Are ENFP's manipulative? They certainly have the means to be, but I don't think the vast majority act on it. The central tool that an ENFP can use to become a skillful manipulator is, ironically, their well-honed empathy. They can immediately see the deepest, most personal desires of others and step into the skin of another person almost effortlessly. If an ENFP remains healthy, they will stay in a field of work that inspires them to be soulful, compassionate, and creative in a way that utilizes their overflowing empathy positively. But if an ENFP directs that empathy to tap into the materialistic, superficial wants of modern society (as I feel someone like Tai Lopez and other super gurus do), they can read the cravings of the masses in a way no other type can, and will reap a very lucrative but ultimately dark harvest. I think a much more positive, everyday example of an ENFP would be your stereotypical English teacher who is creative and quirky, helped you discover your favorite author and the joy of reading, and inspired you to reach your potential in life.

Enfp here. Thank you for bringing this my attention. I 100% agree it’s this strong empathy we have that can make us manipulative. I think it’s prob stated better that we are EXTREMELY INTUITIVE and because Of that power we then can manipulate situations. So, it’s not that we’re manipulative it’s just that we’re able to manipulate situations, Im not sure if that makes sense but that’s what’s connecting with me. The word “Manipulative” has such a bad connotation. i am insanely good at picking up what another person needs/wants because I’m so hypersensitive to another’s energy, verbal & non verbal cues. And i can sense what they need or are wanting. this has made me HIGHLY successful. & being able to read & absorb so much has expanded my skill set &knowledge. I think Tai Lopez really is inspiring others to achieve, his tactic prob is manipulative, however, I think he is doing more good than harm. Same with Tony Robbins and other gurus.

I feel like I’m being called out. But I can’t deny it. At my worst I can be manipulative and very cruel with my words. Like how he said ENFPs can sell you anything for being persuasive. ENFPs can also chew you up and spit you out with their words. If you hurt them enough and they feel it’s justified they can really cause some damage and point out every insecurity in another individual. It’s rare but when it happens we don’t hold back.

Enfp here. First time I heard this I hated it. I think it’s because I felt I was being criticized & it is very hard for me to take criticism...unless it’s delivered appropriately and it’s constructive criticism lol. Second time I watched it..i do understand what he’s saying. He’s just a tad more blunt than I would’ve liked to hear it. I do think he has had a bad run in w/enfps HOWEVER he makes some very solid points. I think it comes down to our FEELINGS. Our feelings can be so tied to a belief it’s unreal. Example, most of us probably believe we are good people so this video saying we’re manipulative goes against that belief so initially it’s off putting. I look back at when I was in my early 20s & it’s like i had blinders to how I was acting/responding when people would hurt my feelings. I felt so sure of my actions at the time because I was strongly driven by my emotions. NOW that I’m older, my life is so different. I got HUGE into meditation, mindfulness & studying the law of attraction. All of this taught me how to CONTROL & MANAGE my thoughts. Thoughts used to effect my emotions. When we learn to control our THOUGHTS it will control our FEELINGS which will control our ego self. Then we start living from the heart and become our best selves. I agree that I love reading. If you’re a true Enfp & don’t read you’re doing yourself a disservice. Read, read, read (try audiobooks) & take some meditation classes :) it’ll change your life! Tony Robbins is also an enfp. #enfplove

I agree that we all have room to grow and can see that by observing our own progression from past experiences. I agree with many points and appreciate the effort put into making this video, but I also agree that it is far too blunt and negative. I feel that the selfish/unhealthy ENFPs like Tai Lopez who are addicted to success and are willing to exploit others financially through pyramid schemes are not a fair representative of the majority. ENFPs do naturally develop a identity/brand by connecting research(Ne) to their beliefs(Fi), however myself and most ENFPs find those that exploit this tool to be repulsive. In the same way, while all INFJs are constant empathizers, some are very selective about in who is deserving of this empathy, while others disagree with this behavior and are more charitable with it. From my experience, the sleazy salesperson behavior is also very common in ESTPs. They can lead with selfish convenient/financial reasons(Ti) and use their understanding of others’ situations(Fe) as a manipulation tool to get what they want. In sales, they tend to use facts to convince the other person it is a good purchase, as opposed to soliciting theoretical advise like Tai Lopez. I find it interesting you notice that certain qualities of these two personalities can balance each other out. All of this said, I also understand the approach of this video is meant to be more critical to combat the other fluffy videos out there. In the end, I’m just another typical helpless emotionally reactive ENFP that was too selfish to realize that this video isn’t just for me, but for others learning to better handle my erratic behaviors... Cheers!

