I used to believe in sola scriptura, and preached it strongly. The reason why I have changed my view to prima scriptura today, is because I think sola scriptura has led to many divisions, with all of the new denominations we see today. Thoughts?
Well, has prima scriptura led to less divisions? Are there not just as many divisions there? If you throw away Sola Scriptura, you have no more solid base. The Bible is the living word of God… is sufficient, and the only supreme authority in all matters concerning the church. All truth necessary for salvation and the Christian life is taught explicitly or implicitly in Scripture. "At the heart of the issue is the question “where does absolute authority reside?” Is it in the church, Scripture, tradition, last night’s dream, or some combination of all those? To what degree must a person be taught outside of the revelation of Scripture in order to be saved and follow Christ? Prima scriptura says that, to some extent, we can rely on something other than the Bible. Sola scriptura says we live under the authority of Scripture alone."
