Bass-baritone, 72 yr old. Used to have a solid chest high A, rough-sounding high C. Until your vid, my highest chest or falsetto was high g; your technique got me back to the high C including the ability to go full voice falsetto! So I'm back to again singing Captain Corcoran from HMS Pinafore including the optional high A in "Fair Moon." Cool! 🌹

Love this explanation! I am so fascinated by the words and analogies people use to describe this function of the voice, because unless you can recognize that you carry too much weight in your top, you don’t really understand what “effortless” singing feels like. Took me YEARS to recognize and combat the effort I naturally employed to sing. Brava!!!

This is a great tutorial! Thanks Julia. I had a classical singing training with my opera singer teacher but we did not focus much on singing with whistle. I am a lyric tenor who aspires to be a countertenor. I can do whistle but I did not have much understanding of it and its proper, easy technique until I saw your video.😀

I love this. So clear. I love that you make some imperfect sounds, just like a real human being! :-) These "non-performance" sounds can be incredibly helpful for vocal practice.

Brian, thank you so much for that feedback! Yes, I truly believe these "imperfect" sounds can help us even more than the polished ones! Isolating the vocal functions are so important!

It’s spring break for me so I figured I might as well try to learn how to do this 😂 where do you feel the upper extension resonating? (I’m a senior in my classical training so hit me with all the terminology)

Wow. That was great. The about to retch while brushing tongue clue found my whistle knots for me. I was trying too hard. Once I found that I knew it was correct because it’s effortless. Tell me though what is normal range of a whistle voice for men/women?

Hi , the sound that comes out when I do the tongue exercise is heavy I don't feel like I'm doing whistles. it sounds like the sound of a teapot when it whistles and the water is ready but I find that the sound is not light.

I am always using my super head voice when singing and now I'm trying to learn how to access whistle register. Is it a super head voice just sliding up or is it a completely different thing? I hope you could answer my question and help me understand. Thank you.
@hyun808
@hyun808 4 года назад
WHistle is a totally different register. Head voice is connected and uses full voice. Whistles are disconnected and only the end of vocal chords connect and requires very little air and sounds different too.

You're welcome! Yes, it does take some trial and error and can be tricky, but when it is found, it is the easiest thing in the world.

Aren’t there two types of whistle voice? Like glottal and the one in opera?
@MrKONEWKO
@MrKONEWKO 4 года назад
Do you ever use whistle register on its own in operatic singing? Like if youre a coloratura. Or just super high head voice?
@VoiceWithJulia
@VoiceWithJulia 4 года назад
In traditional operatic singing, pure whistle tone isn't used. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean that a coloratura at one point hasn't used it ever on the stage. But typically, the whistle register is blended with the other registers- so a coloratura would be singing in "reinforced whistle".
@JO-tw5yd
@JO-tw5yd 4 года назад
Voice With Julia how can we access that reinforced whistle?
@VoiceWithJulia
@VoiceWithJulia 4 года назад
@@JO-tw5yd GREAT question... So, the reinforced whistle uses elements of whistle voice to create a viable operatic sound. It can't be taken as high as pure whistle, but has more uses. I suggest taking a look at my latest video as I give some exercises for accessing the reinforced whistle. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6-KbXbXiXrI.html

My vocal range low nots F2 higt nots in chest voice D5 wistlle register C6 my voice tipe is?
@VoiceWithJulia
@VoiceWithJulia 4 года назад
Hi Alex, although vocal range is one of the markers of voice type, it is not the main indicator. Voice type is primarily determined by passagio points (places of registrational change) in the voice and the tessitura (group of notes) that feels most comfortable and where your voice "blooms". This is impossible to know without hearing your voice and working with you. However, given your range, I can pretty much guarantee you are a male voice (LOL) with a large range. That's wonderful!

I must play this video again. One moment the instruction is to keep the tongue high at the back: next thing you know it's stick the tongue out, which ensures it's low everywhere. ??? PS is there a reason that the video is switched left to right ? 😉
@vojvodkinja
@vojvodkinja Год назад
The point is to free the space in the throat (if i'm not mistaken) so that the back of your tongue is not clogging the throat. Correct me if I'm wrong, fellow singers.