Google User Your point is exactly how I perceived this info about the ENFP’s. However I always felt misunderstood by most people who thought they knew me. I seldom felt understood by other people. The arrogance I had to put up with was shocking me. When I was in my 20’s I didn’t exactly know myself that well, but my high standarts and morals did not Change over time and I have always been honest and true about them. The only thing that was difficult for me was that I stood on my own with them and that made me difficult to be around with I guess, because no one shared my values back then. I on the other hand, felt guilt tripped by others who were offened by them in some way. Over time I grew out of my naivity and became to know myself even beter which Is why I have better boundaries and can built better foundations that are more healthy. That’s the core here for the ENFP’s I believe.. The problem for ENFP’s is, people that take advantage of the lighthearted or naive nature of ENFP’s. In my 20’s, some people sure were offended when I became aware of myself more and more...and so...what other things I found important than only THEIR lives. They blamed me for persuing self awareness and other people than them. I have done things for these people out of complete submission to them (forgetting myself or out of contact with myself)....and many so called friends tried to buy my goodwill or my presence with them, back when I started being my own person more and more. I did not force them to do give me anything else than friendship and love, but they were making me feel guilty for them giving money and stuff I didn’t ask for, and blaming me for having my own thoughts and feelings. ......They did this, I guess because they needed my approval for something or they wanted to OWN me. Maybe I have been somewhat naive with these types, or maybe I have never been understood. The people that do understand me however, have also stood beside me all the while, but Hey, So did I stand next to them all the while, as well. And these contacts have only become stronger and more beautiful with time. The connections grew in freedom. Which I love so much. These people DO really know me and my quirky weird ways. More so, they love that about me....and can make me laugh about myself with them. Most so called past friends seemed to have had an incredible blind spot in the way I have been myself, and the way I have been there for them. They did not see it. See what I did for them. That is scarry you know? This made me ask for confesions about how I have been perceived by others for a long time. Now I know I AM a good person....as I was then. I have had many parasites in my life in the past who have made me feel unworthy and bad about my ways of personal living, who could only point out what I lacked and or wasn’t giving to them. So that is what I read between the lines about ENFP’s also. I think that most people don’t understand the ENFP (just like they don’t understand the INFJ). I have very good connections with the ISTJ and ESFJ’s (they teach me A LOT and balance me our in such a good way...they are so different from me and just because of that, very good for me). The ENFJ, very good friends, they SEE me and understand my ways. The INFJ in my life is my souls mirror, could not wish for a better partner than him. Every type has its beauty, but I realize that because of what I metioned, I’m more apt to people who feel familiar or safe to me.... *Edited in later: There are bad people in every type. I myself just can not relate to the manipulation part the way he explained it in this video. I have used white lies when I was younger. But only to make things more beautiful, to get myself out of difficult situations and to fulfill my imagination (I did this for my own survival as a child). Not by all means to do harm, or play nasty tricks on people. I have been played like that myself by others, like I said before (maybe by some other ENFP’s who knows). But, Manipulation is inbreaded in us all, you know? Namely to survive and get what we want in life. It begins with being a baby. They manipulate to survive, to get love from the parent. But about the ENFP. The questions are though, do you play people for a fool and harm them in any way by it? or do you want to make peoples worlds better by sharing something magical that they can use for their own lives? I’m disgusted by cruelty, gossip and hard lies, or the use of manipulation to do harm and it has always been that way. But I love magic (spirituality) and the imagination. These are totally different things. But I get the idea that they might be confused often for manipulation. If people (not only ENFP’s) see the value in the beauty of imagination and if they want to know the levels in there, it is up to them to connect with such levels.

Also an INTP and my ex girlfriend is an ENTP. I really enjoyed being with her at the time, but she realized we were not a good fit. I think that I made her feel stupid when we would debate because her arguments would consist of appeals to authority and I wasnt convinced unless she could cite hard data. Or if I questioned the methodology or credibility of her sources, she would run out of steam. My only experience with this type is that they want to convince you that their way is the right way, but they use emotional arguments or guilt or shame tactics. It did seem like reputation was really important to her as well. She put a lot of pressure on me to "perform" in front of her family and openly told me several times that she was worried her family wouldn't like me.

