Whipsnade zoo is the largest zoo in the UK. It opened in 1931 and is set in 600 acres of beautiful parkland on the Chiltern hills north west of London.
If you stay here at Lookout Lodge, in one of these very comfortable lodges, you’ll get dinner and breakfast. You’ll also have guided tours of the zoo in the evening and the next morning, when the zoo is closed to everyone else.
The zoo is home to more than 10,000 animals, many of which are endangered in the wild.
Whipsnade leads international breeding programmes which help to protect the genetic health and diversity of the species.
Some of the species at the zoo are critically endangered or even extinct in the wild, so breeding programmes are important for the survival of the species. Where possible, the zoo releases animals into the wild.
