The govee is super simple and looks and preforms great. however the DIY is much friendlier on my wallet.I love the light reflecting off of the dragon scales behind the monitor but seeing the individual pixels kills it for me. Love the videos, gives me a lot of inspiration!

Beautiful job as always! The DIY route can sometimes save a few bucks (but not always), but for me personally it's more about the challenge of seeing if I can make something that may emulate a retail device... or creating something brand new. I could easily buy a retail kit, slap it up on the wall in a few minutes and likely have a very workable system. But I probably wouldn't have learned anything new along the way nor had the enjoyment and satisfaction of making something work from individual components. I know you have done many DIY projects as well as installation and review of a number of retail projects so you know both sides of the fence. And DIY certainly isn't for everyone... some people just want to get to the end result and have the plug-and-play experience so I'm glad these retail products exist for those folks. But many of us take the DIY route for the personal satisfaction, enjoyment and knowledge of exactly how the system works. Thanks for all the great videos and inspiration for some my own DIY projects!

Personally my preference tends to be DIY, but the fact that this setup was just so simple and dramatic, and the fact that there’s not really an easy way to DIY the inline video-matching box (I know it’s technically feasible, but a PITA), this is definitely an option to consider. I’d love to get a box to match my computer monitor or TV but currently they break too many features (5K, CEC, etc.) for me to make the jump.

How many Govee devices can be connected to the sync box?

The govee lights are pretty cool, I like the helix pattern on the shelves and the sync box makes the dragon scales pop. That being said, in the daylight your diy solution is much more of a clean install on top of being custom. It was meticulously planned and it shows (unlike your cables 😁) , whereas the govee products look like every RU-vid setup video ever.

Dude I was expecting an actual comparison like time to realize the same setup, the price difference or what functions you can't replicate in either one instead we got a promotional goovee video

Im 1000% goveed out. Dont have the time and patience to do the custom. Honesty if you'd have done more products like the desk light and lights on the legs there would be no difference

Looks great. It'd be awesome in your videos if you highlighted if the devices can be controlled locally via something like Home Assistant without needing to use a separate app or cloud connection. It may be paranoid, but I don't like having a ton of cloud/internet dependent devices which is why I've stuck with custom wled solutions.

The curves definitely gives off a very different dimension to the entire setup. Soft contour and more natural flow!

i like Govee, i have a few kits from them in the living room all synced but i do find the dream view to be really distracting when watching films or anything on the tv in general so i just let the T1 kit do its thing then have the other lights on a static colour and dimmed down.

Have you found a way to replace Govee’s Christmas tree string light controller with WLED? I’ve been trying to get this to work for 3 days now and cannot figure out the secret sauce on this specific light string. The Govee app is way too limiting in what it can do but this is by far the nicest string light I’ve bought. It would be amazing if I could get it to work with WLED

How did you get to change colors of the pc fans with the goove gamming box? In the video it seems they goes with the screen content.

Just as an FYI I've had two govee desk LED strips fail at the spot where you rest your arm on the desk after about 2 months. Their customer support was great and sent me a replacement at first and a refund second, but that particular item might need to go back to the drawing board for them for now.

I think a combination of both. DIY can allow you to really customize for a space. But, yeah, not everyone is tha handy or has the tools needed. I like that you have been covering both. Have you considered getting a 3D printer to make your own covers? That could open up a new area for you.

DIY version looks more amazing, but Govee Plug and Works its perfect for simple projects, I love your work men really really cool videos.

I don't think it's the difficulty in reproducing what you're doing, I think it is more of an up front cost with custom. Tends to be a bit more of a deterrent, Love the content though!

Love the look of it. The light it gives off is beautiful. But in my opinion govee overprices oh so much. 92 euro's per 3m.. I'll pass and stick to affordable little diy projects.