ENFP here. I agree with a lot of the video. And can see the reasoning on why he feels so strongly towards enfp types. Learning from my interactions with other enfp’s we can actually be very different. So though I think he was spot on describing how we use our cognitive functions I don’t think it describes every Enfp. I have seen completely selfish enfps and selfless ones. And also how some of our actions can be deemed selfish. One thing I feel like only other enfps I’ve talked with can understand is in conversations I would always talk about how I feel about things. And it’s not to talk about myself it’s to show the other person how we relate and connect. And that’s why I love talking with other enfps. I JUST WANNA KNOW HOW YOU FEEL AND HOW IT ALL CONNECTS hahaha. In conclusion I think enfp is being really misunderstood in this video. Hmmm... ENFP here... So, I'm well aware that ENFP has strong ability to influence others. I agree with many points of this analysis, but the general characterization of ENFP as an overall dark personality type that needs to be constantly reminded and prodded to lean away from the dark side is neither accurate nor fair. This appears to be more of a perception of the presenter based on what he has admitted himself to be some of his personal encounters with certain individuals. Unhealthy people - Liars, cheaters, bullies, narcissists, etc... come in all personality types. Now if the presenter claimed that it can be particularly dangerous when an ENFP is determined to deceive/cheat because of our ability to sway the perception and therefore the actions of large numbers of people - that I whole heatedly agree with! But, to paint a picture that this is ENFP's natural tendency unless steared in a positive direction is completely misleading. What I did appreciate: The discussion of the psychology behind ENFP insecurities and people pleasing tendencies is good and (from my perspective) accurate. Also, the fact that ENFP's can and do practically inhale knowledge and information is accurate. As an ENFP in technology, I had to learn early to embrace my "Si" in order to thrive in my career. I also understand what the presenter means by ENFP's being afraid to do new things. It just was not stated clearly. It's not actually that we are afraid of doing new things, it's that we're hesitant about acting on new potentially life altering paradigms for which we have no personal precedent of successes. ENFP Fi parent has to figure out and put safety nets in place before we venture forth so we can make sure that we'll be able to retreat/return to safety if the new world is not as we thought. Finally, I'm definitely a live and let live person - totally none violent. I have not been in a single fight in my life, not even as a child (I'm an adult over 40 right now). However, I have had some experiences where I've been deeply wronged as an adult, and I won't lie - the thoughts of what I would have liked to do for revenge were pretty severe - it takes an awful, awful lot to make an ENFP truly enraged - this is a seriously last, last, last resort for an ENFP because we ourselves know more than anyone how truly dangerous we can be. I think it's way less likely to be a physical altercation, and much more likely that we will destroy you (your business, job, social standing). We will also be careful that we are able to live well after the dust settles, hence our preference for handling things legally (presenter also got that part right).

C.S. Joseph, I recently discovered your videos, and I must say I'm impressed. Typically, I don't think anyone does a great job at representing the strengths and weaknesses of each type, or how these would relate to the given function stack. You do a great job, and with an impressive level of accuracy. I especially appreciate how you've made these videos, that you're honest, and that you don't shy away from sharing both the potential good, and the potential bad. People need to hear both, and the fact that everyone takes it personally instead of a learning opportunity is a bit embarrassing. As an INFJ, I appreciated the weaknesses that you shared, including the negative *personal experiences that you have had with INFJs. I think it's beneficial for people to hear the examples of what their weaknesses look like in a circumstance.

I feel like his information and the way he communicates is more realistic and true. He might not be saying what people want to hear but what they need to hear. And I think that is why I appreciate his videos so much because I can honor that he is willing to share all angles and not just the ones people want to receive. The first time I watched this Im quite defensive but as I watch this again it's so accurate. I'm an ENFP and I can be very selfish when I feel others don't care about me as much as I care about them. I always expect the same kindness that I offer, when I didn't get that I will stop caring. Usually people will be so clueless about it because they thought we are genuinely care for them, its true that we care for them but maybe deep down we did that to make us feel like a good person (some kind of self validation I guess). Thus when anyone violate us, or when we feel like we are not being appreciated, we will leave and we can appear to be really selfish but the truth is we are just protecting ourself from potential harm. So please don't depraved us. Thank you for this video, its a new perspective of ENFP that many didn't notice. I'm an ENFP, and I think I don't really care about "popularity", but I do care about what the people I care about think of me to the point that if I feel like I've said ANYTHING wrong I start to overthink and I have a tendency to believe people hate me/ think I'm stupid. I also tend to try and be lowkey about service (which i love to do) because I don't want people to think I'm only doing it to gain favor in the eyes of others. I do agree with the fact that ENFPs twist the truth. I tend to do that to keep people happy (making and keeping people happy is probably one of my main focuses..?) I also agree with the fear of trying new things, unlike some people in this comment section. I LOVE learning and learning about new things and experiencing new things, but there have been PLENTY of times where new things have been kind of terrifying and the idea of doing them makes me uncomfortable. Sometimes I just want to stay in my own little comfort zone. the contracts thing is ABSOLUTELY true. I tend to be VERY afraid someone will "screw me over" if I don't pay attention to what they're REALLY saying. I also have a tendency to talk about myself and I HATE it, because I feel like I should be listening to other people and not taking up all the time making everything about me. A very insightful video and while I don't agree with absolutely EVERYTHING, you make very good points and you present a lot of quality information. Got to say.... Your awesome! I really appreciate your honesty. I am an enfp and I seriously loved your perspective of how I think. Alot of our mistrust and inability at times to be 100 percent trusting... Has alot to do with deeply engraved betrayal by the education system at a very vulnerable time in our upbringing. The way we learn doesn't translate well in grade school. A resentment for authority and a mistrust for anyone trying to help us gets created. I personally had great family support. But we get so many labels, inattentive, lazy, said to have a learning disability. I honestly was intune with people around me so I never felt inferior and there were penalties for not learning like the rest. So when we get older and our knowledge pool never quits growing. We are extremely generous but also carry a chip on our shoulder. You never have to tell an enfp how to learn, or to seek knowledge. It's a very natural and unconscious commitment that we do it. We also have to do it on our terms. Perspective, knowledge, refinement of our own logical systems and the ability to correlate. Give us a view of the world and an Intuition unlike any other. It was a very respectful and effective approach of keeping conscious of the potentially manipulative side I've my personality that rarely comes to the surface. But I know it's TRUE and definitely exists. I'll be saving this video to keep myself in check. Well done. Best enfp video I've seen by far. Thank you

