Whitney gives Barbara a tour of her home, and they sit down and talk about her and Bobby Brown's relationship, all the rumors about Whitney going to a hospital because of over dosing on diet pills, her major influences of her career, and how it was for her bing a child. She also, for the first time talks about her miscarrige.

Well, I remember this interview so well. She was very defensive about her relationship. And in light of what happend, I thought I would find it on RU-vid and here it is. Oh how I wish Whitney would have let go of Bobby instead of holding onto him and defending a bad boy. Her voice, her God-given gift left her after all the drugs and things with Bobby. She was even booed at in Europe. Honestly folks, be careful what you start, because you might not like the ending.

Whitney did "shade" Diana Ross at all, she was just blunt. There was a lot of stuff that Whitney said in interviews that celebs probably wouldn't get away with today. Mainly because back in the 80s/90s there wasn't social media and blogs to sensationalize everything. Furthermore, real Whitney fans know that Whitney was heavily influenced by her cousin Dionne. Whitney's on-stage performance gestures, her "diva bow" and even per personal style (blazers and pant suits) came straight from Dionne. Sometimes I wonder if it was intentional. Look at Dionne's mannerisms when she performed and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about.

It's wasnt shade to Diana, she said nothing negative..she spoke the truth...she wasn't influenced by her because she had influences in her home. Why should she lie and not give the props to her family who actually did influence her.

+IQEllis I don't think it was shade as much as it was frustration of always being compared to Diana. Two very different artists who shared very little territory with one another. Clive Davis admitted to wanting to groom Whitney to be the next Diana Ross. And I'm sure that she was extra sensitive at this time that her first film role was something Diana rejected. By all accounts, the two ladies had mutual like and appreciation for one another.

Hearing her talk about Bobby and those early days in retrospect is really disheartening. You can tell her parents didn't want her to be with Bobby but she didn't want to say it. And then her dad walks her down the aisle and tells her Bobby better take care of her. Yeah right... thank goodness Mr. Houston died before Whitney really got waayyy deep into the drugs. I think him seeing his child like that would've killed him. I'm convinced Whitney's life would've been different if she hadn't met BB.

it's very interesting the concept of fame because I think a lot of singers think like Whitney, all they want to do is sing, act, whatever, and they can't always handel the pressure of the media, producers, excetera, and that's why they end up turning to drugs, Anerexia, alcohol, or what have you. God bless you Whitney. Your voice was truely a gift from God.

This woman still remains my IDOL! No one can ever take her place in my heart. My mother sang gospel. My aunties sang on Broadway. Whitney Houston Is The VOICE! My Mother told me so. She is definitely one of (possibly the greatest) the greatest voices in my lifetime. There will NEVER EVER be another voice and STAR like Whitney. I have to give credit where credit is due & say that Whitney was an AMAZING singer & her talent is unmatched by anyone singing today. R.I.P. Whitney.

That is such a tired line at this point. Berry Gordy LOVED Diana, and for a time she loved him. They have a daughter together and are FAMILY. Their love for each other built a musical empire, it moved mountains for Black people, and quite frankly, Diana Ross was the first worldwide crossover Black star. She does deserve respect And her voice was not the most powerful, but it was certainly one of the very prettiest and expressive.

She would soon grow to admire & appreciate Diana later, & recognize that they have much in common.They were the only two black pop Divas who really had worldwide success, crossover beauty, sought-after in movies (commercially), and marketed in a light of class; yet be controversially criticized in their community as not being “BLACK” enough.This is a Whitney who felt disconnected & found what she thought was true love & didn’t need anyone else per se

The whole interview was edited. I have the same interview with pieces they didn't put in. Even that was edited. She stumbled a lot when talking about Bobby. @mix2up78 In fairness I think that's probably in reaction to the reaction that Diana Ross had to HER when she first came out...I've heard various stories of Diana Ross snubbing or insulting her-and I love them both as well, but it's very easy to believe that Diana snubbed her, just as it's easy to see that Whitney has/had a chip on her shoulder.

I don't think Whitney was sending a diss to Diana.It was, as she said,she did have her own influences in her life.Also,and this may seem like a wrong,preconcieved notion,but for white america,Diana Ross is always the 1st name they think of in terms of a successful black woman.I think it was more of a dig from Whitney that 'Hey,there are more of us then Diana.'But I am sure she and Diana had a lot of respect for each other.

I am sure a Whitney fan!! I’m so upset I didn’t get to see her in concert & revamp her career. Anyways, as much as I love me some Whitney, in ALLLLL of Whitney’s interview it’s so obvious she was holding a lot back & lying to show face especially with her relationships with Bobby’s. Also notice, Whitney would always stand up for Bobby. She wouldn’t say too much. She would beat around the bush. & was very careful with her words. But in Bobby’s book he legit threw Whitney under the bus! in his book, he basically said Whitney ruin his image. He became a target when he married Whitney. How he believes Whitney never really had a miscarriage.. he felt it was publicity stunt to give a logical reason why she married him. How Whitney was speaking bad about him to their daughter, which created a division with his daughter. How she would have security present when Bobby visits his daughter. Whitney introduce BK to alcohol & weed. She would smoke weed with her teenage daughter. How Whitney cheated on him first with varies producers, artists & executives. Pretty much painted Whitney as hoe. How Whitney was basically his downfall! All dat!

part 2 - i'm not saying there is a different standard for men - i'm saying they gossip about who they have slept with more and we all know that men get to their sexual peak before women and when hormones rage they don't always use their brains or hearts as much as they should - I think her brother's said that to give her an objective idea of how young men take advantage of girls and how (as unfair as it may be) society gives women who sleep around a bad rep - basically . . . Bobby DID write that book, he expressed his words to Derrick Handspike, who then wrote the book. Bobby backed out at the last minute, but those were his words Whitney may have been involved with men, but there were definitely rumors about her being gay before she married Bobby. We can do the math and see that Bobby was BONING Whitney and the mother of Bobby Jr at the same time, she knew it and married him anyway. Which gives credibility to Whitney having an agenda when she married Bobby

It's true that Bobby and Whitney loved each other(they stayed married for about 15 years!!) but the Bobby Brown BET movie confirmed that Whitney Houston and the mother of La'Princia were pregnant at the same time!! She gave birth to Bobby Jr. Wouldn't you consider that a HUGE red flag?? Do you think it's a good idea for a woman to marry a man who gets another woman pregnant during their engagement? It looked like Whitney was desperate to be married and start a family.

