on this night, the darkest evening of the year, my mum would always run us a hot bath, with no artificial light, candles only. we would listen to her read robert frosts stopping by woods on a snowy evening poem, and go to bed early for a long winters nap... i do it myself now
Whoaaaaaaa 🥹 that is so beautiful. Robert Frost is perfect reading for this time of year. ❤️📚 My daughter loves “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening.” 😭❄️ thanks for sharing
What a different upbringing then me. I grew up in the Bronx and I remember cold nights with no hot water or heat. My mother would boil water and pour it into the bathtub for us to shower. Candles and Robert Frost sounds so much more enjoyable. lol
@@cattunick-cabeche789 oh my gosh yes, our hot water ran for maybe 10 minutes, we used to boil and add water to it too… it felt so much like little house on the prairie, so cozy❤️
I am so grateful for your lovely piece of body movement tonight ❤ I was in much need of some peaceful time in the company of candle lights and your soothing voice! ❄️🔥💧And the poem at the end..... wow! It speaks volumes. Thank you ☀️🌬🌨
Loved this! Winter sleigh was a fun and unexpected challenge. I love the creative asanas, but the poems you read at the end of the practice might be my favorite part.
WOW! What a treat to find you today! I'm a seasoned yogi and this was exceptional! Thank you for this lovely practice! I started a new tradition this year of baking my grandmothers cookies and cakes from her recipe book I was gifted at her passing. It's like a hug from her. Happy Winter Solstice!
this was really wonderful, i love all your unique poses & variations. my ascendant is 1 degree capricorn so this time of year is my favorite, i feel the themes of winter correspond perfectly to my personality & lifestyle. the poem you shared i relate to especially as i LOVE the darkness, the long winter nights, i look forward to it all year. Also my favorite evergreen tree is the beautiful ancient southern magnolia! thanks again, namaste x
I've also learned to embrace the darkness! I didn't realize that southern magnolias are evergreens -- youve given me a nice rabbit hole to go down today haha. Thank you for being here and for your lovely comment.
After 14 years of practicing yoga I always welcome all your creative poses! I loved evergreen and winter sleigh, and really all the changes you make in the poses are so nice to give it a change! Thank you Alison :)
Thank you for this beautiful comment. 14 years is such a long time! Thank you for sharing yoga. ✨🙏🏽 I’m coming up on my 10 year anniversary. 😭 it’s been interesting to watch and i how teach and practice evolve over time. See you soon!
I found you today for the first time when searching for a winter solstice class. This class was absolutely beautiful and I will be coming back to check out more of your practices. My favorite evergreen is the concolor fir... their scent is like no other, they are a gorgeous blue minty color, and I love running my hands over their long, soft needles. 🌲
Hiii! I'm so glad you found the channel and enjoyed class. I'm delighted to learn that so many folks have favorite trees! Thank you for sharing yours. I was not familiar with this one!

Thank you!!! So many folks are commenting with their favorite tree it’s been so lovely to read. Thanks for sharing this specific one! I’m gonna look it up rn! 🌲🌲🌲
Wonderful and creative practice! I like to celebrate the solstice by slowing down-definitely incorporating yoga, relaxing/cozy activities and warming foods. My favorite pose was sleigh-mainly because it was a first for me! I always like to try new things. :) Happy Holidays, and thank you!
Yesss thanks for being so open-minded and trying a new pose. I love the idea of intentionally slowing down. 🌲 thanks for being here and thank for the kind words! ❤️✨
This is one of my favorites flows probably EVER! I've never experienced sleigh pose and that was awesome. Thank you so much for your creativity and words every time. Namaste and Merry Solstice
Thank you so much for a - again - wonderful, atmospheric session. The yew just popped up - and, a little bit jealous 😄- the ivy.... I love them all. But last year in Summer I visited a about 1000 year old yew in Engand. And this one wanted to be mentioned today. Love to you, a happy season and thank you so much for your wonderful work! 💖🙏
Oh wowwwwww. I am absolutely awestruck by ancient trees like that. Where was it? I want to look it up if I can! You are so welcome for class. I’m just glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for your lovey comment!
Thank you! I'm having my long private Yule-evening tonight, with a good christmas movie, this yoga, some christmas stories reading, setting an intention, drawing a card and a foot bath. Good times :) Merry Christmas and Vrolijk Kerstfeest!