I think the manipulation part is very true for us. It doesn’t have to mean we’re manipulating you to do things, it could be even in just seeing us in a certain way. In all honesty, I don't find this description to be all that far off. I believe this is my mothers personality type. My mother is most definitely a selfish woman but, also very surprisingly giving and she expresses her charity side gloriously. Which I quite admire. She's indeed manipulative at times and indeed was abusive towards her children. It's important to remember that even though our personality types can sound awful and horrid, that doesn't mean this is set in stone. For simplicity sake, I guess you could look at it as a personality who is more PRONE to this behavior and thought pattern IF they don't reach within and tap/use other available cognitive functions. If WE as a people don't watch ourselves and don't put forth efforts to be the best we can be, we are ALL prone to our NATURAL negative personality patterns. So, no need to feel "attacked" or "offended" by this. I didn't like my own "weaknesses" but, this is something we must face if we want to be our best. -INFJ

ENFP's afraid to do new things??? Did you forget that we're Ne dom? We LOVE new experiences and hate seeing people resist them. We spend tons of energy trying to get others to try our latest discovery. We are the explorers! And I never buy books and absolutely don't read fast... but that could just be me... I read online all the time but I want the exact info I'm looking for... commiting to a whole book is way out there for me. I've never felt not smart. It feels like you have a lot of things confused between us and ESFP's and you're bias in their favor. The majority is accurate but there are a few things that just seem super left field. We're the most manipulative? Pretty sure you're thinking of ENFJ. We're liars? I think ESFP owns that title don't they? I've never heard anyone attibute all these nasty attributes to us that you do. Maybe you just know a lot of low class ENFP's? Thanks for the rest. Cheers!

Jeremy Christmas I respectfully disagree. Perhaps you have Se mixed up with Ne? Ne is not about giving other people new experiences, that is Se. However, after having an experience or taste of something for oneself, an Ne user would share it with others be cultivating their desires to do it. It’s all about what do you want? Vs. the Se approach: “Hey you should do this.” I recommend looking at my ENFJ vid, for comparison purposes.
@creativej
@creativej 6 лет назад
C.S. Joseph No confusion. Perhaps a better way to put it is we try to enlighten people. No, we don't try to control people because we want them to do want we want like the ESFP does... we try to encourage and wake them up to the possibilities they're not seeing because we hate to see them in a rut or blind to what we were once blind to. I have an INTP son and as you accurately describe, he'll aviod unknown territory because it's safe. I did some of that early on due to not trusting the adults around me... but once I got out on my own and tried some stuff I found that I'd been missing out and have therefore embraced new experiences and wanted to help bring others out of their shell too. I've read this is common for us so I don't see what you mean that we're afraid of new experiences. Finding new ways to do things is what we're all about.
@CSJoseph
@CSJoseph 6 лет назад
Jeremy Christmas Typically ENFPs can be agents of change for others not so much for themselves. Their insecurity in doing new things comes from their need to be comfortable. If doing something they haven’t done before causes them to be uncomfortable, then they become insecure. I recommend you watch the ENFJ vid for a nice comparison because they are closer to what you are describing.
@creativej
@creativej 6 лет назад
C.S. Joseph I will but my mom is an ENFJ so I am familiar. They probably don't quite know who they are because they're so in tune with YOU and their Ni can see your future so clearly that they know just what you need to do at all times... and they'll manipulate or sabotage you (whatever it takes) to see to it that you follow that path for your own good. They mean well, but it's control and that's different from we ENFP's. We don't think we know the "right way" or if there even is truly such a thing... we hope not... and we don't like to control or be controlled. ENFJ's sort of seem to want to protect people... but we want to free them. We love exploring all options and are very open to different ways of doing things... they are not. I find ENFJ's funny and we can usually laugh together but they will sometimes just up and get offended by something I say that isn't meant to be offensive and isn't taken to be by other types. It always comes as a surprise to me and they usually seem to feel that I'm calling them stupid when I'm pointing out something that's interesting or funny like I've been doing our whole visit. Yes, it's usually something about them... but 85% of the time it's okay to laugh at them and be light hearted... but all of sudden they'll just get insecure (inferior Ti) and I'll have to smooth their feathers for them. We ENFP's do like to be comfortable, I'll give you that... but I would suggest that Ne dominant eventually demands change over comfort as stagnation is more uncomfortable than anything else. This is why we are great entrepreneurs and terrible employees... we have to have change and we have to innovate.
@CSJoseph