She said in a interview that she was getting old (I don't think 28 is old enough), she wanted a baby since 1988 and I think that she was tired of the gay's rumours! When Bobby pregnant his ex, it was the right time to break up and take her time. She had a lot of men who was chasing her, she should have waited: the right one would have came.

@naomi love Don't worry about the long comment, this is a COMMENT section, and if you have a LOT to say..Say It, I have no problem with it. I still think Whitney was just DESPERATE(wanted to be married with kids by 30 because she thought 30 was "old", the gay rumors, the "She Does White/Pop Music, She's Not Black Enough" stuff ) and wasn't aware of the right traits to look for in a spouse!! I mean, Bobby had HUGE RED FLAGS, and for someone as rich and distinguished as Whitney not to see the red flags was bad. We've seen from ALL the movies and documentaries on Bobby Brown/New Edition, that Bobby wasn't built to be a devoted, family man at 23 or 24 years old, and Whitney had to have known that!! Whitney's comments about "a good woman changing a man" sounds like something her publicist/team told her to say as a way to present a wholesome image to the public. There was no social media back then in 1993, so celebs could really control their public image, unlike now. It's like I wrote before...WHITNEY AND LA'PRINCIA'S MOTHER WERE PREGNANT AT THE SAME TIME DURING WHITNEY'S ENGAGEMENT TO BOBBY!! Did Whitney really think she could change Bobby after he did that to her...No Chance!!

paved the way in terms of providing black singers opportunities. That is different to being influenced musically by her. People like Diana Ross, Maya Angelou, Rosa Parks, etc 'paved the way" for Oprah but you don't see her singing, writing or showing public disobedience in the name of equal rights do you? "Paving the way" and being inluenced by someone are two totally different things so I'm not sure what your point is with your comment.

@kidmusic28 And u might be right, maybe Whitney didn't need Ross to be inspired by, but u and I both know looking at her reaction to that question when Barbara Walters asked her, she comes off arrogant & disrepectful about Diana Ross in the way she answered. If Diana wasn't her influence THATS FINE, but she could have been a bit nicer in the way that she answered about Diana Ross. After all Miss Ross made it possible to have the kinda success that Whitney could have later on.

Diana reminds me of an old souped-up deuce and a quarter with a new paint job. Every thing on that woman was made up. I didn't fall for the illusion, nor does she deserve respect. She knew how to flaunt her big weaves and put on a show. As a person and a talent, she doesn't get my respect. Sleeping with Record Executives and stepping on your friends to get to the top does not and never will earn my respect. She likes to be called Miss Ross I'll call her "deuce and a quarter Di" with a bad weave.

@beljonn Whatever your personal feelings are towards "WHAT YOU THINK" you know about Diana Ross and who she is as a person is something you will have to work out for yourself.....bottom line is Diana Ross opened doors for Whitney Houston on a much GREATER level than those that were in her family. She still should have responded better than what she did about Ross. Without the contributions Ross made to Music and Film there would have not been a Whitney Houston, Period.

@rockittla And I think u should do ur homework, becuz if u did u would know that for 3 years at Motown the Supremes could NOT get a hit record with Mary/Florence as the lead singers. Once the "BUSINESS DECISION" was made by Gordy to try Ross as lead singer with her different type of nasal voice is when the Supremes started to have number 1 hit records. Diana & Berry had passion & love for each other no doubt but Ross was a STAR in her own right. Know what u are talkin about b4 u speak

If a female and sometimes male does not have kids and is not constantly rumored to be in a relationship, the gay rumors will start!! People are just haters like that. After she died, people posted that she was in a long relationship with a female who worked with her Bobby wrote in his 2008 book that Whitney and her people rushed their marriage because they had an agenda!! That is the ONLY thing I believe Bobby is telling the truth about.I mean, Whitney LIES in this video to justify marrying him

I will give you that Whitney had the better voice. Diana had her talents; she was certainly the better actress... and it is ironic that The Bodygaurd was originally written for Diana and Ryan O'Neal.

WHY WOULD Whitney look to Diana Ross as an example?...i find it annoying that the question was even posed to Whitney. why couldn't it have been Barbra Streisand, Judy Garland or someone? did it have to be someone black merely because Whitney is black?!!? Whitney was irritated by the question(and rightfully so). for her though, it could have partially been due to the ethnic issue but also because, as she said, she had famous folk in her home. why would she need to look elsewhere...

Whitney, wanted to be loved, I don't think that she was gay.Why are gay rumors attached to successful woman? I truly believed she loved BB with all of her heart and soul. She took a chance with BB but she knew enough to have him sign a prenup(Thank God!). In an interview, during the filming of 'I'm Your Baby Tonight' she seemed like she was unsure about getting into a relationship with BB. If we could only turn back the hands of time or have a time capsule, a portal in the closet...or something!
