What an episode! We're going to be doing another Lingering Questions episode tomorrow - so drop all your questions and thoughts in a reply here and we might discuss on tomorrow's show!
What’s will be the fate of everyone who got gooed? Did Magneto’s EMP actually kill all the Prime Sentinels, or did it just deactivate them? Bastion mourning his mom made it seem like she died. If they died, it wouldn’t have mattered if Magneto reversed the world's electricity BEFORE Bastion was neutralized by Gold Team, unless it would cause them to be resurrected. Scott would’ve messed up for preemptively blasting Xavier
Where was Nightcrawler during the final battles of the episode? They mentioned earlier that he was going to transport all of the x-men to Muri island. Was he just exhausted?
Well from what bastion was seeing in the future or speaking upon when they showed the mutants that were slaves as we should say Polaris was the one who was fixing the Earth's magnetic field That's still kind of intrigues me right there
I would literally foam at the mouth if they brought in X-Man. He's been my favorite since the 90s when he pulled Xavier out he astral plane. And was a parallel to onslaughts plans along with Franklin .
@@MidnightRahYou just made me think of the breakneck pace they'll probably take in S2 to give us 1 or 2 episodes of Age of Apocalypse, to get us X-Man, so he can then be a mcguffin for Onslaught instead of (or with) Franklin Richards.
@@cedricwilcox7583 Hi fellow Summers bloodline fan :D I love Cable, love Stryfe, but my greatest love as a kid reading comics was Nate Grey! Onslaught tapping into Nate's mind and discovering the disaster that was Age of Apocalypse was deeply terrifying. I hope we get to see all the Summers kids!!!
Magneto's retort to charles in this episode reminded me of in dark Phoenix: "you're always sorry, Charles, and there's always a speech and nobody cares anymore"
Maybe Jean saying “I love you” and then Scott’s mind cutting to red was the moment that the Phoenix Force took control of Jean’s body and Jean acknowledging that she won’t be able to mentally take back control any time soon.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for acknowledging that exchange between Storm and Jean! That Mind your Weather, and Weather your Mind line! COLD! Best line of the whole episode, followed by "SHUTUP"!
Jean is Cable's Aunt, I don't know why everyone makes it complicated. Jean and Madelyne are twins the same way X-23 is Logan's daughter. From Cable's perspective, his dad hooked up with his aunt after his mom died.
Laura IS Logan's daughter. The comics dropped the clone thing in 2016, because the process of how she was made was basically IVF. She's Logan's daughter with Sarah Kinney through IVF, essentially. It's just that the DNA sample taken from him was not sperm, that's the only difference. But you're right in saying that Jean is Cable's aunt. The only thing that muddles it is that Jean literally has all of Madelyne's memories, including those of the pregnancy.
Laura is literally Logan's daughter. People kept trying to say she was a clone, but that's not how she was created. She isn't Logan with a different gender, she has a biological mother that half her DNA comes from. The scientist who helped create her is also her bio mom
First thing: X-Men 97 deserve an Emmy for: animation, music, voice talent, and the writing. So, so good Lingering Questions: Q1: Where do you think the Avengers are during all this? Q2: Did Cap recover his Shield? Q3: Could we see more fallout next episode? / Or we might see more characters enter this fight? Extra note: I am familiar with the comics, and know of Onslaught. But dang there are so many moving parts to this. Still processing episode 9
A1 - Avengers aren't privy to half of what's going on between the X-Men and Bastion so they're probably on the streets giving aid and keeping the peace as best they can. Later on with Onslaught you can expect him though. A2 - By now probably, lol, but he probably had to call in help. A3 - More fallout, likely, others joining, probably not, aside from maybe nearby Val Cooper who'd have a reason to be imprisoned nearby.
Storm knows Bastion is not a mutant. She was there when Charles told them when he went to see him. Then Forge and Beast talking about him being a technopath.
Oh yes! That's my prediction (i.e. hope lol) since the show was announced! My bet was that they'd do Fatal Attraction at the end of season 1, to pull off ONSLAUGHT during the entire season 2. Like you said, we could see Charles descend into despair, then Onslaught revealing himself at episode 5. The rest would be Onslaught smashing the Avengers until Franklin Richards creates the MCU and sends the Avengers inside it 😂
Magnetos line to Rouge in episode 5 was a bit toxic but Gatt dayum was it beautifully said. “Loving you makes broken men whole, so that even as you deny us, our heartache is not in vain.”
I know Wolverine shouldn't have been there to begin with, but who else was gonna actually make the call to kill magneto? Xavier was ready to puppet him temporarily, but unless he was gonna do it forever, it doesn't solve the problem
Who should have been in his place and who from gold team shouldn’t? Because gold team needed forge/ beast with there technical knowledge, storm and jean/cable/morph for firepower knowing how dangerous bastion is.
Morph should have switch with wolverine and night crawler. We need to put this collar on him. Night crawler. Sinister? Yea morph we sending you against magneto.
