I always feel like that when I hear these kind of performances... like DAMN!! How can this woman of posessed this voice and felt so good performing and recording, captivating the world and then still not believing in herself enough to love herself like her fans do... Addiction is a powerful thing :( I think she lost her confidence when she lost so much of her voice, it was the one joy that no one could take away... but drugs destroyed it.. Ahhhh
Danny Charles You are absolutley right and that was well said. Whitney knew in her heart what she had, her voice did things that were actually scary some times lol, and hard to believe a human was capable of belting those notes and vocals out without even trying. I think it very much wreaked psychological havoc on whitney knowing what she had and how it was lost. To quote her voice coach. No singer ever could do what whitney did and that is a fact!
So effortlessly ! This is why she is the greatest singer to ever exist . Even any singer will tell you that . No one can compare to nippy . NOBODY ! this right here (Which was a rehearsal) To hear that voice live on stage in all its wonder was truly something to witness. Actually, she sounded better live than she did on recordings, if you can imagine that. Live, she had more freedom to express her feelings, and she was able to improvise much more. And the power that came from her voice was amazing; in my opinion, the physical effort that she put into every performance was unequaled. It was said that on stage she never once complained that the drums were too loud or the band was too loud. And if it was, she would just sing over the band, or sing around the band. She had that kind of power and presence.🙌🏻🙌🏻 . Whitney Houston had it all: Stage presence, vocal octave range ,insane phonetic power and control at mid to high chest vocalization, emotion-full diction and a physical beauty that was immensely complemented by her splendid resonance and timbre; all around she became what many people perceived as perfection. Sure, we had amazing singers at the time such as Mariah Carey but somehow all of these women, to a certain extent, lacked the emotion, the vehemence, and the powerful sheer that Whitney's voice was able to convey. Whitney Houston will be remembered as an anointed gift from nature to all humanity, one that we won't be able to experience anytime soon Whitney is a singer beyond compare. She is incomparable, her unique voice and style of singing is so far different from any other and the best VOICE of our time ...RIP #Queen 1963-2012 Whitney Houston
I'm scrolling through these comments and I have to say I am so glad that people knew how special this woman was. Whitney was not talented she was gifted. Vocal cords kissed by an angel or even god himself. Thank you everyone.
LEGEND! Like that little girl said in the "Make a Wish Video, when Whitney Houston sings, it makes me feel good. It is like fireworks go off inside of me.
Rehearsal? Please. Little to no effort. Her voice is so robotic. Perfect pitch, tone, clarity and just all around perfect. I like when she hit that mid-range of all at 2:42. That was nice. And of course she nails the big of all part like always. She stood tall, confident and dignified and tore it up like the boss she was/is. I wish I could sing like her.
I remember how deeply she was hurt that her own community rejected her for trying to sing white when all she did was sing like Whitney. No one ever sang like her, nor could they. RIP Beautiful Angel
Singing white?...the record company wanted her to have a more pop sound....she naturally sings with a gospel influence....she always sang her own way...
deALVIN DOPSON She sang her own way and was called a “sellout,” and “whitewashed.” Those comments were hurtful even though she presented a tough exterior. We are so fortunate to have lived in the era of Whitney Houston.
The greatest queen of all time.thank you nippy for sharing to us such a wonderfull voice of all time.also for all the songs that inspire us everytime wher'e in our down moments.your songs, your singing ability coming from the heart tells us to fight.you're an inspiration.GOD BLESS YOUR SOUL.rest in peace queen.
I feel 1987 to about 1994 was her ultimate vocal prime, would anyone else agree? I choose this range because by ‘87 she was fully accustomed to her success and fame, and was completely confident in herself / her abilities. By ‘94, her voice was definitely matured, maybe a little strained and raspy from use (and maybe lifestyle habits), but still beautifully flexible. I think it was unfortunately downhill from there. What does everyone else think?
95-99 was kinda a rollercoaster in terms of her ever changing vocal condition but overall she still had a considerable degree of excellence ... for me, if anything it was her tonal quality that went downhill through the years since 1998
Tonal wise I think 1987 to body guard era was out of this world. Her range was peak at about 85-91 . But her great improvisation skill was from about 87 to the end of her career . A vocal genius she was
Whitney is and was simply the BEST!!!!!!!! Vocally no one could touch her. She was one of the greatest voices of our time. God broke the mold after creating her. Everyday I still listen to a Whitney Houston song. I've been doing that for the past 10 years. There has not been a day that has passed, that I don't hear one of her song either in my car or on youtube. God bless you Whitney, we miss and love you. Rest in peace!!!!!!!!
