After watching that Undertaker podcast with you starring in it, Its been confirmed, you are hands down the best wrestler turned youtuber ever, you just have that ever present kindness and charisma to spread around, I could genuinely listen to you reacting to your matches and still find it interesting as hell, God bless Maven
I tried the backstabber on a friend before and they sandbagged me on the landing. I ended up squeezing out a fart and my friends didn’t let me live that down for months. So there’s an emotional aspect to the pain you feel doing these moves too.
Thank You so much for your contribution to us WWE fans WrestlingBios. I watch EVERY video you make, every chance I get. I actually need to start watching more of your amazing content my brother. Much Love and Respect. GOD Bless you.
The fact Kurt Angle made it his thing, especially in TNA, to miss Moonsaults from the top of a cage shows just how much he put himself through for our entertainment.
@@BenedictCeven with changing his style he was going to retire years ago, but then he got stem cell treatment on his knees and it gave him a 2nd life in wrestling. Doesn’t work for everyone though, Kurt Angle said stem cells had no effect on him.
"How many moonsaults connect? Not that many" VERY true. One day I was watching an old Bam Bam Bigelow match, and he busted out his patented BIG boy moonsault, and he obviously whiffed. I tried to find any of his that connected. and 4... I was only able to find 4 of Bammer's moonsaults that connected... Shoot, you'd think with a percentage rate that low, he'd nix that move... In kayfabe though, it's a MAJESTIC sight seeing a man that big do an arching backflip.
@@DigitalNoodleMiss me with that one, lmao. I’m used to taking back bumps but I can’t imagine whiffing a moonsault and crashing chest first onto the mat.
@@BlakeMaddox-ln6uuyeah I agree he’ll probably will but it depends what he’s doing after a match weather he’s having massages or chiropractor or some type of physical therapy to help keep him in shape longer.
@CommanderSuberox all of that stuff is like slapping a bandaid on it, that kind of repetitive trauma to the body will have repercissions no matter how many massages you get
Seeing the clip of Maven doing the moonsault was a shame not to see him use it cause it looked perfect, like i have never seen a more perfect moonsault.
you can see he actually underrotated just a tiny bit, which made his chest hit the mat just a bit before his hips hit the mat. No wonder it knocked the wind out of him.
The moonsault part reminded me of my cup of coffee wrestling. I did one moonsault, and it punished my knees on the landing, and I was like, "welp, enough of that." LOL
Never saw you wrestle Mave, but seeing these highlights is very impressive. You were a very athletic man. And watching your progression from the early clips adds to my amazement. Also makes me wonder how Jeff Hardy is still alive…
I always thought that RVD’s Frog Splash/Five Star Splash (I don’t remember what it was called now) seemed to be very painful on his ribs. Every time he did that move he would show a lot of pain on his face and grab his ribs. Of course, that may have just been acting to sell the move, but it really looked hard and painful on the ribcage.
I will tell you I knocked the wind out of myself trying it I literally jumped as high as my body would go to do it on my brother . It does have a damage effect on yourself brother was better off than I was
I see the shooting star press hurting man because youre landing the same way, a front bump, but you flip first adding momentum not to mention the height.
Justin Gabriel's 450 Splash was the 2010s equivalent of that. Everyone who ever took it claims it's the most painful move they ever took in WWE. Plus, Justin Gabriel himself always looked genuinely in pain right after giving it.
I only watched wrestling as a teenager for about two years. It was so much fun but I eventually drifted away from it. But watching this stuff has brought back some of the magic of being a teenager again. I still don’t care about watching actual wrestling but it’s neat seeing the curtain lifted now that the kayfabe isn’t so strong.
Maven I was actually a fan and f yours in tough enough and when you got to the WWE. I love that your putting these videos out now. So many questions answered that I’ve had since I was a kid
The spinning heel kick surprised me. Looks like such a textbook move but I never thought about landing differently every time and how that takes a toll on your body.
It’s been extremely inconsistently called between the two. We always griped about commentators interchanging them back when I was on the wrestling internet 25 years ago.
Maven, watching these clips, I gotta give you credit for not only your hops but how natural you looked most of the time. You had your own flair with your spins and such. Not always the cleanest result, but the actual motion catches my eye every time.
Maven: "The missile dropkick was a pretty easy move to perform." Me, constantly falling on my chest and face every time: "Yeaaaah... right... super easy." 👀
About moonsault and your question! I never saw Iyo Shirai(sky) miss one! In many cases she lands exactly like she needs to, in some cases that would be hips, but newer mises completely when it needs to connect. That's became my little observation game, because I was amazed by her skill and now I pay attention to that even more. That's interesting enough that she liked Mysterio and his style, when he also has such a good skill with that move.
As someone who is struggling with knee pain and ive never jumped off the top rope i can tell you i could barely walk for a month and every step was pain. I cant imagine having to do that every night
I’m thinking knowing how Taz is he probably chuckled at you while pulling you up asking”you good kid?”😂 Absolutely love your style of storytelling and breakdowns sir
Congrats on building a successful YT channel. I am proud of your come back after years of being off the spotlight of wrestling. Your podcast with Taker was great.
You know what, you are a natural salesman. Most advertisements in the middle of the videos feel like they’re just crowbarred in. Yours are smooth and slide in like nobody’s business.
