Thanks, Simon. The cake looked delicious. We are staying in the West Cilff area. By the end of our first week, we would have done more than 199 steps. In the 2nd week, we are staying near The Paddock. Hope to meet you and Carol again. We walked to Sandsend today, and the weather was lovely. And it was approximately 6 miles, there and back. Chin Chin. Gary & San x😊
My Auntie Olive - my father’s sister-in-law - used to live in the basement of the house that is now the Jet Museum - used to call in on her last thing and we would then climb up the 199 steps - and, yes, there are one hundred and ninety-nine of them - I counted them once! Incidentally, the BBC adapted Dracula once and it featured a shot of those steps!
Hello Sir Simon was 199 steps the Alfred Hitchcock film that after editing was called " the 39 steps" Loved the soundtrack on your walk. The journey to the top, would I have to say be beyond me. You, my friend sounded a bit wheezy. Me I'd be breathless, literally with out breathing, slumped in a heap. Even that smashing looking carrot cake could get me up and running. Some supurb views on route. And at the top fabulous. Tally ho🐴🦊🐕Allan&Family
There is a nice little cafe at the bottom of the steps we like to go into when we holiday in Whitby, it is to the left of the last few steps. The cake is great and you get decent sized pieces too, nice coffee and the cost is reasonable, and the music is supplied by real vinyl albums. Good video too. We found a good fish and chip shop too and the prices were very reasonable certainly a lot less than £11 for fish and chips.
Hiya Simon, me and my Wife met you in Wetherspoons last year and you gave us a lovely shout out on your next video. I proposed to Karen at the top of the 199 steps in September 2020 and I bought her engagement ring from Sellars jewellers on Sandgate Whitby and we married the following year. Whitby will always be our special place and we are there next for a week in March. You bring this beautiful magical place into our homes every week with your wonderful videos. Keep up the fantastic work and hopefully drop on you for a chat in March. The Vino Collapso's are on me 😊😊 Chin chin and best wishes John and Karen x
You are so right, everything seems expensive. I admit I used to smile/laugh/sneer at those folks who brought their own sandwiches/pack up & flask of coffee to the seaside/theme park/days out. Tight wallets was my attitude. I’m sorry I was a touch arrogant in the past. These days I prefer to take my own food and save my very hard earned money. Don’t get me onto the cost of parking.
It is expensive to go on holiday, especially as a family. I understand why in the past people used to say it was cheaper to go abroad. I think home-made picnics with a flask are more fun & maybe leave the expensive meals for a treat 😊👍
Hi Simon, walking the 199 steps is oh so easy watching someone else doing this 😂 you have certainly got a glorious day for filming. I didn't know there was a Café at the YHA, the carrot cake looked yummy! Always enjoy watching, this video was simply perfection at it's very best!!! Thank you for sharing, love to you & Mrs M, take care chin, chin 💜
Came here in July my wife and I both in our 50's no problem for me my poor wife had to stop wheezing like an asmatic pit pony 1/2 way, whilst a 70 year old blitzed passed her we met them at the top and apparently they do a lot of walking.Had a drink in that cafe also lovley views. I am not tight I knew whitby was expensive you have to factor that in if you visit but some places do have your eyes out for food and drink.
It's £38.70 actually Simon..😂😂. Another great insight into your great town... visited it many times and will be again very soon.. keep them coming 'Mate'😂👍🏴
Simon, the Abbey House is opening its doors for a nose around on Wednesday 7th September as part of the Heritage Open Days event, if anyone is interested.
I watched a vlog on "Gary Eats" where he reviews different eating establishments and take aways. He went to Hull and bought the cheapest fish and chips, with mushy peas for.... £3!!!! Pity it's too far away for us, but he must be doing a roaring trade! It's diabolical the price of eating out these days, I don't know how people afford it I really don't 😢
