That map was never going to be Japan’s empire for long, regardless of the A-bomb - all they had was a conquering army, they had no infrastructure to defend the territories they took.
Japans military was also pretty far behind when it came to tanks and is something people forget completely. People will gleefully joke about Shermans on the western front in Europe but fall mysteriously silent when you bring up any other front the Sherman was on.
For anyone who doesn't know - Janissaries were Christian slaves of the Ottoman Empire, and they were trained in elite gunpowderdry (new word). They faught for the Ottomans, and were the main part of their army. BOOM APWH COMES IN HANDY FOR ONCE BABY
5:01 Those numbers are actually very much believable given the fact that Bouddica's ''army'' was really just a bunch of naked peasants. It was more a mob than an army and we've seen what Riot Polices can do to mobs even when ridiculously outnumbered. Now give the Riot police gladius instead of nightstick and yeah...
I've heard about the Wismar incident. Canadian Paratroopers were sent via truck to haul arse to Wismar, the agreed-to limit of Russian occupation, to get there before the Russians. They were to slow the roll of the Russians to prevent them from rolling into Denmark. German soldiers tried to surrender to the Canadian Paras but were told to keep walking and surrender to someone else as they didn't have time. The Canadian Paras got to Wismar in time for a quick dip in the Baltic Sea before taking up the defense of the city. The Russians arrived and said "That's our city". Canadian Paras said, we have orders to defend this city. The delay in getting Monty to override the orders caused the Russian momentum to halt and saved Denmark from Soviet occupation. Y'know, as if the Russians would pull out of Denmark voluntarily.
There have been those that argue that WWI and WWII is really a modern Thirty Years War with smaller wars happening between the two bookend wars. And really, the two Balkan Wars preceding WWI could also be added to the 20th Century Thirty Years War list.
Yeah I'm British and we went from Kings and Queens all the way up to the civil war and then suddenly it's world war 1 and we've got a massive empire and we've got people fighting for us from all around the globe.
3:30 Actually the British wanted to support the CSA, just not get directly involved. The British gave the CSA the Alabama and it was one of the CSAs most successful ships.
Britain and France had ships off the US coast during the Civil War, until they saw a Russian ship and turned away. It's not certain whether or not anything was going to happen, but.. The US and Russia, while maybe not allies, but definitely friendly, are natural allies and didn't have conflict until communism.
1:38 THANK YOU for mentioning India! By God it seems everything we did is never mentioned, like come on man, we gave so much money and manpower during both world wars. And we have so much interesting history, even in WW2, like Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, then Indian Wermacht troops including some dripped out Sikh Wehrmacht soldiers plus so much more
2:16 soviets have mechanical kids toys at home. Конструктор it was called, though now it is a generic name so you most likely will find a lot of different types that are different from the one I'm talking about. It was an aluminum sheet kit with removable kits, angled connectors, wheels and all that stuff. Pretty cool stuff, even though not as flexible as lego... at least lego in the early 2000s.
2:00 thats a truth with modifications... MOST of Denmark was liberated on May 5th... the German commander of the island of Bornholm didn't surrender to the allies until May 9th because the terms was that all Germans in Denmark had surrendered to Montgomery and the island of Bornholm was on the Soviet side of the divide. Also the island was defacto occupied by the Soviet army for a long time (almost a full year) before it was released to the Danes.
Petition for a Prussia and Venice countryball plush day 15. Side note, does anyone know how long it takes for Makeship customer support to reply because its been more than a week now.
We talked about Teddy Rosevelt’s imperialism, The CIA in Guatemala, the deal with Ho Chi Minh and Diem. We watched a documentary on the WWII firebombings. We just went in depth on the Vietnam War and how we were wrong. We talked about Napalm, Agent Orange, Firebombs, White Phosphorus. What more do you want?
On the Stalin thing, according to the race theory Aryans are descendants from Indo-Europeans and closely related to people from the Caucasus, so yes Georgians would be considered as having the same ancestor as Aryans, the same is true for Northern India and modern day Pakistan, they were all considered related to Aryans based on their common Indo-European ancestry. So in their Eyes Stalin wasn't Slavic
In my opinion it was Austrias fault They started the war too late and it was already after the support from the assassination had all ready fizzled out
6 or 8 french soldiers hold by themselves 2000 italian soldiers in the alps for days or weeks while the country was being reckt by germany in the north, so yea ... italian "army"
