Eric Clapton and Paul McCartney perform George Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" at the Queen Golden Jubilee. 3 june 2002 Phil Collins on the drums Ray Cooper on the percussion
I love the sheer legendary presence on the stage. Eric Clapton , Paul McCartney , Phil Collins playing Roger Taylors drums with Queen written on it. Just brilliant
I'm crying & singing this at the same time as a tribute to George Harrson & of not forgetting the great John Lennon as well, RIP George & John you are not both forgotten,
This song is simply awesome... more than forty years since it was first released on vinyl, I get goose pimples every time it gets played. Clapton simply have not lost the magic touch and is as cool as ever. His humility is an example to all aspiring guitar players that you can be great rock icon and a gentleman at the same time.
A great performance. It's always wonderful to see original artists reuniting to perform their most memorable songs, in honor of those no longer able to.
That's just crazy. Plain and simple. Nobody even comes close to the pure love Jimi made to his guitar while he played. Sure, there's been faster, and sure there's been maybe more soulfull. But Jimi had it all, he had the stage performance, he had the skill, the soul, the whole package. That's very rare.
no one, NO ONE will ever performe this song as George used to. even performed by Paul and Eric it sounds cold.. i think this is the best song ever written by George Harrison and it makes me love him and miss him more and more every time..
wow man :)... there's just something about his playing n feeling that makes me watch this vid over n over again :) i cant get enough of Clapton :):):) i want that tone badlyy!!! :(
Now that was the first time I think I really noticed him - I wasn't a great Elton John fan but when he toured out here in '87 or around then I got front row tickets just so I could see Ray Cooper - my favourite film with him is the Eric Clapton unpugged where there is quite a generous amount of footage of him playing. Thanks for commenting - nice to talk to another person who appreciates Cooper :)
Este evento se realizó a meses de haber fallecido George. Se extraña mucho y sin duda Paul y Eric más aún. George vivirá para siempre mientras viva su música hermosa y profunda
i think Clapton's guitar sounded beautifuly melodic in this. YES RAY COOPER is a great performer and it is a joy to listen and see him playing. Have you seen the video of him with ELTON JOHN playing in russia in 1979? What a show he made !
For those that don`t know Paul and Jonh told George that this beautiful song wasn`t be recorded in the White album. Next day George brought along his friend and told them I want the music in the album. Who was the friend? He is the one above E,C so they had to agree. That is the true history you all can check. MASTERPIECE BY G.HARRISSON
True. Clapton actually missed the famous concert then cause he was too wasted, as he wrote in his autobiography - one of the moments he regrets most in his life. That´s why he was so happy to perform at the "Concert for George" years later and put so much heart in that song that night.
I love this song so my I have 3 versions. Harrison, McCoy, and Clapton. I am proud to say that my first album was the Beatles White Album. Vinyl not the digital stuff either.
And you think that Paul and Jonh said no to George when they heard this awsome tune. Almost did not made into the White album, So the next day George brought Eric along to play and they finally accept and the rest is history, Tha best Beatles song,,,My humble opinion.
I think the tone of the guitar is perfect and to me it says "Yes it is a lot better with two, but that will never happen again, so I will cry alone." and the tone is a true weeping for Clapton's lifelong friend and he is standing there and pouring his soul out through the instrument. Would be more beautiful if someone muted Paul's piano and mic since he doesn't seem that arsed about it.
sadly I do not know when will see such great British talent ever again ? Sir Paul, Eric Clapton and Phil collins-- these names are not only made in UK, they rules the whole world. These music talents with their creation ruled the other side of the Atlantic for years and still do. sadly music in UK now-a-days is suck. Its a shame I hardly can name a quality rock band from UK today.
In 1970 Clapton switched to strats buying 3 of them - "Blackie" was born. In 2004 "Blackie" was sold at auction to support the Clapton charity Crossroads Center. It was purchased by Guitar Center for just under $1millionUS
Yes, I agree totally to "markriobr" that this song belongs in the white album, and this live version in front of the queen just proves how good/powerfull it is. Rock on George/Eric!
I reckon Eric wud have walked out on stage going, I wished my best friend George was here so I could have one of our epic guitar battles at the end, he did it for Bangla, did it for Princes Trust in the 80's, 2 epic concerts, but it will never be able to happen again :(
This vid is actually from a concert put on in the grounds of Buckingham Palace for the Queen's Golden Jubilee (50 years as queen). She's the grey haired lady at the beginning of the video sitting next to Prince William & Prince Harry.
the notes he plays at 2:29-2:35 and again at 4:37- 4:42 are simply stunning fitted into the solo, he is a real genius,he plays so delicate, hes pure unpretentious and unadulterated talent, if he ever passes i really do not know what ill do his music is my life.(i must sound really lame now) lol
lol yes.. (if you didnt find out 9months ago) phil played drums with paul mccartney, eric clapton, Queen(brian may and roger taylor), ozzy and toni iommi(of black sabbath),prince,sclub7,cliff richard, joe cocker, rod stewart ALL IN 1 SHOW/DAY!!!
2 rock mammoths on 1 stage.. but i saw the same song performed by dhani harrison, steve winwood and prince man that was cool too... especially the solo by prince...
Thoughts: McCartney and Clapton together onstage... unsurpassed for coolness. (Occasionally equalled, never surpassed.) For years I thought this "White Album" tune was a goof on Cream (as some of that LP was on other things happening at the time), with some of Harrison's best guitar playing... how stunned I was, years later, to hear that it was Clapton hisself doing the solos and fills... How cool that Eric quoted his own solo, and then expanded on it... more musical Mt. Rushmore.
My dream band is Vocals : Andi Deris Lead Guitar : Kirk Hammett, Eddie Van Halen Rythm Guitar : Michael Weikath Bass : Felipe Andreolli Drums : Lars Ulrich
Genius people are never normal... maybe i´s the price to be paid... And, to complicate things a bit more, those were the sixties and they were all drunk. But, in the end, they were all friends and that´s what really matters, I think. Greetings from Brazil!
(i must sound really lame now) Not at all, at least not as lame as I sound trying to play along with this one. Even if not note for note but just harmonizing its difficult to come close to Clapton's subtle nuances. Of which he pours so much into even the smallest of phrases. But then, thats why he's Clapton. Even within the blues he's been on a never ending quest of evolving personal styles his entire career. An enormous volume of works will be listened to with awe for a long time.