You are spot on about others using Whitney. She was such a good soul..,,she was a vehicle for so many people and situations. Her family totally failed her but she still had to do the work and she just couldn't do it. She needed to 'go to the Rock' and pull herself out. She had a lot of distraction and pain in her life. That's part of what made her so amazing. She was an amazing person and performer - one of a kind - she is greatly missed and always will be.
I really believe that HER rehearsals were to make all around her do their parts to the highest level.....NOTHING LESS because HER rehearsals were just live performances
that is rehearsal? my goodness. i would hate...actually...LOVE...to have heard the real live performance. i bet she nailed it. she always did. and always sang live...no matter what. folks judge...but that lady sang and sang...flaws and all...for almost 3 decades. gone too soon. missed terribly. my love for great vocalists...was inspired by her. that is a greatest love of all. we will always love you whitney.
@JSP1839 I've heard some of Cissy's earlier recordings, and there are some qualities of her voice that are reminiscent of some of Whitney's registers. However, the family resemblance vocally is unmistakable when you listen to Thelma Houston's work. I'd be more inclined to believe that although Cissy's genes and influence are in Whitney, the in-bred talent came from the Houston side of the family.
Yes always live. That is even when her voice was going and gone she sang live. She could have faked it and lip-synched, especially towards the end. But she didnt. Always authentic. I never heard her sing halfway..she always gave her best. .
@GospelAccording2ME i'm not a big cissy fan but at least from the high (not classical) parts she sings you can tell she passed that on to her daughter...i agree, whit's gift is from god, there'll never be someone like this again...but even in one or two interview she talks about practice with her mom if she couldn't do what other singers did equally or better. no less halelujah!!
TROLL... her voice here was the quality of 1986. lISTEN TO THE HOLD ME WITH teddy PENDAGRASS on the same rehearsal. She sang it higher than the album version. since you always lie all over youtube, about Whitney and not singing her songs in the keys she recorded them! Go play at ARetha Videos!
Can someone please explain to me what they did at 5:30 - 5:33 (the note was maintained with the mic clearly not even close to her mouth) after she signalled something at 5:25
what happenned there is simple..normally in that plcae she holds a very long note when she goes find it innnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.. so in that space.. the music is kept on..but she was signaling to them not to exend the music because she was going to sing it like the album version without elongating the notes at the strength note and the innnnnnnnnnn note..So she makes the sign for tem to continue... When she pulls the mic ..the notes fades out bt her voice is actually quite powerful so you can still hear it. There is an obvious difference in sound though..
the reason they do rehearsals is for the instruments etc and how their voice fits the arrangement. You wouldn't want Whitney turn up to an event and dunno the arrangement and sounds like sh!t
The more I see of Whitney's rehearsals, the more stunning a performer she becomes to me (I didn't think that was possible since I think she is the greatest performer of our time). I know she started young with a great family pedigree, but she made her music happen on her own merit. She not only went in and rehearsed like a pro (and from a very early age) but brought the best she had in her each day (day in and day out) to her performances--rehearsal or live or in the studio. Unique and unequaled.
I cry every time I watch the video...so many negative stories about Whitney. She had the weight of the world on her shoulders and was surround by a lot of people treated her like a bank and family included. Rest in peace.
perth45 me too and I watch every single day and I can’t believe what a voice and how talented this woman was. I keep her close to my heart. I miss her so much like she’s a part of my family.
I've never heard her sing "all" @4:37 that way before she usually opens it out more... Love rehearsal mode, you get to hear different things!...Thank You mariahrocks0716 for uploading these gems!!
She sang it like that closed from 85 to 87.. 88.. She started opening it out more 88/89 onwards.. look for her performances from 85-88...she sang it like that ..even the grammy version or the mtv award versions from 87 and 86 respectively or the wembley 1988 version
A lot of times Whitney sings better in rehearsal's than during the actual event. She's usually more relaxed if you can believe it. That may be one reason or because she did hit that note during the first couple of era's more often like that live.
People may not know but this woman is a genius in directing a orchestra....she is the reason why the "When you believe" performance at the oscars was re composed to fit Whitney's and Mariah's voices. Mariah was having trouble with the more classical arrangement of the song so Whitney instructed the orchestra on the necessary chord changes and still outsung Mariah, I'm sure Whitney could have done the classical arrangement if she wanted to.
How imsecure...someone is mad that the 5 octave songbird is well. I love whitney but i hate her fans that are so insecure against mariah...they being mariahs name up just out of spite
NO MARIAH, NO CELINE, NO LADY GAGA ! WHITNEY WAS AND IS THE BEST FEMALE VOICE IN THE WORLD, THAT CLASS, THAT VOICE, THAT SOUL ! RIP WHITNEY,QUEEN OF THE MUSIC, OF ALL TIME !
