabolism, metallothioneins, and selenoproteins, are associated with either higher or lower biomarker levels. Also many vaccines contain polysorbate 80 a chemical emulsifier commonly used in many NSAIDS, pain killers and cancer treatments because it opens the blood brain barrier allowing better delivery. Wouldn't this also allow more metals in to the brain? In studies involving rabbits injected with aluminum the metabolism did not demonstrate rapid excretion of these metals as you describe. When injected with aluminum they had only excreted 13% after 28 days with the rest accumulating in the kidneys, spleen, liver, heart, lymph nodes and brain. This whole reply has way too many unmentioned variables. Aluminum is an environmentally abundant and proinflammatory, trivalent metal neurotoxin. Despite this oral consumption has relatively low bioavailability. IM/IV bioavailability on the other hand is extremely high. That's why the FDA regulates IV nutrition concentrations to

Thank you for this information! I was raised in a family who mainly did not vaccinate, and am looking into the topic myself. I did not realize there was the option to get a vaccine without the preservatives with the heavy metal in it, that is amazing! As this was something I was concerned about. I do have a question, for those vaccines which are not recommended in pregnancy, because the virus is active, I believe ya'll said, are these vaccines then safe for children? Children of what age? And if the virus is "active" does this mean, unlike with other vaccines, that you can actually get the illness from the vaccine? I know this video is 3 years old, but if anyone has information, or knows a good place I could find this information, please let me know! Thank you!

How many c-sesion can you have? I had 3 and am pregnant and nervous.
@TheDoctorsBjorkman
@TheDoctorsBjorkman 3 года назад
There isn't actually a "limit" on number of c-sections you can have. I have done many many 5th c-sections before! That being said, the risks of complications go up with each c-section you have because of scar tissue in the abdomen and the way the placenta attaches sometimes, so your doctor will definitely talk with you about that. It is totally normal to be nervous, so keep talking with your doctor so that you feel comfortable about what to expect.

Both vaccines available for Tdap in the US say on their inserts that safety and effectiveness has NOT been established for pregnant women. Quite simply, the TDap has not undergone short or long term safety studies for pregnant women and has also been labeled a category C drug which means by definition “Category C: Risk cannot be ruled out. There are no satisfactory studies in pregnant women, but animal studies demonstrated a risk to the fetus; potential benefits of the drug may outweigh the risks.”