@@johnking7054 what about switching cable and wolverine? Cable is techno organic and shouldn't be able to be controlled by magneto plus he has telepathy of his own and he'll stay out of Sinisters mind control
Brandon talking about his disappointment in Prof X, I think was de mayo's plan all along. 97 is about Magneto being the one we all eventually agree with.
The weight of Charles mistake in choosing to leave Magneto in charge, and the attack in Genosha, plus Gambit’s death, Wolverines attack and eventually wiping out Magneto’s mind which WILL happen next episode WILL LEAD TO ONSLAUGHT FOR SURE!!!
Also I give Magnus his dues, he just got SNIKT’D sooo badly yet he still had the willpower to pull out the claws while surviving long enough to use his powers consciously on Logan to fuckkk him up 😅
Cable only has his mother's powers (telepathic/telekinetic), and he actually did use his TK powers once in the show (lifted his rifle). In the comics, he barely used them, since they are what keeps the techno-organic virus from completely taking over him and killing him. Once he had to hold a portal open using his TK, and his body changed to metal, and he died
I think they’re going to preview Onslaught next week. And the finale next week is gonna be a sad finale. I did laugh my ass off when magneto told Charles to shut the hell up. Because. Yep.
Bastian's assistant Daria is Mystique! I feel like Damayo has reused characters and story lines in a way that it makes sense. In the comics, that same character, Daria, frees Jubilee and I think we will see Daria free the mutants Bastian caught in this episode.
I really wanted a time travel fix bc Gambit is my favorite, but if he has to stay dead (or become Death), at least he went out like a G showing off his power and saving everyone else
Seeing Magneto rip the adamantium out of Wolverine’s body gives me hope for ANY X-men story, and I’ve said it since the idea was brought up, I would prefer an Avengers VS X-men arc through this animated series rather than an entire saga in the MCU as some of you want 😂
I love the throwback with Wolverine’s “…the bravest die first” line. Magneto said “The brave are always the first to die” in the final episode of the first X-Men season back in the 90s. Sooooo good!!!
Rogue will save the day she will absorb magneto power and restore the Earth Magnetic field thats the only logical thing , she said she will not see another mutant dying , Wolverine skeleton has been riped off thats pretty close
I was literally broken towards the end of this episode. There's so many way this season could end and I can't think of anything right now but I'm pumped.
Real question, what did we expect Prof X to really do? He's always talked Magnus down, no matter what. One of the things he loves about him is that he always sticks with his goals and morals. Coming back and having a plan at all with less than a day to figure something out, and having the team split up is tough.
More than the Avengers I would really really like it better if other X-Men characters showed up for the last battle like: Bishop, Mystique, Emma, Colossus, Magik, Betsy, Archangel, X-Factor, etc
I loved the episode but like...why on earth send the metal man to fight the magnet man? I know wolverine's adamantium is ripped out in the comics. It's one of the most iconic moments in the comics. My complaint is the way it's done here. When everyone is in the planning meeting on where to be most effective they were like "ok, we need two teams. One team takes care of bastion, the other magneto. Ok...wolverine...hmm, i know you're actually really effective against sentinels but instead let's put you up against basically the only person that completely negates anything you bring to the table." I totally wanted this part of the comics to make its way to the animated series but do it in such a way as to not make everyone seem like idiots for thinking this was a good idea.
It's all comics magneto held back that's why wolverine held back and said there fued is done . It's crazy i have this comic now Logan has bone for claws so glad writers are following the comics . wolverine had to or magneto was gonna kill professor x.
It happened nearly the same way in the comics. You Wolverine groupies act like wussies all the time about his beyond overrated ass is handled. Logan always makes dumb decisions in key conflicts. It wouldn't have mattered anyways, Magneto was going to go there.
@@murk4552 not a wolverine fan I'm a comic fan just glad the writer's doing right by comics now I see him saving professor x is why he stabbed mag besides comics.
I think that Apocalypse is gonna be the big bad for the beginning of season 2, and that story will revolve around saving Gambit whose been rezed and turned into Death, and that will dovetail into Onslaught.
I have always and still am in the camp that Magneto is right; Charles should shut up and listen more; Wolverine is annoying; Cyclops is not as bad as the Wolverine fandom wants him to be; and Gambit is the best X-Man. I was annoyed at Charles clutching his pearls over what Magneto did to Wolverine but did not protest when Eric/Magnus was being stabbed. What was the man supposed to do?