Jeremy Christmas your description of ENFJs sounds more ISFJs. Also, Ni cannot see into others futures, just their own. Ne is what is used to see into others futures. I recommend you review the INFJs type video as well. Thanks.

Thank you for telling people the emotionally detached truth. • • The beauty of this guys content (primarily this video) is that there’s no pandering. To just say the same a generic description: Energetic, Warm, quick thinking; surface level functions, actually devalue the Enfp type into a mold that makes them LESS unique & sophisticated. To show the full cognitive spectrum: standard stack 1-4, shadow functions, (infj) reverse functions (istj) & *Super* *iD* (Estp) gives us a better understanding, and appreciation of what happens to this type under pressure. If the ENTJ/ESTJ type can be criticized for crass mannerisms, (lack of emotional consideration) then EVERY type should be afforded the same level of scrutiny. Last point (as though this wasn’t long already 😏) notice how no RU-vidr presents a critique of this personality type. I always say, if someone is telling you what your doing wrong, that means everyone else is seeing it, but not telling you. I definitely relate to some things mentioned, while some of the examples are roughly opposite to my experience. Some of the people and characteristics closely describe the only kinds of people I have real difficulty being around, find toxic, and can't relate to-"salesy"/"businessy" people that never stop trying to convince you that their mission is better than whatever you want, manipulating you into submission as their grateful student. You can never relax and enjoy their company, as they're constantly trying to get you to affirm to yourself that you agree with them, and you always have to be on your guard, trying to read them so as to avoid agreeing to sell them your soul by accident. To hear that someone so narcissistic and draining could have the same MBTI type as me is mind-boggling and something I really need to learn more about. Thanks for the video.

this was a very interesting video. as an ENFP I definitely did identify with a lot of it including the negative elements. I am certainly selfish at times. and I do have a tendency to surround myself with people who are smarter than I am deliberately, because I am always wanting to gain more knowledge to better myself and to better the world around me. I find bettering myself to be a positive way I can make a contribution to the world. I can pay forward the good knowledge I retained and pass it on. I am also an Avid Reader who researches any subject I find interesting to death. but I don't agree or feel that I am necessarily the type of individual who others would ever have a need to read the fine print with. I am actually quite generous and would rather walk away from a friendship or relationship leaving them with everything and I can leave empty-handed feeling no malice toward them. I have no vindictive bone in my body! I am not a materialistic person also. The only thing I would want to protect is my heart from being hurt by someone taking advantage of my kindness and generosity. this is not the kind of safeguarding that requires any retaliation however. any personality type can become a Bad Apple. but that doesn't mean that one is predisposed to being worse than another kind. we all have different weaknesses and strengths. a bit of the commentary seems biased. still, it was fun to watch and I appreciate your contributions to the subject, as I am new to understanding my personality through the Myers-Briggs lens.

