Lyrics:
Title: "Think About His Love"
Album: God For Us
Artist: Don Moen
Think about His love
Think about His goodness
Think about His grace
That's brought us through
For as high as the heavens above
So great is the measure
Of our Father's love

Very sensible, realistic and direct to the point. You really have to be wise and indeed know who and what kind of audience do you have. Thank you Don for the lesson. Praise God.

I totally agree with you. Our church is really tiny now. The pandemic basically almost ruined our church. Also: our pastor decided to leave and then more people left. So; now all we have are older adults and elderly going to our church. We have a new pastor. He's been there for a little over a year now. As of yesterday, I am now the new worship leader. I already know that the audience likes the older hymns and music. They like southern gospel style. The last leader tried to introduce contemporary and that did not go over well . He usually was just about the only one singing. No one knew the songs. He left our church. I hate that cause he's a good man. Please understand before anyone bashes me. I am not putting down contemporary gospel. It's just that our church with the age group we have, contemporary doesn't work. Hopefully; our church will one day have younger people attending and then all styles of gospel music can be introduced to the audience. I love God and I love music.

Thoughts from an old pastor- Unless the Worship Team are prayer warriors, meaning visualizing the audience before performance, singing to them days, hours, before you go on stage, then hang it up-pure entertainment. Yet if you go bathed, saturated in prayer, you not only will make disciples, but have followers that are thirsty and hungry for God's Word and His abiding presence daily. Warning to those wishing for shortcut to the presence of God. Only obedience is the road to success, no shortcuts. One has counted 680 orders to follow in the Bible. Many have written about the fifty plus orders to obey from Jesus our King. Make Him King today...study HIS orders from our commander in Chief. We are at war.

What do you suggest the approach should be when the audience/congregation is very mixed (culturally and by age)? Thanks!
@DonMoenTV
@DonMoenTV 8 лет назад
+rjmari Thanks for your question, rjmari. You need to be able to find common ground for your diverse congregation. A hymn always works if you put it in the right key and make it accessible to your audience. Also, there are many great worship songs that can serve this purpose if they are placed in the right key and accessible to your congregation. For instance, I sing How Great Is Our God in the key of G. Tomlin sings it in the key of C, which is too high for most congregations. You may have to spend more time planning your worship services in order to draw all people in, but it is well worth it! I hope this helps. God bless
