"White women can't wear black women hairstyles" Why not? How many DECADES have black women been wearing white woman hairstyles with no problem? Black women better stop the cap!
B women on average do it right when B women wear straight and wavy weaves, wigs and chemical processing/coloring. Yt women don't always do it right when they try to wear locs/braids so it looks funny, awkward at times not at all good on them. Now if more Yt women who want to wear braids and locs learn what works for them and it looks good then that would slow down a lot of looks and stares because sometimes it's the simple fact that they do not know what they are doing. I had a young yt girl on the bus continue to stare me down as if she wanted to start something with me because she had her hair braided and done up in a bee hive type of bun however she used yarn to do her braid style and it had a rats nest look about it so I just ignored her because she did not realize how bad she was looking.
Thank you for expressing it pretty much exactly as I would. As long as people respect each other and credit each other rightly, I see nothing wrong with people taking what they think is great about another culture and using it for themselves.
Thank you for this. I think that there’s a big difference between actual cultural appropriation (i.e wearing a sacred indigenous headdress) and doing something that is out of the “ordinary” for someone of your race, culture, etc. I’m white and Hispanic and I don’t look Latina to most people. I would hope I wouldn’t be judged based on the color of my skin as just another white girl. I want people to ask about my culture and it’s something I am proud of.
I remember seeing Lisa Bonet and thinking “she’s sooo beautiful, I want to look just like her when I grow up”. I grew up and wore different protective styles. As far as reactions I’ve gotten a lot of love but a lot of shady looks and “gurrrl!” And then laughing. In my mind I just thought it was a beautiful look. I lived in Long Beach. I’m my mind I was bought I was looking like a Ally but I looked like another white person trying to take advantage so I shelved wearing those styles because it didn’t feel good in my heart to make other women feel like I was encroaching on their culture. I still look at styles and think “ oh my gawd I want my hair like that!” . But I just can’t. It’s not fair in my mind.
you wore protective styles? See, this is that BS we talk about . no one was wearing "protective styles" back then to be protective. We started wearing them when we started wearing our natural hair again, and it wasn't when Lisa Bonet became popular. so annoying. and most people are wearing protective styles under wigs , so what are you even talking about?
I do agree that cultures should be shared but I do still remember a time when BW hairstyles were made fun of a looked at as unprofessional by YT America and it’s a bitter sweet feeling for me tbh. I enjoy when people love our culture but due to our history with them folks I can also understand why it upsets people. It’s important to understand that many of today’s YT people are not rcist and actually look up to Us. It’s also kinda hypocritical when we wear their hairstyles all the time. I see both sides.
If black women are the first women every woman would want to Wear her style she is the original woman. Everyone would want to copy her. This is a none issue.
Hi, I’ve ordered through you and received the wrong item. I sent an IG & 2 emails over a few weeks with no response. How can I contact customer service please?
I will say this, yt women need to learn to do it right to where it looks good on them. I have seen yt women wear b womens hair styles and it looks pitiful or just plain disgusting. B women that wear straight and wavy weaves and wigs look good because we do it right. Kim Kardashian looked absolutely beautiful with her hair braided because her hair was thick so her braids had volume but yt women with limp hair trying to wear braids looks 🤔😖😣I am at loss for words. So just learn to do it right and wear a style that looks good on you individually.
I've seen plenty of black women wear ugly straight waves and wigs. It looks like something just sitting on top of their head, no effort at all and all kinds of dumb colours too. Its not exclusive to one race
@@deangullberry5148 Yes sir anyone can wear braids, braids are beautiful just like my hair can at times straighten on its own without intense heat, chemicals or wigs. What's questionable is when a braid style that comes from the b community is worn on a woman that is not "b" and then she is considered beautiful and cutting edge high fashioned however when a "B" woman wants to enjoy her natural beauty and ethnicity she is considered unprofessional, "too ethnic" , unhygienic or not attractive so that is where the frustration comes into the picture they can be beautiful in our hairstyles but we can not.
Blonde hair is a recessive gene so it can be seen on anyone. It's rarely seen on racially ambiguous people like Hmong or Melanesians and in some parts of Africa because they are usually targeted for their hair/eye colour so that means less reproduction of that recessive gene amongst them. I don't disagree with the woman speaking by the way.
The thing is stuff like box braids, Fulani etc pulls yt people hair out. We shouldn’t be encouraging a hairstyle that culturally isn’t for their hair texture. I saw so many yt women hair falling out. And for the yt ppl in the comments black people have straight hair just like yt people can have curly hair.