Finally catching up on all these lovely comments. Your yule evening sounds so beautiful and intentional. I hope it was everything and more. I don't think I've ever seen "Merry Christmas" in Dutch before - is that Dutch? haha Thank you for being here and for your sweet look into your Yule practices.
Woah, I've just discovered you and your practice. I facilitate full moon ceremonies, and I'm a yogi too, so I'm IN LOVE with your concept of seasonal and moon stage flows. Thank you for being brave and putting your inspired ideas out here for us all!!! Cannot currently pick just 1 fav from this video, but I'm thinking I'll go visit the tree that allowed me to harvest it's beautiful top for my Christmas tree last year. I've been waiting for it to recover from such a shocking pruning last year. This spring I will reshape her so that her beauty can continue to grace the landscape in my piece of heaven in BC🌲😍
Aw I love this. Please let me know how it goes with the tree 🌲 I’m so glad you found your way here. And yay for more moon ceremonies out there - I miss hosting those in person. They were almost always women’s circles (organically) and every one was so moving and powerful. I’m sure yours are beautiful! 🙏🏽
This was an absolutely beautiful practice. Exactly what I was looking for. I loved all the flow. Snow sleigh, snow owl 🦉 and opening with the flame candle 🕯 were my favorite. Thank you for what you offer here. Very special one today. Heartfelt ❤

Thank you for this whimsical narration in the class, it was lovely and so creative! I enjoyed the sleigh the most, but everything was so ocmfy. Happy solstice! :)
Thank you Alison, again and again. Your videos are always like gifts for me. And I enjoy these readings so much, I love them and read them every now and then. I really liked sleigh pose. I wish you a blessed winter period. 🥰💙🌲☃❄

Yes I love this channel also. I have been doing yoga for decades now, literally, and I think your channel is my favourite yoga channel, ever! Thanks so much for sharing. My favourite pose was the candle pose and I also really liked the sleigh pose, that was really fun. My favourite ever green is the one on my front lawn growing up that I used to sit under and have picnics with my friends. Happy Holidays to everyone!
Oh i'm finally catching up on all these lovely comments. I cannot thank you enough for your generous words - it means so much to hear that my classes are resonating with you. My favorite tree is the Maple that was in the front yard of my childhood home - so many memories under that tree. Thank you for being here.
happy winter solstice love, thank you for this beautiful practice. italian food is my jaaaammmm in the winter, so bring on the wine, pasta & meatballs baby!!!
SO happy to have found your channel! I loved the candle pose. My favorite evergreen is the Holly tree and I celebrate the winter solstice volunteering for the Waterspirit service in Rumson NJ. You can watch it live on their you tube channel. Peace and Love to all. Om Shanti
I'm happy you found your way here too!! Volunteering over the holidays is such a beautiful seva tradition. Thank you for helping the community. Good to know that it's livestreamed too! Happy Winter!
Beautiful practice, thanks so much. Loved the evergreen pose. Sleigh was a challenge but I managed, great start to the day! As for favorite tree, I don’t know the species name but that spindly pine trees that you see all over Kauai, so lovely.
Thank you so much for this beautiful practice! I love the seasonal transitions and the feeling of starting fresh. So many hide from the beauty and energy that winter gives us. Your practice celebrates this season of looking in, sheltering, resting and healing. Love it!! ❤
Loved this one! Was looking forward to it all day! I loved Evergreen Bough and Evergreen tree. Hard to pick a favourite. My most favourite evergreen tree is a black spruce. We have them on our property at our cottage and they are so beautiful. Blessed Winter Solstice. Thank you so much.
Oh great!! And thanks for sharing about the black spruce. I have been looking up so many trees bc folks have been sharing their favorites. It’s been so fun and a delightful surprise to see that so many people even have favorite trees. 🌳 I love this community. 🤍✨🌲 happy solstice season and happy new year! 🙏🏽

HI there!! And a very warm WELCOME to you! I'm so glad you subscribed. Sorry for the late response. I try to get back to every comment and sometimes it takes a while - haha! Thank you for being a part of this class. Happy New Year to you!