At 11:55 the way ref Nick Patrick sells the missed Moonsault is gold too! Or was he selling at all? Maybe he thought "Oh daaaayum. This kid fucked up! That must've hurt!" hehe You should do a video about how everyone in the ring interacts with each other Mav. Like how the ref always squeezes the Wrestlers hands after a good bump...
Hey Maven Guys here. It sounds like based off your experience, there's almost no good/great finishers that doesn't hurt to do night in and night out. There are two moves that I can think that would be great, the problem is that you have never taken them at any point in your career. One is what was formally known as The Steenilizer which was formally used by Kevin Steen (aka Kevin Owens), which was a bridging package piledriver or powerbomb whatever you want to call it. Might be painful to take, but doesn't hurt to do, and looks incredible. The other is known as The Dragon Screw Neck Whip. Possibly the scariest move to take based solely on it's apperence. Essentially a twisting ddt /neckbreaker given to someone drapping from the top rope. Would love to hear your reaction to these moves Maven.
@@dtester That one is one of the worst in my opinon. I'm always thinking "just bite his hand, that's how you escape it" But regardless a great comment.
@@lewismaclean8849 It's a nerve pinch! 😆 Just came to mind that the "striking" finishers are usually painless. Maybe a running drop kick would have been good for Maven since he had a good drop kick.
Hey Maven can you make video talking about how wrestlers come up with their moves, does creative choose the moves for the wrestlers and if you are required to stick with certain moves even though you dont like them.
This channel is such a great way as an introduction to professional wrestling. I have no interest in the sport but this is amazing. Maven you are great for the art.
Question for you maven... Have you ever had to take a brain buster ? If so how devastating is that move? Also if not do you know guys that used it and got hurt by it ?
@@MavenKHuffman that's awesome man! I really appreciate the reply Maven! God bless you man! When you get a chance if you didn't watch backlash this year... check out Kevin owens brain buster to toma Tonga that was nasty and on top of chairs!
Hearing about your knee impacts is giving me sympathy pain! Thanks for all your sacrifices in and out of the ring, Maven! I do have a question, if you see this comment or if anyone else knows the answer: What was the company's overall feelings on knee pads? I've seen some wrestlers use them religiously while others go without. I know if I was in that ring I wouldn't want to leave those behind.
iirc the move wasn’t designed to make direct contact. it was landing next to the guy so close it sold it.. but the margin of error was so thin and the move was brutal on the neck and spine sub-concussive hits and chair shots ruined his brain more than anything
@@juiceekay7428allegedly, and new jack sure as hell wasn't one to talk, intentionally hurting people he was working with on more than a couple occasions.
@@kamenanew9867 New Jack was crazy AF & nearly killed Mass Transit & the guy he chucked off 40 ft. But at least these were guys he beefed with & NOT his wife & kids.
This has nothing to do with wrestling, but I figure I let someone know that my favorite pair of Kit-Kat socks have holes in them, and I am very upset about this.
It’s interesting you mention the backstabber, because Carlito has said before about regretting it being his finishing and it has caused him a lot of pain and injury of the years
Maven could do a video about the stretching routine you do And what you do to be able to live a healthy active life despite Injuries or pain you are dealing with Thanks for sharing your experience
That was an absolute beautiful moonsault. You were floating. I'd even say that beats any moonsault I've ever seen from any WWE performer past or present. That was so damn elegant.
Maven you may have been a mid card guy, but at the end of it all you might go down as the GOAT wrestling RU-vidr. You deserve it man. Keep entertaining the masses brother.
Hey Maven! Your videos are always so well written, paced, and performed. But I think you and your talented team foibled a little at 14:00 xD! You're supposed to be helping us imagine what it was like as non-wrestlers, but then you just describe climbing up on the top rope and slamming your knee on the mat. Maybe an analogy about jumping from your kitchen counter onto a thin mattress? I'm sure you guys could come up with something better :)!
Hey Mave, got a question about entrances. You talked before about music but I would to hear about the other things that go along with it. It seems the budget for the top guys is so high for some of these big entrances.
It would be cool to see you talk with Stevie Richards as he is doing a little series breaking down how painful hard-core spots are so you two could probably have a cool collaboration video.
10:52 yeah eventually doing the moonsault as a finisher for years totally ruined Keiji Mutoh/Great Muta's knees and its why he started doing the Shining Wizard
New found respect For Maven and all the Superstars who put their bodies, even their lives on the line just to entertain us the fans. So thank you to each and every one of you.
Man, I tell you. Your videos really do give an insight into what you guys might be thinking. Like the spinning heel kick. You mentioned that sometimes you wouldn't feel anything. Other times, they stopped the flow of your body and caused the awkward landing. I see why a lot of performers wouldn't want to work with others, and not just from an ego standpoint. Physics is something that can't be scripted when you are with someone twice your size and they have to flow with you.
I surely do appreciate Maven. Even tho he don’t like to admit it he had a pretty big impact on the ruthless aggression era. We appreciate you Maven no question and to be honest you had one of the more kick ass entrance themes with Behind the stars. Solid theme, solid wrestler and overall a solid dude. Hall of famer in my eyes. Tuff enough winner, wrestlemania moments, Royal rumble moments, hardcore title, crazy deal with undertaker. Pretty badass when you think about it. Hall of famer all day.
