Here is the Carlsen-Tari game I mentioned in the commentary. Compare and contrast! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3hCR3KY2k-E.html

That weird scoring system is working well. The players are taking the classical games seriously. I would like more of this.

Definitely a great scoring system. I think this should become a new default way of scoring or at least something similar in this sense to encourage players to play on rather than agree to an early draw.

Thanks, another fine analysis. "More Karpov than Karpov" that's great coming from Karpov.

Carlsen has also been called "Turbo-charged Karpov" and "Karpov on steroids" by some, including Nigel Short. Kasparov called Calrsen "combination of Fischer and Karpov".

One could definitely have guessed that white was Karpov at his prime. When players play like this, they look pretty much unbeatable (at least with black).

Carlsen’s handling of the late middle game/endgame is often close to perfection - it’s what separates him from all the other greats of the game.

@powerplaychess In fact the (Mortimer) trap variation you gave is incomplete : the full variation is 5.Nxe5? c6! 6.Nc4!? (6.Ba4 or Bc4 Qa5+ as in the video) 6...Ng6! (and not 6...cxb5?? 7.Nd6#!) 7.Ba4 b5, this fork winning at last a piece!

That computer move f5 was amazing. Definitely difficult to spot the idea at any time much less in time trouble.

Typical Magnus. After a loss, he imporsonates the green Hulk, crushes everybody, and brings back order in the «Universe».

Very fast, but the quality is high as usual. I felt sorry for Rapport as he couldn't survive the Magnus grind, but it's no shame, he is still the leader and I very much hope that he wins eventually.

Strangely no notification for this vid. 😢 Hopefully i check manually for my Daniel King daily dosis 🤓👏 "Carlsen squeeze" is a nice way of putting it, one can feel the constriction Rapport's been through 😂

Carlsen is like a sanake. Insane how the opponent gets squeezed slowly. Rapport's bones must be still in pain.

Very nice game. A little sad it was decided by time trouble but Rapport shows he can mess with the best player.

It's interesting you say that the g3 Kg2 ideas for king safety are impressive to you. Carlsen said when he was commentating on the candidates that he was impressed by Giris h3 Kh2 with no appearant reason to play these moves. Such moves deminstrate total control.

I had not thought of the game against Tari, but remembered as soon as you said it. More Karpov than Karpov indeed, also more Capa than Capa, more Botvinik, more Botvinik, than Botvinik, more Petrosian , etc. Fine analysis and good memory. Thanks Daniel and keep up the good work.

carlsen also beat karjakin somehow in round 9, making one of the best double round robin comebacks with a 4/4 in the second set of the double round robin. Now Carlsen has overtook Rapport by 1.5 points and is currently leading!! He was at only 6 points after the first round robin set, and now he is at 18!! If carlsen wins the last round (round 10) today, this would be one of the greatest comebacks in chess history, with a 5/5 in the second round robin set. Carlsen is really a world champ for a reason