Will watch the video through, just to adress the comments: As a fellow ENFP I definitely agree manipulation IS something we might do, but we DONT do it out of malice. We aren‘t schemers, we‘re way too high energy, positive and interested in people and way too easily bored to even think of *plotting* something mean or manipulative. I‘d never do that. However! However! As I think people and their lives are super interesting i‘ve definitely been in this situation: Me: Do you think you‘ll stay working in this field? Other person: Starts to open up, but I can tell they are still a little in their shell Me: Furiously thinks how I can get them to open up in a different way, in a second has found another route of conversation that works better. Honesty time; I have done this (this sounds so bad lol) just because I found someone interesting, or their life, their outlook interesting while I definitely didnt really care about them. I guess some people could find that very mean and very selfish. But it‘s out of the pure intention of wanting to *understand* people and their motives, it‘s like building a constant puzzle piece of the world. If we don‘t get a piece every hour at least, we get bored. But honestly, think what you want, I am PROUD that I am always the first one to assure people to know their valuable and good and cool. Anyway, i just can‘t stand people being sad around me, or being unhappy with themselves.

I’ve always wondered if I was the only one who sees through the ENFPs illogical lies and their status driven attitude - if I was the bad guy in seeing a different perspective of them whereas many dismiss ENFPs as the happy go lucky people who have so much empathy for people. They can never do harm and are always cheerful. No, ENFPs are imperfect people just like everyone else who have extremely dark sides to them at times. Tired of ENFPs always justifying their selfish actions as wholesome without any facts to back it up. Now I have a better understanding of their thinking. Thank you for this video!

I figured out for certain I'm an INFJ, and that's why I've always felt so misunderstood by literally everyone I know. Literally everything you said in your INFJ video resonates deeply for me, so much so that it made me cry for feeling so understood for once.. but at first I thought for sure that I was an ENFP.. but then figured out that I'm the intuitive judging type, and a see it through type, and an introvert.. So my question is.. How can an INFJ think they are an ENFP? I kind of get it..but at the same time the shadow thing doesn't make sense to me >. < Also.. the reason I am obsessed with watching your videos might have something to do with being INFJ. I'm an ENFP and I have always wanted to pursue a career in Law because I've always felt that the most satisfying thing in the world is changing or directing another person's perception. The idea of that seems so unbelievably powerful and satisfying. Since I was 8 years old I knew that it has never been about defending the truth, it has always been about controlling it, whether that truth was mine or not. This video has finally explained to me a possible reason as to why I've always felt that way. This has also explained why although I'm very opinionated I don't bother about picking sides or reinforcing those beliefs in other people because at the end of the day everyone's perception is unique. Everything is subjective.

Hey, I remember really liking to read when I was a child and going through books quickly, but now in my adulthood I don’t read anymore. I think I stopped finding novelty in fiction and for anything intellectual, there’s always a really good podcast or video somewhere. Also later I discovered that I was chronically ill and my brain is spotted like a newborn Dalmatian, which is were the lack of attention for reading might come from. I am also extremely forgetful so even if I read something, I am likely to forget it. New information last in my head about 3 days before I have to refresh them. And I also don’t know how much of it is the illness and how much it’s just me. But I think even if you’re hundred percent healthy, you can still be forgetful. That could do with your childhood (weather you were encouraged to read, or like me, constantly being told to “snap back into the real world and socialise”. Weather you were praised for explaining your parents what you’ve read, or ridiculed for reading the wrong things), or with your attitude towards being stupid. For example I know that it’s not going to get better now (not because of the illness, I just reached a conclusion that reading won’t make me permanently smart. Only smart for about 3 days), so I just came to term with being stupid. Everyone has their place in society, there are smart people, and there are stupid people and it there weren’t stupid people smart people would never know they are smart. Hopefully my strength lies somewhere else. Maybe in making sales deals like Chase said :) .

ENFP here. I’ve struggled before, morally, with my manipulative ability. Because I'm so in tune with others, i dont need to think about it to make them sing a tune i like. Easily, i can spot a person who'll do what i want and get them to do it. It happens unconsciously because I've grown up doing so to keep myself safe. For a while, i identified as a villain (Insane by Gryph0n describes the energy well). I rationalized that doing what is good for me and not others is what a villain would do. I wouldnt stop thinking about others, i simply shifted from using that info for their benefit to using it for my benefit. THIS ISNT EVIL, ive now grown to understand. Hurting others purposely? Yes, bad. Though sometimes necessary. Moving the pieces strategically to befriend someone you like and manipulating them into letting you help them out? You've just created a nurturing environment with your insight. Take pride, not shame, in that. Sure you did it cuz YOU wanted the friendship, but its not bad to want and they benefited too I was a very anxious person for a LONG time. We gud now tho 🤪

Was hoping to watch a video that could help me better understand myself and others. Seems that you have let your experiences jade your view of this personality type. There are many videos of I have watched on ENFP and this one has been the least informative. You talked mainly about your perception as opposed to the unbiased strengths, weaknesses, and functions of them. Talking about ENFP's enthusiasm for experience, contemplative nature, need for fun, intuition to read between the lines, deep empathy for others that draws their value system, creativity, communication skills, and affection while also conveying the weaknesses of their intensity for being deep, lack of focus, seclusion from others, and emotional reactive tendencies would have been a lot better...there were many characteristics that you labeled as an ENFP that were off, keep in mind associating with crappy immoral people will always get you burned no matter the personality type.

