it's deadass weird thinking about how R2 is the only character to see the main storyline for like 40+ years (maybe longer i forgot how long he lives in the EU)
R2d2's story is actually quite sad, he did not in fact know farther valer was anakin, and also, the last time r2 obeyed orders to stay on a ship was on mustafar, after that, when luke tells him to stay on a ship he doesn't because he associates it with losing a friend.

so many factors, being born into slavery, his mother dying, being tricked by palps, and the jedi not listening to him and being really stupid. it’s like the jedi and sith were both tryna make him bad
Mostly the Jedis fault. There are so many film essays breaking down how overbearing and counterproductive the Jedi Order was. Not to mention the hypocrisy shown my some Jedi Masters

Tarkin knew but was smart enough to keep it to himself. Why? Because he saw what happened to those in the Empire who tried using that information to blackmail Vader Spolier alert: It didn't end well for them
Luke and Leia didn't know for a while, and Leia only learned for real a few years after the Battle of Endor. Also though Vader and Anakin aren't the same person, they are 2 separate personalities in the same body, kinda like Moon Knight is with his multiple personalities. Vader probably came about through the traumatic event of Anakin's mom's death, and he finally took control for real in Revenge of the Sith, and Anakin was pushed so far down and basically killed that it took Luke and Leia to bring him back out and give him the strength to overpower and destroy Vader, and then kill Palpatine, thereby fulfilling the prophecy of The Chosen One
Forgot the imperial officer from the Vader comics that was investigating the heist. He pieces together that Vader was Anakin and was killed by Vader for it.
Man I wish they would have just did a whole series on Baylan Skoll instead of the Acolyte. Sadly, the actor that played him is dead now. Such a shame. What a compelling character he was. Way better than most of what Disney’s dreamt up the past decade or so
R2 knew before practically everyone else, except for Palpatine and Vader himself. He was Darth Vader before the attack on the Jedi temple. It wasn't the suit that made him Vader.

R2 recorded Obi-Wan and Anakin’s argument on the landing platform. He knew Anakin turned to the dark side, I don’t know if he was aware later on that Vader was his former friend though.
i think R2 definitely knows bc it seems Star Wars for the most part is told by him and his point of view like i can’t think of many episodes of even the Clone Wars where he isn’t there not to mention he also had a great bond with Luke
I think there was also a nurse from the dark visions comics that was obsessed with vader and figured it out, she did not live long after! Also, I think Padme's Handmaidens had probably figured it out in the current Darth Vader comics series, though, it's been a while since I read them and am a bit behind.

What do you mean 'somehow'. She was there at the Temple watching Anakin carry out the carnage as Darth Vader, it was pretty obvious who he was seeing as Palpatine had no other black clad Sith enforcer. She is alive because Vader purposefully struck her in a non-essential area to prolong her suffering. The Grand Inquisitor even gives it away by saying revenge can be a potent motivator for the will to live. Which she then went looking for before reconciling with Obi-Wan.
R2 is definitely aware of what happened to Anakin. That's why he refuses to stay behind anytime he's asked after Episode III, because the last time he did that, his master never came back.
I mean anakin was literally called the chosen one in the order then vanished so I’d say most people could put two and two together when Vader popped up and anakin was gone lol
in legends r2 was recording all mustafar fight, and when luke discovered that vader was his father, he asked r2 why did he never told him the truth, that's when our droid showed the recording while breaking his droid's metal heart remembering all those good times with anakin, obi wan, padme and ahsoka
R2 knows in the new Hope when Obi-Wan is lecturing Luke. And think about it he’s a joy that’s been around for a long time. He can scan things he’s even defeated helped on numerous missions.
R2 later found out himself probably because he watched it all happen while hiding probably because he was scared. He refused to talk about it to anyone
I also must point out that I think (correct em if im wrong) but in the kenobi series the third sister inquisitor actully was a jedi but played dead when anikin killed the younglings so she would of possibly known
3PO was wiped but Rtoo never had 1 memory wipe ever which f*cks a Droid That's why he was always forgetting sh*t and messing stuff up connecting to power sockets etc
You also forgot the stormtrooper who Vader teaches how to use a lightsaber and becomes vaders apprentice but then ends up getting killed by Vader later when the stormtrooper learns that he is really Anakin Skywalker and tries to kill Vader.
Didn’t Madame Jocasta reveal Vader’s Identity on the Ship when captured and all the Clone’s on ship heard which one was Fox which Vader instantly Killed them all.
