I doubt it was team Eubank Jr, as there's, at least to me and based upon what i've seen, been nothing but respect shown to George Groves during the fight week lead up. I mean, I know Team Eubank can be.. more than occasional embellishers, but again, based upon what I was able to see on the various YT boxing channels, pre/post fight, it wasn't Pop's or his progeny. And like Sr and Paulie said, it very likely could've been a "backstage" request by Degale's team without his knowledge, although that really doesn't make much sense to me as a request of that sort, whether accepted by the higher powers or denied by them, is a pretty juicy pre-fight hype builder that would have the boxing media mowing grammas down to report on, whether confirmed or not, and we ALL can see what that would cause a fighter to look like, and even more so in this specific pairing because of the context, with both having lost to groves, and casual/non-casual fans, media, and boxing insiders are forced to believe that the most likely reason a request like that would be asked for would be some sort of weakness, most likely mentally, because whether real or not it'll say to the vast majority "I can't handle/we don't think James can handle the fact that George Groves is going to be in the same building with me and talking about me as a fight..." It's a horrible look and a ridiculously sized red flag Lastly, post fight, in a quick interview done as Groves was walking through what in america is usually called the tunnel to get to i imagine a locker room, you can see Sr behind him, and Groves turns to him and genuinely, and respectfully asks if Sr is ok with groves going back to congratulate Jr. Sr responds just as genuinely "Of course!" Sorry, this is a book, and by now i think, but am not sure, there's been a touch of confirmation, but haven't looked into it more since. So, If truly this happened, I believe the circumstantial evidence, at the very least, shows team Jr to almost certainly have not given any fucks to whether groves was calling the fight, selling chips, or on his couch watching on telly. If it happened, it came from Degale's side, i believe most likely with his knowledge. if so, tremendously dumb.....You know what? Maybe, maybe this coulda been something along the lines of Degale's people, and maybe him as well, knew that he didn't have anything left, was likely to be washed out, and didn't want Grove's to be given such a huge platform to say what he was likely to say. anyway, who knows.