@Gigi P: I'm an ENFP - i admit I am enthusiastic about things and can make anything sound good if I truly believe in it. BUT (and this is big but), the profession of sales does not feel genuine to most ENFPs. We are all about authenticity. Our Fi HATES it if we're not being genuine / true to ourselves. So, OK, there are some ENFPs who have been lucky enough to find something they truly believe in (with their own businesses that sell ideas of whatever) and they can passionately sell that. But I would argue that a VERY SMALL pecentage of ENFPs fall into that bracket. Selling for something we don't believe in (which is the majority of things, especially to ENFPs, let's be honest) would overwhelm us with anxiety. I speak from experience.

As an ENFP, as much as I hate to admit it, I think you're somewhat right when it comes to the manipulation. What a lot of commenters are getting stuck on is the notion of honesty, since ENFPs are pretty straight forward, honest, and open with our thoughts feelings - but I think it's possible to be honest/open while still being able to manipulate. The thing is: It's doesn't usually feel like we're lying to them, or deceiving them in any way - it's rather that we know what to say to guide them the way we want them to go. It's not usually a malicious kind of manipulation, either. Often these social manipulations I've caught myself in the midst of have good intentions: i.e. coaxing them to open up/share their feelings, get them to have more fun and interact in the social scene, getting them excited about stuff etc. Although, admittedly, I do sometimes use these skills with more selfish intentions, such as getting them to like me or agree with me. While I think we DO have the capability to manipulate bluntly and ruthlessly for our own gain, our general love of other people and open communication would make it very unpleasant. If an ENFP acts in this way, there's probably something quite wrong in the situation or in their life. You're also right when it comes to our selfishness - it can be easy to get wrapped up in my own head, in my own thoughts and plans for the future. I notice that in the roughest times of my life I can become overwhelmingly selfish and self-centered, whereas when things are going better for me, my priorities shift to others, and helping those around me. As I've gotten older, I've started making a conscious effort to stay selfless and charitable even in times of hardship, since it's instinct to shut myself off and become overly fixated on my own issues, to the extent where it can become a problem for others. We're happiest when we're selfless and charitable - going down the road of selfishness is our own type of self-destruction. We love being good, we love helping people, we just sometimes get caught up in our own darkness.

I have tirades where I take one subject and absorb and consume everything about it and move on to the next. Keeping long term knowledge especially. I brushed over Romeo and Juliet one day and 2 years later in class I was leading by answering every very question as though I read it the night before. My reputation is everything to me. Cultivating a brand as you spoke. Making sure what I offer is sought after. I’m monster competitive with people who try and offer what I do. I’ve needed a friend to keep talking to me in order to not try and destroy one of my best friends because of how uncomfortable he was making me. How foreign it was. The truth thing is spot on. I have never considered myself lying at all in my life. I just said what people wanted to hear or expected to hear or what lined up. I find myself convincing people to do this and that without any trouble. I’m not a psychopath. I don’t make a conscious effort to do this stuff it just oozes out naturally if I don’t have a reminder to not be self focused on my own growth. Speaking from experience, most of us ENFPs can be very naive because of our empathy and give too much of ourselves without setting boundaries, which almost always ends up backfiring and makes us wanna run away. Another thing I can say about us is we don't like making promises we can't keep, so when we make a promise, we'll state all terms and conditions so that you know exactly what to expect. You're right on some of the things you said, like us always leaving a door open in case we feel uncomfortable. The way out is almost always something we didn't mention in the terms and conditions of the promise. (notice how I've said "almost" always twice - there's always going to be exceptions or things we're unsure of. May I ask how did you come to these findings on ENFPs? Some of your thoughts on the type is very atypical to what I have read or what I have experienced with myself as an ENFP or my ENFP friends and acquaintances. Is your perception of ENFP based from your interaction with the ENFPs you met in your life? It’s so interesting how different ENFPs can be from one person to another.
@CSJoseph
@CSJoseph 6 лет назад
Wut Suthirachartkul I came to these findings as A result of combining the cognitive functions and expressing the data flow between each function with in the four sides of the mind of an ENFP. My type profiles do not come from other sources. However I do use Linda Berens to explain the interaction styles and Plato to explain the temperaments. As far as people being different yes some people are mature versus immature or more developed than others. Also people who take the test and up getting the wrong results which just leads to confusion and then no one in general is able to know how a type would typically behave.