My favorite evergreen tree is a giant sequoia at the park near my home. I think of it as my mother tree.🌲 This practice was such a comfort--I can see myself coming back to it when I need a hug during these difficult winter months. Thank you so much Alison ❤
Ahhh yes the sleigh pose is a deep back bend for the lumbar. Thank you for sharing your experience and honoring your body! I'm glad you enjoyed it otherwise. I hope you're having a lovely winter season so far!
Smiling doing the adorable Snowy owl pose! : ) Loved evergreen bough - and sleigh felt sooo good. With the full moon in the window and candles lit, this was awesome to catch up to today! This practice showed me surrendering to winters dark to allow the returning light when its ready, thank you!
Thank you for this poetic comment! I am so glad all of these poses spoke to you. You set such a lovely atmosphere for your practice. I love it! Happy New Year, friend!
So beautiful, thank you kindly, just perfect for today's cloak. I love the poem at the end so much, reframing darkness as a comfort. The leaning evergreen tree was a new one to me, loved it! My fav evergreen is the gentle norfolk pine!
I love how you put that “reframing darkness”. I have definitely been learning to love the winter more and more thanks to this work. I’m glad it’s resonating with you. 🙏🏽 I’m looking up the gentle Norfolk pine now. I just love the name! ☁️🌲☁️
I swore I saw a new Dec 2023 Full Moon Yoga pop up on my recommendation and now cannot find it. Am I missing it? Or did I never even see one? Not sure what my brain is doing lol
Thank you for another great session. I did this one , two days in a row , two reason ,one since I loved it and two coz I can . You are a great story teller with your words and I enjoy them. Sleigh pose is awesome as is yoga. I Am I get to learn from your wisdoms 🌻🌹🙏❤️💕🌈🌺
This was a beautiful class!🩷🩷 it was so nice given it’s a dark night it was so refreshing! It definitely made me feel better after! My favorite pose has to be sleigh pose it was so fun I love those different type of poses! So excited for the next class! 🤌🏾🤌🏾
Gurlllllllll my my my that sleigh pose/ lotus 🪷 was freaking phenomenal i loved the opening i felt in my quad. Loved the everglades toooo..fudgeee gurl i loved it alllll..#moonmedicineyoga
I love the combination of yoga and seasonal footage. I'm so delighted to have found this channel. My favorite evergreen is the Ponderosa Pine which reminds me of my childhood. Thank you!
A beautifully planned practice - thank you for the delightful goodies of solstice specific poses. I love many evergreen varieties - and one of my favs I see almost daily is a cypress. I am partial to the hindu goddess Sarasvati and greet this cypress as Sarasvatree and always give her a little hug:)
We have Bristlecone Pines here in Nevada and they are my favorite pine. I am impressed with their ability to thrive and they are usually very old. They have learned to live in harsh conditions so they are often short (like me), uniquely shaped by the wind, and thick in the trunk (like me).
Oh i have such a deep love for old trees… ugh. I have only ever been to Vegas and had layovers in Nevada - I'd love to go and stay for a while sometime. Especially now knowing that there are cool pines there. I giggled at your physical comparison to the pines as well - lol! Thanks for being here.
Thank you so much for this inspiring yoga practice 🙏. Winter sleigh was my surprising and challenging part. My evergreen tree is Christmas tree planted for more than forty years in the garden . Wish you all a merry Christmas 🎄
So good! There was a giant Blue Spruce tree in the front yard of my childhood home that I spent a lot of time sitting under in that perfect hiding spot. I only realized much much later, as an adult, how much that tree served to protect me emotionally and spiritually from the chaos around me. Thank you for the lovely practice and reminder of my old friend 🌲
aw thank you for this lovely comment. i feel the same way about a big maple in the front yard of my childhood home. I can still smell her fallen autumn leaves... its makes my heart ache, in a good way :). I'm so glad your spruce was a place of solace for you. thank you for being here.
I do have a favorite pine tree hahaha! It is the tree at the house I grew up in. It started small like me but is not so, so tall. Several beloved pets have their resting place between its roots and even though it is no longer a part of my family, I remember it.
Oh this is so beautiful 😭 i was pleasantly surprised to read so many comments with favorite trees. Yours hits me right in the heart though… I relate deeply. ❤️✨ thank you so much for sharing. It’s lovely that this tree has a home in your memories.
