Based on how far away the explosion is, you wouldn’t see a missile, and that’s how probably all or at least most nukes are used in the fallout universe

Even though the Vault Tec one is the dumbest one possible. The company that made money by selling seats in Vaults and contracts with the US Government willingly chose to end the world and thus kill its ability to make money? And yeah, you wouldn't have seen a plane drop the bomb. The plane would've been a speck in the sky at 42,000 feet. As for a missile, by the time the Sole Survivor would've been able to see anything, it would've been a mere warhead falling from the sky with no smoke trail or anything to indicate its location.

Vault Tec makes their sales by selling vault positions yes, but the U.S and China were working on a peace agreement, which would have put Vault Tec out of buisness because the end of the world would no longer be a fear. Vault Tec had to make sure the peace agreements didn’t workout because their enitre company relies on “selling the end of the world.” Despite this fact, I don’t believe Vault Tec launched the first bomb, I believe they planned on it but for a later date. In the Fallout show they make it clear that Vault Tec planned to launch the first bomb, but they don’t actually confirm it, they only confirm that they planned on it

Tbh even tho in the show Vault-tech said that they should drop the bombs themselves, we don’t actually know that they did. Heck, in the opening scene, copper and his daughter were out when the bombs dropped. If his wife knew they were gonna drop it, would she have let them both out

@@clumsycaden5708 but in the end episode, Cooper is asking where his family is, indicating that he doesn't know what happened to them (duh) even tho they were all supposed to be in the vault. An even bigger question, how would neither of them know where their daughter is? I have a big feeling that they did drop them. I'm excited to see where this goes tho, cuz it contrasts with Fallout 3 Mothership Zeta and the Nuclear Launch Codes, and the fact that in Megaton, Myrna DOES say that the bomb (with the vault-tec logo) wasn't actually being dropped YET, but was being CARRIED by a Pilot when the bombs fell

Another missed detail is that he and his wife had divorced which is why he is working the party. It would make sense if the bombs dropped she sends out agents to get her daughter and only the daughter, hence why he never knows where they go.

Seems to me like the simplest answer might be that the Aliens, having failed to secure the launch codes, just dispatched a couple of their smaller craft to fly un-stealthed ballistic arcs over the poles. That should have been enough to put a spark to the powder keg.

Plus your character wouldn't be removed from such thoughts as blame. To them it wasn't that long ago life was good but then BOOM! I don't think anyone could blame them for opening fire on one of the guys that pushed the button that lead to the end of the world. For a wastelander the question of who fired first really doesn't matter as it was 200 years ago but for your character it was rather recent and also because of the bombs their spouse was murdered and their son stolen.

You can't transport hundreds if not thousands of top level Rob-Co, Vault Tec etc etc employees into vaults if you're taken by surprise.

In fallout 4 in far harbor you can find a terminal in the submarine base controlled by the children of atom. On it is a command that sends u.s. nuclear subs towards china in a preemptive strike. The commander of the base ignored the order and was quoted as being the cause of chinese retaliation since they weren't able to completely wipe them out.

Vault tec is shown to have **planned** to launch them to guarantee it, but there’s still some hints suggesting that it was possibly not the case Note how in the show itself, the nukes were dropping even though Barb’s daughter wasn’t with her, and the likes of Mr. House etc weren’t ready with all their measures yet It could still be China, the Enclave (suggested by the presence of the shadowy figures in the Vault tec meeting that Barb seemed to notice), or anything else Really smart move by the show to still keep it vague

At one point in fallout new Vegas you learn that over 70 nukes where launched at Las Vegas and the surrounding area but most where disabled by a emp around 9 were shot down the rest hit the area but none hit Vegas itself

@@Kanelle88 if you live in the USA, it's not, mutually assured destruction is the only thing that saved our butts during the cold war and having quick nuclear mizsles is important to ensuring we can react quickly if a country attacks us first(no but seriously mutually assured destruction isn't MAD if all our nukes are hit before they can even get off the ground). Also america has a no strike first policy so it literally has to have quick nukes if subject to a preemptive strike.

What if it was just because a computer glitch? In the mid-80's nuclear warfare could have started as Soviet computers detected 4 nukes launched by the US.However the man in charge said that no one would launch 4 nukes and that it must bea glitch....But if the same happened to either the US or China they wouldn't think about that since they were already fighting each other.

Yea dude i heard about that one. The soviet union onky needed to press a red button to react with their own bombs. But the soviet man in charge decided to ask before acting. And thus a nuclear war was prevented. Could be a self aware super computer created by vault tec. It malfunctioned because of glitches and errors and launched a nuclear bomb at china, wich reacted with bombs of their own.

@@Little-She-Devil This theory can be considered because on Automatron we learned that robobrains are impressed by their capability of storage and processing data, but Ada also tells us that those robots have serious problems on data processing, we see one Robobrain tells us that he decided to kill all human to save them. Maybe US government has install a tons of brains used on Robobrain as processing and storage hardware but they are glitched and give false alerts. And also I'm wonder the target of 5 ICBMs the submarine on FO4, I can guess 1 is Glowing Sea, 1 on the Vault 87 on FO3, 1 warhead may strike to Pentagon but it is broken and land to the placed called Megaton, but where is another 2?

I genuine think it was Vault tec because even in fallout three remember that city with the nuke in the middle, there’s a vault Tech logo and China could’ve had relationships with Vault tec and vault tec antagonize them to launch nukes at America and I think vault tec wanted the nukes to come so they can test the vaults and show how good they can be used for the public even in fallout 76. There’s a nuke there that hasn’t been activated. And it’s just in the ground. With the vault tec logo on it.

@@1hyugaclan1 i mean, Todd said it is canon, but cmon... the show messes a lot of the lore established by fallout 1, 2 and NV Why would we take it as canon? in fact most true fans will pretend the show never existed! Tim Cain (original creator of Fallout) revealed in a recent interview, to end the decades-old discussion, that China was responsible for the first bomb. I prefer the original creator's canon. and it makes more sense given the reasons presented in this video.

When you push the launch command in the terminal you can clearly the sound of a rocket launch. The Minuteman missile uses solid rockets for propulsion. Solids can't easily be stopped once they are lit. Perhaps the missile did launch but without proper targeting data it landed in the ocean or somewhere else and some poor settlement in Canada got blown away.

It’ll be crazy if all of this was due to a satellite error. Like what happened in 1982 I believe, when Soviets satellites “Detected” a ICBM being launched from the US. But in reality, light from the sun reflected off a cloud at the right angle, for it to be thought as a ICBM.

It wasn’t covered here but in NV the nuke centered in megaton has a vault-tec logo painted on the side. Additionally, in vault 88 we find uranium deposits which would explain their ability to source uranium

That's the whole point, lol. Micro electronics was never invented apart from the pip-boy, which was the smallest human technology could get. That's why the machines were big, bulky and Extremely inefficient as the nuclear era combined with fossil fuels brought in so much energy that humanity didn't care to be more efficient which led to the exhaustion of the resources followed by the resource wars, the Sino-American war and finally the Great War. By the time humanity actually decided to something real about the energy crisis (developing fusion tech), it was already too late.

Initially, it was the Chinese in the canon beginnings of the Fallout Universe. But personally, I think the Vault-Tec route is much more fitting given the show’s clear implication that they were the one to do so. Human greed compels us to do such things. Look at the scavengers that want to tear apart the Constitution for loot. Greed is what drives people to do the most horrendous things. Especially during War. After all, it’s the slogan. It never changes for anyone.