Alright... for the 50th time today... how is ANY OF THIS Charles' fault? People keep acting like he faked his death or chose to run off to bird space to be w/ his space chick (pun most definitely intended). He was DYING! Only Space Birb Science could save him so they did... why didn't he talk about his plans of what he was going to do when he died w/ Scott? CAUSE HE WAS SHOT! I'm sure he was planning on discussing it with him and then he and Scott could have had the conversation of what they thought was best... but that option was taken away from Charles. And aside from coming straight home, I don't think he could talk to any of them telepathically to let them know he's alright because that seems to be something only he and Illandra can do with one another. So where did Charles mess up? He put Magneto in charge who then was a good ass leader. Saved a bunch of humans. Allowed the UN to try him and even w/ seeing Storm lose her powers in front of him chose to give Charles' method a chance... And then Genosha happens. The purple robo future/past boi sends Cerberus Kaiju Sentinel to wipe out Genosha... so... if Cable can't change the events w/ his god damn TIME POWERS... what is Dr. ThinksReallyHard gonna do by being on planet? He's either sad in the mansion or a corpse on Genosha... so once again why is Charles catching so much hate?! Bastion fucked up his plan... Bastion captured Magneto and set him on the path he's on. Yet everyone now is on the Magneto train which is the same train as Bastion and Friends of Humanity just on the other tracks... kill em all for the actions of the few bad ones.
He literally took that choice away from them and treated everyone like he knew better, the worse of all being his "students". He put Magneto in a position he was not ready to handle... And though he could be good at it, the world was not ready to accept him in that position. Thus the trail of Magneto to begin with... Keep in mind it wasn't the X-Men they wanted but Magneto who is a known terrorist and murder (he does kill innocents as well) it's arrogance at its finest
@@MidnightRah Okay... but lets go over this again... you say he took choice away from them. He drew up his will with his student's best interest in mind. I'm sure in an ideal scenario he would have had time to talk about it with them (specifically Scott) but he was shot! It's not like he was just like "Ehh I'm bored of monkey space... lemme go to bird space!" Magneto was already a leader, and seemed perfectly capable and prepared to lead the X-Men... he did great as their leader. People both in the show and talking bout it act like they didn't watch the show and Magneto was out here abusing his power and shit. It wasn't until he saw two more major human attacks on mutants that Magneto said "Enough" and turned the lights out. Even though it's not the choices people liked, Charles made the right calls. Magneto was ready to reform, Scott and Jean should have been free to go live a happy life. But Bastion and Sinister destroyed those NOT Charles... Charles being around wouldn't have changed how anything played out. Nor would it have changed if Scott was the leader.
@@Grimbear13your second paragraph holds the key point in all of this if we took Xavier out of the equation for a second. Had Magneto not been with the X-Men when Bastion executed his plans, he would still be on this warpath. The "oh so bad" thing is bypassing Scott to give Scott a life. Everything else is academic at best and people piling on Charles in a revisionist way that he should have had rebuttals for. The guy took a chance on a friend and powerful rival in the one way that actually got him to try good for a change. I'm with you that Charles's actions aren't as bad as people would make it seem.
I think the answer to the question of “were they willing or not” is yes and no; they did willingly sign up for the program, but they didn’t necessarily know that they would be turned into nanovirus zombies.
another thought on seeing other Heroes in 97, a Captain Marvel and Rogue focused episode would be a good story and could file into a self-discovery arc after all her trauma this season
other reviewers are trying to say this wolverine is the one in Deadpool / wolverine I don’t see that since now 97’ wolverine will have his bone claws back so not the same wolverine at all also if onslaught is the big bad possibly of the series would it be too far fetched to think that the MCU is actually the Heroes Reborn universe if this is all supposed to connect at some point
I actually believe the gambit will come back. I believe that the psychic flash that Xavier saw when he was counseling that Shiar on why him and Lilandra should be married, gambit popped on screen, looking like his death persona from Apocalypse. Which leads me to speculate that since we’ve already seen Apocalypse briefly in some parts of the opening, I believe that apocalypse will come back in season two or three and gambit will also come back as Horseman death.
14:55 I did nottt think they would show his claws cleanly coming out of the other side of Magneto 😂 dam, That line was one out of respect and I rated Logan more for it, also the rest were 100% standing there thinking that exact thing 😂
Did anyone notice that Magneto didn't say anything to Storm after he saw her after that event where she has lost her powers he didn't say oh Storm I see you gotten your powers back or see you are a true Goddess in your new form.!
Loving this show but I was definitely underwhelmed by Xavier throughout the season. Well written villainy is all well and good but at the end of the day the good guys should win and we need compelling heroes to articulate why they’re the heroes
Can somebody explain to me why Xavier is such a wuss in this series? In comics Charles can mindcontrol anyone he wants in a 215 miles radius, not to mention him mass stunlocking people. Why he didn't mind control Rogue to give Magnus a nice warm choke and suck all his powers to give the gold team on ground more time? I don't get why they are nerfing his powers since the OG series of 92.
My plausible predictions: Jean will channel her dormant Phoenix Abilities and save Cable... Professor X will brain blast Magneto and that's when Onslaught will be created... Bastion will be shutdown by the government heroes (Avengers? ) And next season will be a slow build on Onslaught coming
Ohhh that’s what that was with Morph turning into Hulk 🤦🏽♂️ I was like what’s with the blue energy field and super fast fighting but now it makes sense 😅
I do wonder if they will unlock her second mutation. Jean ended up getting the ability to absorb Psionic energy and mimic the phoenix powers. I kind of hope that they do that instead
