So much fun to watch how these two musical geniuses collaborate. Never gets old! Winger just keeps making phenomenal albums. ❤ And they still sound as good as they did when they first began rockin' in the 80s
Reb Beach is one of these guitarists I love because he shows everyone so much hope with guitar. He can't shred the right hand like Paul Gilbert, yet he plays face melting stuff anyway, his palm muted riffing is so crunchy and tight, and his ascending tapping technique is so innovative. To me he shows that even if you can't develop ultra fast alternate picking, you can still be a monster of a guitar player. He rules.
Reb just kills it. anyone whose ever just let loose like that on guitar will recognize the raw emotion in Rebs face. you just get in the zone and feel it hard. reb is just letting it all out!!
Seriously folks, can you say the two best rock lead guitar players on Earth in one band. Just ridiculously good! How does Coverdale continuously get the absolute best players. Just him and Ozzy!
Reb Beach is up there with the very, very best for me. Hired gun? Who gives a shit. He has had to adapt his incredible, flawless technique to other band's stuff and he still let's his personality shine through. A legend
One of his best works to me was Dokkens Erase the Slate album. He was the best person they could have hired to fix the band after the almost irreparable damage inflicted by Shadowlife
I'm a crazy Reb Beach fan. I've been unable to stop listening to the first Winger album lately. So many great grooves, licks, chops, and riffs on that album. He's amazing. Ever hear of Geoff Tyson? Also amazing and similar in style.
Geoff Tyson was a Joe Satriani student like Vai, so that speaks for itself. The only Satriani student that never applied itself was Kirk Hammett. The rest were all stellar players.
Amazing Grace solo rendition had the spirit...He sang the vocal part on guitar and then did guitar fills in between the guitar vocals...What an emotional performance, although shortened.
I saw Reb Beach with Dokken at a small beach bar venue called Canes in San Diego about 20 years ago.....playing like this made me forget all about George Lynch. Just fantastic. Joel's melodic, operatic playing sounds like its ushering in eternity 🔥🔥
Such a great cover band, saddens me Dave is no longer with us but the joy all the members playing together is awesome! Totally captures the 80's fun! Thank you for sharing!
rebs finger technique is a whole different level from alot of others who have done it and joel is just one of those guys you could blind fold and he still wouldnt miss a note
P.S. Joel and Reb are master Guitar artists, NO doubt, it was awesome even before I found this video I found Joel giving lessons on you tube. WTF YOU Tube, No playing the Vinyl over and over to learn any riff you might need to. Be grateful young artists.
I met joel last week after a TSO show. Had no idea who he was until afterwards haha. Very polite fellow he was ! Wish I knew he was in whitesnake when I talked to him lol
Reb is such a top guitar player, one of the best in the field,i saw him twice with Whitesnake, but with Doug aldrich, another monster guitar player.Joel is on top too.ive seen Steve Vai and Adrien Vandenberg to, many years ago and was a great show,David Coverdale always had good taste in chosing the guitar players for the band.
4:28 It appears someone listened to Liquid Tension Experiment once or twice.. sounds like it's a play on the intro riff to Paradigm Shift. I've never heard of Joel Hoekstra until today, but he's definitely piqued my interest.
Reb never got the true recognition he deserved! I think he was overshadowed by the Winger name. Actors have the same problem getting type cast. He’s pretty darn proficient. And I’ve honestly never heard of Joel, but definitely looking him up! My god that was amazing.
Reb is good, always looks uneasy doing this stuff, not really a show man. Joel is a different beast though, everything a lead guitarist should be, loads of technique, very melodic, looks the part. Top replacement for Doug, who I loved, very humble man. Coverdale would of had his pick of gunslingers, he chose well. Great Whitesnake line up.
+aptaone Joel has gotten great show experience just from being in TSO also. He is also a very humble man. Reb is just rocking period......Doug will be back with Raiding the Rock Vault in Vegas in Nov. First Traci Guns then Doug. It's amazing show. David always manages to surround himself with the best!
Yo that was REALLY good omg lmao. I can't stop smiling. Wow. I've actually never heard of Joel Hoekstra before but I'm definitely a fan now! and Reb Beach is amazing as usual. That fighter jet sound thing he did at the end of his solo was crazy as hell.
Joel just makes me want to burn my guitars every time I see or hear him play. I have played guitar in bands since he was a little school boy and I couldn’t even begin to measure the massive talent gap between us. A guitar GOD indeed !
Doug Aldrich plays a lot like Sykes....and that's a good thing! He rips. Joel is much more finesse and could hang with the finest symphony violinist. Probably why he is great with TSO.
Doug’s a gun slinger. Every time he straps on a guitar he’s either: a) going to break your heart, or b) rip you a new a-hole. He’s so bad ass. Joel’s great too but Doug has more fire.
I think when I was a kid, I imagined what it would look like to be a cool rockstar, and if you had shown me Joel Hoekstra in this clip, I'd have said "Yes, EXACTLY, like that".
Damn, Joel's guitar licks is just incredible! Also that part before amazing grace where he uses delay for that melody accompanied by a pads on the background. I also like Reb Beach's part where he uses whammy bar with that harmonics. Both guitar players are fuckin' great!
Reb is the man here joel is a very good hired gun from tesla , whitesnake , night ranger etc cant put him down he knows his craft but aldridge and reb did it for me I would love to see ADRIAN !!! lol
