As we learned from my video on the history or Randy’s Donuts and the Big Do-Nut Drive-In, there are still 5 locations of the Big Do-Nut chain that are still standing and we’re going to visit all of them and grab some coffee, donuts, and a little bit of history.

It's always nice to watch one of your videos and to see you in action. Honestly, I haven't had a do-nut in decades but I might consider having one at a Big Do-Nut drive-in location. Keep up the good work, Javier!

Thank you!!! I also learned about the different kids of donuts making the video! I came to realize that I much prefer raised to the cake donuts.

What up Foo!! Nothing like a good donut and some coffee. I live in Bellflower and I go to that location sometimes. Too bad I didn't see you when I pass by there, I would have liked to meet you. Keep up the great content.

Great video. The "since 52" puzzles me as well. Photos of the grand opening show the dates as July 10th and 11th. Every grand opening has been held on Friday/Saturdays. If you look at a calendar for 1952, the 10th and 11th of July don't fall on those days. I have Gardena opening on 8/19-20/55, Compton on 7/29-30/56. I haven't been able to find a date for Bellflower.

Yeah, that's what struck me as well the dates just don't match up for 1952. You've also introduced another puzzle to the mix. I found a newspaper article that announces the grand opening of the Gardena location as being on 06/25-26 1954, very strange. You did solve the issue I had with the Compton one; I had read an article about the Grand Opening of the Culver City location that mentioned it was "one of five" locations, which made me think the Compton one might've opened around the same time, but based on your date, it was probably in the planning/construction phase. The only thing I could find for the Bellflower location is the year of the building being built as 1959, but couldn't find anything to cross-reference and confirm the opening date.

@@californiography Made a mistake on Compton. July 29-30 happened in 55, not 56. I based my Gardena date on a news photo of a grand opening, the sign reads Aug 19-20, which happened in 55. I think I'm getting a headache!

There's a big donut shop in Costa Mesa on Harbor Boulevard. It hasn't been there long but there's a gigantic donut on the building. What happened also with that big donut shop in Long Beach at 7th and Bellflower? A co-worker of mine owned the house right next door to it.

The donut shop in Costa Mesa seems to be a new Randy’s Donuts. The donut shop that was on 7th and Bellflower used to be an Angel Food Donuts shop, but now it’s a Dunkin Donuts-they did keep the big donut from the sign though .

@@californiography I'm going to have to manage to swing by both of those places. I'm not big into donuts, but I can always find something I like in a donut shop. Might look up my old co-worker also....

Dope! Were all of the 🍩 consistent in size? I’ve never any of these locations. On a side note, doesn’t someone who is starting a business especially brick and motor have to pull permits and documentation with the city? I thought that’s how one verifies established date? I enjoy your videos man keep up the great work foo!
@californiography
@californiography 5 месяцев назад
Thanks man!! They're pretty consistent in size, they're about 32 feet in diameter, with the exception of the Bellflower one which is about 23 feet in diameter. And yes, you're right about pulling the permits for the dates. I did find dates for the Bellflower and Compton locations, but I couldn't cross reference them with newspaper articles to confirm the opening date.

@@stevecarrillo hahaha, thought you were talking about the donuts on the buildings 😂 yeah, they were all pretty consistent sizes, I think the ones at Dale’s Donuts might’ve been the biggest of them all, but not by too much
