Thursday December 3rd
Professor John Campbell OBE
Good Founding - Our Duty of Care.
Recent research has revealed that metals cannot initiate failure by fracture. The initiation sites for fracture are introduced in generous quantities into our metals by our casting processes. However, it is not necessary to do this. New rules for founding, for castings production, are now available to make metals safe against failure by cracking. Helicopters need no longer fall from the sky because of mechanical failure. For the first time, the world has the possibility to achieve reliable metals; metals we can trust.
Please note that the views of invited speakers are not necessarily the views of the Founders' Company.

Thanks for an excellent lecture, the crumpled paper was a great demo

Thank you for your knowledge of casting, I have made many mistakes experimenting with procedures that I learned from RU-vid,, thankfully I have successfully cast some non structural parts such as intake manifold for motorcycles, using tilt casting, before I gained some experience I had no idea how many problems are involved in casting anything. Again thank you.

Are there companies that manufacture and sell counter gravity mold filling based smelting furnaces out there?

On behaft of american metallurgist - thank you for advancing the art and science of cast metallurgy. I would like to know if you have reviewed the "Giga" press that Elon Musk is using - seems to me the velocities and flow patterns shown on U-tube seem to violate several of your rules? As for "good metal" is calcium metal treament of aluminum acceptable?

The Tesla aluminum fills he mould in milliseconds. However based on the grapevine, it does look like they have very high scrap rates.

The gigapress operates more like an injection moulding machine where the injected metal is not subject to direct contact with the atmosphere. It's also subject to elevated pressure until the casting freezes so what bubbles there are, are much smaller.
