Did you know that Whittier’s Founders Day celebration dates back to the late 1800s? Learn the history of this event and check out how it’s being celebrated today.
Trying out a new format for this piece, so any constructive criticism is appreciated!
Thank you to Ryan Banfield, Mike Garabedian, Nicholas Edmeier, Del Mar, and Bob Ruiz for the interviews.
Thank you to the Whittier Public Library for permission to use the historical photographs.
And special thanks to Joel Lopez who filmed and edited this video.

Thank you! Wanted to try the format out, it was challenging, but fun. It was a great event, I know next year's is going to be bigger and better.

Huh. I mean I am from VERY NEAR there and I don't recall any such. Of course we rarely drove to uptown. Attended a church their for a few months, but that was about it. Nice greenery is all I can recall. Mostly didn't go north of Whittwood and The Quad malls off Whittier Blvd.

It definitely went through phases where it was celebrated in big ways, like with a parade, and more subdued celebrations. The current way seems to be what they’re adopting moving forward. Have already heard about a few local businesses that will be popping up at this year’s celebration.
