This was her final surrender to the pain she experienced in her life. A surrender to the spirit. To faith. Heaven got an angel back.

That's really strange to say. Whitney didn't know she would die young when recording this. You're retrospectively attaching meaning

Love this whole album but this is one of my favorites... I felt the same, that she was singing about herself. She owned those lyrics, just like the lyrics in the song Didn't Know My Own Strength. I feel that she and her daughter would still be here had she not gone on tour afterwards... I think it's a sad but very probable reality. After all she was doing good, she had gotten clean, life was settling down, she was returning to music again, she had joy in her life again. When I heard she would go on tour, it gave me chills, just really bad vibes. It didn't take long before the reports started to come in ("Houston we have a problem!") as her voice just couldn't take the strain of the touring, her voice was not fully back and she simply could not hit the incredible notes like before. She did her very best, she gave it her all. I myself saw that last tour here in Helsinki and I have never felt such love in an arena before, everyone just carried her through. Even if she could not hit all the high notes as perfectly, she still sang many singers under the table. But I could sense the anticipation, a certain nervousness for her, as people knew the note she was about to hit at the end of I'll Always Love You and we all knew she might not hit it - but we embraced her fully. I hope she felt the love that flowed to her, I'm sure she did if I could feel it in the room. I didn't mind that her voice had changed a bit even on the studio album, because I knew what she had gone through and even without all that voices change with age. But... I think the fact that she could not deliver like she used to may have broken her a bit, just seeing that the voice had a will of its own, one day here, the next day it might not be there. After all she was called The Voice. I just imagine how it would be to not be able to rely and trust your instrument anymore, and having to live with the stress of that every night on tour... I think it got to her in the end, the pressure of it all which is why I think that tour was a big miscalculation on her management's part... after the tour things just started to go downhill... and then, she was just gone... one night, just prior to having to perform at an event... the last song she sang on stage was Jesus Loves Me, she made an impromptu stage appearance... her voice was not there, but her heart was... so while I may be a bit gossipy... I am pretty sure she would be with us had she not toured and put so much pressure on herself so soon. But we all know how music industry has changed and there is a lot more pressure to tour these days. Prior to all the streaming services etc, one could sell lots of albums and touring was just extra if the album sold well... now touring is where the money comes from, streaming just isn't that profitable. I just wish wish wish she had kept on making albums, and not toured. But easier said from sidelines, and in hindsight... it's sad that she is no longer here but we will always have the gift of music that she gave us.

with this song Whitney said goodbye to us As I lay me down Heaven hear me now I'm lost without a cause After giving it my all Winter storms have come And darkened my sun After all that I've been through Who on earth can I turn to I look to you I look to you After all my strength is gone In you I can be strong I look to you I look to you Yeah And when melodies are gone In you I hear a song

Oh how sad this song leaves me. It truly DOES come across as her singing her life. I thought, "ok, she confronted, asked for her spiritual guidance and was gonna beat the troubles". Such a beautiful song but my goodness it just breaks my heart that it ended for her as it did. Heavy stuff.

Many on here have already explained this incredible song, so I won't add to it. I will just say that when I saw this couple years ago, I cried. I cried terribly when she died and I did a huge tribute of her videos on my FB page which at the time, was fan-based promo for Scorpions. which was sorta weird for the fans, but I was so compelled. Thank you for reminding me of this song, Psyche. She will always be the Queen to me.

I don’t care who has the higher notes better tone quality any technique you can think of when Whitney sung this song YOU FELT EVERY WORD!!! This song was not just as song it was her whole LIFE summed up in 4:00 minutes! No body can sing song like her because they haven’t experienced the pain the ridicule or scrutiny that she had. This a REMPTION song you have to go through something to sing this with heart. Imma stop here cuz I’ll cry I loved Whitney like my own family.

Hello James - thank you so much for your lovely heartfelt comment and I agree with you - when I heard it it just seems so deep, sincere in its lyrics and moving. I was heartbroken when she passed. I know the show goes on, but somehow the pre-Grammy's party going ahead, well to me, I still do not sit right with that - but that is just my opinion - especially as she lay in the same building the event was taking place in. Anyhow, just for info, I was frontrunner to play Whitney about 8 years ago for a UK/US collaboration programme but lost it at the last minutes because I was too small (as in height)! So I got to know a lot about her. Anyhow, have a wonderful Sunday, don't be sad anymore, but rejoice - play her music and smile - that is what she would have wanted. God bless you, and God bless your beautiful nation - America. Blessings - Psyche 🙋🏽‍♀️🌹✨

If it wasn't for Whitney's music (and my mother's love) when I was getting bullied and being told that no one would ever love me so I should just go ahead and kill myself, I did try to kill myself three times, thank God all were unsuccessful I lost my mother exactly 2 weeks before my 40th birthday on June 12th, 2011 and exactly 8 months later, I lost Whitney. I cried myself to sleep both times. She was my favorite singer and ironically, that was her last song to be on all the Billboard charts (peaking at #70 on the Hot 100 Chart in late 2009; Million Dollar Baby was the last song to chart, peaking at #100). First time I heard it, I said to all my family and friends, though she loved her daughter with all her heart, she was ready to go "home."
