Wouldn't it be awesome to find even just 1 gold coin in the wild? Let me know in the comments which metal detector you would like me to do a VDI series on next!

Once the coin is in the ground the VDI numbers can change, sometimes as much as 10. Your best bet with the V3i is the understanding and use of the polar plot feature
@hkstrongside
@hkstrongside 3 года назад
Ya, the ground mineralization changes the vdi quite a bit sometimes. And I agree, the Polar Plot is the bomb on identifying if targets are trash. I love that feature.

Very nice, thanks alot we v3i owners were missing this information, I never tougth to find any gold coin in the 36 id that got me to rethink my disc numbers.. Thanks man!! That was gold.

thanks for sharing very cool...the v3i is a unique machine really comes down to where you are searching dig it all discriminate later! those higher VDI numbers are getting dug anyway it's the lower range can be tricky .pulled 2 gold rings few silver coins last season with an MXT, I am just beginning my quest with the v3i. take care
@hkstrongside
@hkstrongside 5 лет назад
Congrats on the success with your MXT. I love that machine. The V3i is a beast. The 3 frequencies are awesome. You are right on the nose with the lower VDI’s. In one of my Nickels videos I run a piece of trash that rang 47. Same VDI as the gold Rooster. Got to dig! Love your quote, dig it all, discriminate later. Can I steal that?! Ha ha! Good luck this season!

Those are really interesting machines. I don't know anything about them, though. I see that the V3I is quite pricey for a retired person. Thanks for sharing.

There are a lot of great machines out there. The more expensive they get it seems the more features they have to try to keep you from digging garbage. But I think everyone starts to realize, the less you dig, the less you find. There is a funny saying, "Dig everything, discriminate later!"

Good Stuff! Thanks for the video. Got my V3i just a couple of weeks ago and I'm liking it. I already like polar plot so I''m heading over to check out your other videos. 1835 5$ - What a sweet coin. I totally want one but my pockets aren't that deep, so I better find one.

Congrats on the new detector Travis! You are going to love it! And thanks for for the sub. Certainly check out the V3i series. Lots of good stuff. Ya, wouldn't that be the coolest find ever? Sack of old gold coins! Hey as a backup to finding one of those with the detector , you could find gold rings, sell those and get that $5 Classic coin. Good luck, I want to hear about that gold coin when you get it!

Thanks for the video and what an awesome collection of gold coins! Being that some of these fall into the range of the penny, wondering if you could do a spectrograph comparison between the gold coins and a pennies?
@hkstrongside

Thats a great idea. I will put it on the list of vids I need to make. Thanks for the suggestion!

So it does not has a define VDI for gold the range for it is 36-91 and maybe more.
@hkstrongside
@hkstrongside 4 года назад
Correct. But like other coins, gold coins have general signatures. It's just harder to learn them since the majority of us will never come across one in the wild. But, same with gold rings, the signatures vary all over the middle of the range. The one thing you can count on however is that the ping will be very strong. So it may seem like a VDI you don't want to dig, the sound and polar plot will be very consistent. That should be the clue to dig in those ranges.

Agreed. Sometimes I think all the discrimination on these newer machines do us a disservice. Who knows what we are missing out on!

You forgot the Mormon gold , but I liked the video..
@hkstrongside

Mormon gold is #1 on my wishlist for coins. A cool $30k gets you into a very low quality one. I do have a contact that I have thought about connecting up with that has a full premium Mormon gold set worth millions. I just need to make it happen.

Could there be a discrepancy in gold purity for the 2009 $20.00 ULTRA HIGH RELIEF coin? The 1922 $20.00 ST GAUDENS DOUBLE EAGLE and the 1904 $20.00 LIBERTY HEAD DOUBLE EAGLE both weigh in at 33.4400g and both have a VDI of 74, 75. However with the 2009 $20.00 ULTRA HIGH RELIEF coin... the weight is 31.1000g which is much less IN WEIGHT and this coin however, has a VDI of 90, 91? All coins have a fineness of 0.9000! You would think that the 2009 $20.00 ULTRA HIGH RELIEF would be around a VDI of 69,70! Could be an issue with that coin if it has a VDI of 90,91 as that is a silver city reading?
@hkstrongside
@hkstrongside 5 лет назад
It's a great question. I would think that Whites would have mapped profiles into the detector to recognize size, and metal alloys (all coins are an alloy of some kind) to produce a specific vdi range. The 2009 is an odball modern in size and thickness, unlike the more uniform size of the Buffalo and Gold Eagle. Could it be there is no pre programed profile that understands that combo? I want to get my hands on a buffalo and gold eagle modern and see how they ring. They would be similar in diameter of the old big gold, but higher purity. That would tell us how much the purity might affect the reading. As a programmer, I am also assuming that there are preprogramed signatures for coins in Whites detectors to recognize common sizes and alloys. Great question. Sounds like we have some investigating to do!
@mstreasureseeker
@mstreasureseeker 5 лет назад
@@hkstrongside Exactly..... I totality agree on the PROBABILITY of White's mapped profiles, size, purity and most importantly the preprogramed signatures for coins! I have a collection of VDI ranges on anything I could find via videos, publications on the VDI's of metals, purity, size and especially the "gram weight" on gold items whether buried or air tests in my attempts to write up my own "icon table" and somehow they do match up with Whites own! I think its making a decision to bring with you each time you are out detecting an average gold ring with you! A ring that is the average weight, average purity, average size to the soil in your area! Bury it to the "average depth" and do your testings for EMI, noise, mineralization and bring all your settings together to BRING UP the clarity of THAT VDI. Because if you did not find a gold item with all of the settings it really says that if you gridded that location well that there just isnt a gold ring in that location! I do not remember who wrote this but I have this information saved within my written programs for gold... Here it is..."GOLD Karat, amalgam, size all combine to generate the final VDI #. Take two "average size" rings of the same size - diameter, width, total mass, one is White gold and one Yellow gold. The White gold, being mixed with platinum will read +15 or less. If it is flashed with rhodium it will read +5 or less - more like stainless steel. Meanwhile, the yellow gold ring will come in somewhere in the high 20's to mid 30's.The lower the karat and the higher the copper content, the higher the VDI . The larger the ring, the higher the VDI. A ring laying flat will read higher than a ring on edge. You won't do a bit better than the factory C&J program! If you don't want to miss gold, including fine gold chains, accept -6 to +55 and hunt in Mixed Mode." I myself think that Whites programers are spot on! It's just they are seeking out "averages" FOR US USERS depending on ALL of our soils! We all need to understand that the Whites programmers have better data and huh huh much better minds! We all want that special program we keep tweeking and seeking out new programs! In the future what we as consumers need to do is realize that within our NEWEST detectors that they have the most current processors with the most EXPANSIVE GOLD TESTING "DATA" and these old processors "along with that old data" becomes out dated just as fast as our home computers! This can be expensive and especially time consuming due to the learning curve ie of each new machine!

Why do the big coins register vid numbers out of silk screen gold range printed on the detector case. I’ll have to ask whites about that, must be measuring size, or you have silver coins painted gold??? Just kidding, maybe....🙂
@hkstrongside
@hkstrongside 4 года назад
Ha ha... good question. I would be very sad if they were plated for sure. lol. I am pretty sure the size has something to do with it. The silk screen I think is more a guide for jewelry.

Interesting how the 2009 gold coin doesn't even look like real gold when gold has a natural matte look. Not glossy.
@hkstrongside

I would have to agree. I really like the look of "old gold" over the new. The new is too shiny it seems.
