Im still finding her in diferent artist but there is none with that heart and soul in that voice. We are talking the passion that goes through that unique voice.

It bugs me when people have the AUDACITY to compare Mariah Carey to her. While I'm a fan of Mariah, I do not believe in ANY capacity that she could come near performances like this. This is what sets them apart. Whitney was a SANGER. She could just sit on a stool with a mic, and SANG. Everything from her lyrical phrasing, to the way she holds her notes, is just MASTERFUL. But above ALL, is her tone. It is like NOBODY before her or after her.

As a prelude to American sporting events, few have topped one delivered by singer Whitney Houston when she sang the Star-Spangled Banner before Super Bowl XXV in January, 1991 in Tampa, Florida. Her rendition came at a particular patriotic time, just 10 days after the US entered the Gulf War overseas. Released as a single, it was re-released after the September 11th terrorist attacks. Her incredible voice mixed with a bare minimum of extraneous notes was a performance to remember. Following her performance during the Super Bowl, Houston decided to carry it over into a concert to honor the troops and their families, and the government and military dignitaries in honor of those returning from the Gulf War. This always makes me cry. She channeled the spirit of Donny Hathaways original live version at the Troubadour (which is also incredible), while also making it uniquely her own. This is so special, you can see every person felt like she was singing directly to them. That’s a gift, RIP Whitney; surely the GOAT ❤️
She is a master class when it comes to delivering a song. No one can perform like this lady. This performance is why she tops the best like Aretha and Patti, she knows her voice and her control is second to none
I've always said that she and Gladys Knight have always been the most emotive singers in the industry. The way they approach the lyrics with so much passion and delivering the message of a song. Never having to do extra runs and screaming and hollering, falling out and rolling on the floor etc. They didn't have to act like they were about to fly away, their voice made you fly. They simply just stood or sat there and you would just be in awe!
Eddie Mae Wilkerson preach! There's beauty in perfect technique (Whitney didn't quite have). But there's perfect bliss in connecting to the lyrics through her voice on a very real and pure level. She's unmatched in this by almost anyone to ever hold the mic

I always like when Kirk Whalum emulate her notes in the song,did you guys notice that when she was hitting the big C5 at 04:28 til 4:35 he was holding the note in the sax too til he can't no more,my gosh so many small wonderfuls details in this performance,so many thing going on...

You know what's absolutely different about Whitney to other singers ..... she is consistent throughout the entire song she is singing....never a boring time or section. Continued consistency in demanding your attention from start to finish! I really don't see much if any other singer having this capability. She was music herself.... she should also be called the queen of music.
No voice touches me like Whitney, I don’t care what people say about her personal issues , she was a gift , both with her music she left us but she truly loved and helped people, we will always have her songs!
A vocal beast..she was killing it with those long sustained notes and that velvety tone which was so uniquely hers. These military guys got such a beautiful and amazing treat to get to see her perform live. Im so jealous and wished i cld have had the chance to experience her singing live. Amazing amazing is all i can say. Donnie Hathaway wld be so proud of her rendition.
I'm so glad that I downloaded all the major songs from this concert years ago and stored them in cloud, so as I've changed cell phones over the years I can quickly add these right back on. Whitney is simply brilliant.
I love Whitney and all of her music. I’m not a fanatic , but I have to say. That for me one of the most strongest beautiful performances aside from the star spangled banner is the rendition of A Song For You............ she gave it all. And really felt the connection .....

What can I say?! This woman's vocal ability is out of this universe, and therefore had, has and will never have any competition!! She is simply in a class all by herself. I mean her rims riffs, vibrato, transitions, belts, emotive ability, diction, lyrical phrasing, tone,melisma and above all, her legendary control are all unmatched and cannot be replicated!! Celine, whitney, and mariah are legends. Whitney did a great performance here and what I love about her is her power and her head voice. Wish this kind of music still exist.
