The worst part about Pinterest, is that even after typing out “Black Woman/en” it will show a pin of a YT girl with the NOIR FILTER 😡 This is why (when I had to recover my account) I searched only black women for a week straight so my feed and suggestions are specifically catered to melanin, and I rarely click on non-melanated pins so my algorithm doesn’t get wrecked 😩

Not only is it hard for black influencers, chile its hard for black viewers. it took me YEARS to design my feed to cater to me, and who I am as a black woman. Minority influencers, mainly black females/males are being erased; links are tampered with so ppl can't find them (black music artists); making it impossible for them to receive royalties/compensation or proper credit for their work + which goes into another story of getting their work stolen and etc. This is done to keep us in a certain tax bracket and still oppressed. It can lead to an increase of fake news, and can create serious ramifications/ consequences for society. Completely true, as a data scientist, all AI and machine learning algorithms are biased, in large part because their input information ends up being bias. Hi Toni it’s really irresponsible to promote a deepfake app. This helps AI learn to make deepfakes that are very realistic which is extremely dangerous because people will use it to spread misinformation and harmful messages and make it look like an influential person really said it. Please think of the consequences when accepting sponsorships like this.

Honestly, promoting better help is worse then this and people still do it even tho it caused so much harm to people. You can't really control and run away from every single app that can potentialy cause harm. People blackmail, badmouth and make fun of others every day on youtube, instagram and other prominent apps. And now I understand why my parents pressured me to be THE BEST at school , But even if you're good, when they've seen your skin color, it's over😕🤷🏾‍♀️

Yeah…the ad and conclusion to this video weren’t great. I feel like I was just told I have to be in Tik tok watching genres of content I’m not interested interested in (lifestyle, day in the life, etc). Though I’m fully on board with the obvious yt double standard, I’m not really interested in propping up capitalism to support the black community on a Chinese app.

The point is at the end of the day content creators have to eat. If a company reaches out wanting to work with a black creator and property compensate them I really don’t see the issue. I am very selective of the brands I work with. I get many sponsorship deals that I turn down on the regular.

It’s so true, when I saw Alex Earle, I was like who? Then I looked at her page and I realized she’s white, conventionally pretty and skinny, it makes sense. As a Mexican woman, I actively make sure a majority of who I follow are POC. I shouldn’t have to actively be un the trenches trying to find these people but I do because they are not recommended to me.

The issue is that black content creators started off on a bad precedent. I maybe be wrong but I do believe that alot of black content creator suffer from low self esteem that is why they accept free product instead of money. So these companies do not see the value that black content creators bring to the table because they do not value themselves. Also, as black people we need to learn to be unified as a community. If we truly want these company's to see our value, we should blackball them and promote small black businesses. We should empower our own businessess.

Love this perspective, we need more representation but most importantly to support our fellow old, new and upcoming creators. Jackie Aina, Destiny Godly, golloria and so many others spoke on these topics of incorporating more diversity and inclusivity but if we don’t actively apply pressure nothing will change. We have nonsense urban platforms like The Shaderoom, tearing down black influencers and celebrities and it’s scary to see the comments of people feeding into the mess. The divide is scary

I'm mostly on RU-vid and tumblr for the photo ands the videos. I've been on RU-vid for years and I started to come here fir afro hair videos and now my feed is pretty much well curated. Concerning tumblr I think it is way way to curate it than Instagram. Plus, My Instagram is all about nail artists now and I'm glad it is like this. I will still support black women influencers and content creators but I completely agree with you and to be honest I think it is worst than it was 10 years ago. I stopped to have hope when I saw the shift when biracial girls get more praised than bw for their hair content... Anywauz keep going girl.

As someone who draws using Pinterest for reference photos, I always try to find diverse subjects and it's so frustrating that I have to specify almost all the time in order to get different ethnicities/ body sizes. I feel bad for all the young POC kids on social media who have to specify and might internalize that "otherness" :(

hey love I'm new to your channel but I just wanted to say that everything you said is true. as a black content creator I struggle to even have the drive to make content on my tiktok. I make shopping videos and what's in my bag videos etc. and I only get about 200-300 and something views that's it. but when I look up white content creators doing the same as me they get 1.4k or 1 million views and likes. its very sad and disgusting how these companies treat us. and the fact that black content is getting stolen on this app and tiktok says nothing about it is unfair. And the fact that a white content creator can cuss and talk a lot of shit on live but when you are black or Mexican etc you get blocked and sent to tiktok jail. its really stupid bro how America china and etc countries treat us. smh we need our own app

This situation is rightfully frustrating. Once a upon a time the internet was seen as this potential equalizer. People ignorantly believed that the internet was different and potentially more meritocratic. It was obviously untrue, but it’s still hard seeing the systemic racism in full display. Some people see that and come in super defensive. It’s really impressive how you made it clear where your frustration was directed, and showed a lot of respect to all the creators you spoke about in order to reach people who might be defensive. Obviously you don’t have to do that, but your ability talk about such an emotionally fraught concept while keeping the general vibes uplifting is really impressive and I think a useful talent.

Well as a turkisch girl I think you are right in the beginning I loved watches white content creaters but as I get older I really love to watch black content creaters because I think I can relate to them more. Culturally. I think that when you watch white content creators it looks fake but when I listen or watch black contect creaters I feel like they are more legit. They see us like we are ghetto in someway. Yeah my skincolor is white but I am not treated like I am white. They view us barbaric 😂.

My daughter said that people don't want super polished content on Tik Tok regarding production values. That is why a lot of people prefer Tik Tok to Instagram, because the production is less polished. I'm a professional photographer and my daughter has asked me to do more video for a photoshoot of her and that she also doesn't want the video to look too professional. Ugh, I love high end production. Reminds me of when Grunge era came in style in the music industry. Highly produced music was out of style.

Thank you for this! So so eye opening. As a white woman, I have to proactively seek out content from black creators to diversify my online world… bc the algorithm will not often push black creators to me. I love your channel and watch a lot of your content but I’m not a huge commenter just in general. This time I’m commenting on this one in hopes that it gets pushed to more people like me who would benefit from seeing this but would otherwise never get this pushed to them.

I think it's ridiculous that more diverse influencers get shortchanged over the same Barbie blond hair blue eyed IT girl as in times past (Paris Hilton etc) - I feel like it's ppl trying to fight diversity in social media and clinging to the past. also, them trying to impose their narrative that that's what all women should aspire to be, to make us feel inadequate. as a Latina, I find it disheartening how much they want to still push down all POC creators.

Sadly, we know this is common across all sectors of society. The younger generations are sadly having to discover that black people have to often be twice as good and even then we are not recognized. Ultimately we have to be savvy in these spaces especially on the business side to get the recognition and compensation we are due. I known many people don’t want to hear this, but we have to keep fighting.