I think it could be his high focus on "sales" in this video. If you replace that with "convincing" --which is basically what sales is-- you have an ENFP who could convince you of anything. This is something I really recognise (and love, and love to hate) about ENFPs. For instance, I know a lot of ENFPs who have moral problems with sales, marketing, consumerism, capitalism etc and therefore dislike sales but they can be very convincing / advocating for a cause they do feel morally aligned with. I also know a lot of ENFPs who don't have a moral problem with sales or certain aspects of capitalist society and they seem to be more inclined with this view of marketing and branding. It's the same concept of convincing others but sometimes it expresses itself differently.

It seems like a love/hate relationship. He hates em cuz he has a lot of experience w em. But the mass of experience indicates an attraction to them that led to the culminated experiences, I think.

I have a co worker who’s a ENFP... I as a INTJ gets as most frustrating as he starts so many things but can never finish things or put things back/bad organise and rather focus on ideas rather than the full execution... always other people has to finish things for them.

ok - after reading tons of comments about how this video is super wrong and comments about ENFP's. Some things seem to be right and actually I do not mind the walking brand part - I like the fact that I can understand what is going on in people's minds and yes, I have to admit that I do use it to my advantage in terms of networking. But only in terms of networking, in my personal relationships I would never! In that case - I use this strength to help my friends and family and loved ones. The charitable part is also super true. However, I do not like when people brand ENFP's are not smart and INTJ's as the geniuses, I get that organization is not our strong suit but I make up for it in terms of passion and sometimes even come on top of my INTJ colleagues. I am trying to get better at planning and sticking to it - but not having a schedule and accepting that it is not my style actually helps me be even more productive sometimes. Also, I am a researcher in AI - so I refuse to believe that certain personality types are smarter than others. I did debate at one point in my life if I should get an MBA because I find myself not using my social skills - but then I found work in AI such as bioinformatics, medical imaging, ethics in AI which also appeal to the charitable part in me. I leverage my social skills in terms of how I make myself look in front of my colleagues so yes, image is of huge importance to me. I think it also helps me in writing research proposals (selling stuff ;) ), getting cool projects (again selling myself ;) ), giving badass presentations! :) So even though your interpretation of ENFP's is quite negative I will take positives from it. :) Another thing you are wrong about - ENFP's do not want to experience new things. And do not say that I have mistyped myself - I have watched your other vids on typing and accoring to that I am an ENFP too. I love to travel and experience new things so much - that half my friends think I am crazy (in a good way ;) ) :D Also argue all you want that you are right - perhaps you are since I am not expert in psychology - there is a way to offer criticism, certain times it can be constructive and certain times not. I do not genuinely like your style of expressing your criticism.

You can literally grasp types on how for example INTP take criticism by Chase (laughing and blushing that ooops someone finally got them) vs ENFP (who by the way were not more under the loop as others) many of whom get subjectively offended :) Love the videos and comments as well, so clear.

I have spent the last six months believing that I am an INFP but bc of your videos, they have helped me realize that I think I’m an ENFP - still not for sure, but this hits closer to home even more for me than the INFP video did.

I wish I could be more like estp. Sometimes people need a rude awaking. You can only make people responsible if you can make them hold their word. Great ideal! I'm getting myself a lawyer. I follow your word why wouldn't you follow mine? Great video loved it just not the part about us manipulating the Truth.. we know truth. We're the most moral oriented!

you have had bad experiences with some unhealthy ENFPs (which i am sorry about it) but a lot of things that you said are not facts but personal thought based on your harsh experiences .you are biased.
@CSJoseph
@CSJoseph 6 лет назад
I wont deny bias.. ever. But at the same time, most people who criticize me for knowing unhealthy ENFPs instead of healthy ones are usually not ENFPs themselves due to mistypes and poor test taking. Is it possible that this happened to you? How would you describe a healthy ENFP?

Honestly I found everything to be true. But perhaps I’m used to being self-critical and self developing so I genuinely like hearing my bad side. He’s right- critical Fe whips me into shape so fast. And drives me. It’s almost like Fi wants Fe really but forgets on the rare occasion. I’ve also only now understood why I’m in the one who is usually obsessed with fine print and building contracts in business. I seem to care about that way more than most. This explanation goes beyond stereotypes and into the functions. So I see it. Also the majority of this was very positive in my eyes?!? World changers for a better future? Persuasive? Logical? Speed readers? Cares about others but needs self-care in order to do so? Profound grasp on “truth”? It’s good to be an ENFP :)
