Mariah's version is technically more complex and harder to sing than Whitney's version. Whitney is the classic version. Mariah's version is Mariah and only Mariah can deliver!

This is why Mariah or the others who covered this weren’t labeled as the standard. Certainly you and anyone else is more than entitled to your personal preference. However, there’s a reason why only Whitney’s delivery was turned into a nationwide hit single. She’s unmatched when it came to overall tone and vocal control

@@tanyagary8494 Whitney is one of the greatest vocalist in the world, I am a massive fan of her. However, she is no match to the vocal skills of Mariah. I don;t even like Mariah as a person as she is obnoxious and deluded. However, biases aside, there is no denying that Mariah is the greatest vocalist in the world. She can do so many things with her voice. Whatever Whitney can do, mariah can do as well and this is evident in mariah's first 2 albums. However, what Mariah can do, Whitney cannot follow. Mariah can alter the texture and timbre of her voice that's why she can sound different in almost every album. Mariah is also one of teh very few artist that has a perfect pitch and also has a rare gift of being polyphonic. Mariah can sing in any parts of her register, she can sing an entire song on the lower chest voice, she can sing an entire song belting, she can sing an entire sone in head voice, and she can sing an entire song in her whistle register. Mariah can cascade up and down her register in one breath and she can do it over and over with ease because of her unmatched agility and control. Mariah is actually more resonant than Whitney..all of that plus her unmatched musicianship makes her way ahead of Whitney. And let';s not forget - Whitney has a massive flaw as a vocalist - Whitney is unable to convey a range of emotions from Sadness to regress to pain, that whole spectrum of emotion. Just listen to her delivery of Where do broken hears go, or Didn;t we almost have it all, or even I will always love you...when you hear her sing those songs, it makes you jump for joy in jubilation because her the message of the song is lost/masked by the beauty of her voice. Sometimes, her delivery is not even connected to the emotions of the lyrics, those 3 songs i mentioned are classic examples. The only time Whitney showed vulnerability in her singing was during her last years when her voice is already gone....Again, I am a massive fan ever since Saving all my love was released to radio. Whitney has the most beautiful middle chest and upper chest voice. But let';s be real here, compared to Mariah, Whitney does not even comes close.

@@joshd8342Mariah was a great vocalist for sure but she didn‘t have Whitney‘s power and tone. That‘s why she didn‘t even try to sing the National Anthem the way Whitney did. The only Mariah Carey song I really like is „Visions of Love“ But her overload with whistle tones in Emotions - hell no.

Whitney was already a vocal pro before Mariah existed in the music industry. Whitney didn’t deem herself “ The Voice” her live performances will remind you in case you forgot. From the start of seeing Mariah’s live performances through over the years. Too many vocal inconsistencies then to top it off having to find out the ones she seems to have impressive vocal delivery in people are saying lipped then compilation video of her lipping. Whitney had everything to offer in live vocals we never had to wonder is it live, is she really singing. Mariah is no comparison to Whitney Houston on stage with a mic in any era. Why do you think she was pushed to sound like Whitney out of all those other singers who had been successful in their own rights? Her label wanted the best as they viewed Whitney. Take this Star Spangled debate up with the music industry Lol they’re the ones who felt Mariah’s among the rest didn’t cut it to be made into a hit single. As I said Whitney is just the best. By the way, if they had put a Mariah song in front of Whitney, dear she would’ve easily slayed any of them turning it into her spectacular own and would’ve done so without needing an unpredictable whistle to do it with

She did rehearse, Also she sang it live into a dead mic. This is standard NFL protocol in those days because the technology wouldn't allow for her to sound as amazing as she did. The audience would have been picked up in the mic she had. When she did sing it live, you can see how the audience almost drowns her out at the end. Her live performance is identical to this. Absolutely beautiful!!! 💯
